**★★★★★ — Carla D Design, Aug. 2020**

> Toula has an extensive repertoire when it comes to making the most of a space. Her ability to listen to the needs and wants marries well with outcomes of beautifying spaces. However small or large, Toula has continually provided me with ideas for an elegant environment in my home. I am forever grateful for her expertise and those of her contractors. I highly recommend her services.

**Comment from Acanthus Interiors:**

> Thank you, Carla. Collaborating with you on projects is exciting. You are always receptive to my ideas and not afraid to execute them. I look forward to your next project!

**★★★★★ — HU-166419549, Aug. 2019**

> We are beginning an update on our home and one of the first things is to remove the dated wall paper and paint. Toula’s sage advice and detail to colour is so impressive. We are grateful to have her guidance and ideas while we go through this transition. More to come later! I would not hesitate to recommend Toula as she is a very reliable, dedicated designer with exquisite taste! Thank you ,Toula!.

**Comment from Acanthus Interiors:**

> It is so kind of you to take the time to review my work. I am very pleased to offer direction and help you achieve your renovation goals.

**★★★★★ — C Bonnis, Dec. 2018**

> We had hired Acanthus Interiors in the past to help source area rugs and furniture, as well as choose paint colours, but this was our first time working with the company on an extensive renovation.
>
> Toula’s computer drawings helped us picture what our closet-to-bathroom transformation would look like.
>
> Creating storage for the room was vital but we could not spare much of the 6’x7’ space so Toula suggested a recessed cabinet just below the sloping roof line. Between that cabinet, the recessed medicine chest, and the vanity, everything has a dedicated place despite the small footprint. And thanks to all the wall-mounted fixtures, the room looks light and airy. Friends can’t believe our beautiful bathroom used to be a closet!
>
> There were so many decisions to be made but the process was less confusing with Toula guiding the way.
> Sometimes you just have to take a leap of faith and we are glad we placed our trust in Acanthus Interiors!

**Comment from Acanthus Interiors:**

> Thank you for taking that leap of faith and for the kind words above.
> What a transformation. I am so happy that you are pleased with the results!

**★★★★★ — Martin Knowles Photo/Media, Nov. 2018**

> We photographed one of Toula's projects recently, and as fellow supporters of heritage adaptation projects, we were impressed with the level of care, attention to detail, and design cleverness she brought to transforming an awkward attic space in a heritage home into a clean, commodious, and well-appointed bathroom space. Toula herself was an absolute delight to work with before, during, and after the shoot. We're looking forward to working together again on a future project!

**Comment from Acanthus Interiors:**

> I am touched by your comments, Martin.
> Shooting with you was by far the best experience I have ever had with a photographer.
> And you and your team made the entire process a joy from start to finish!
> Many thanks,
> Toula

**★★★★★ — CHRISTINA EWERT, Dec. 2017**

> Between the demands of my work and family life there is not much time left over for home improvement. I am grateful to know someone efficient and reliable like Toula who understands my taste and lifestyle.
> I have called upon her sourcing skills on multiple occasions for such items as sconces, toss cushions, and other home décor accessories.
> When I ask her opinion I always receive a truthful reply that is not motivated by personal gain. Her extensive knowledge guides clients so that they avoid making costly mistakes.
> I wholeheartedly recommend this hard-working interior design specialist.
> Christina Ewert

**Comment from Acanthus Interiors:**

> I needed a storage solution for my small apartment but was uncertain as to the size required. Toula and I spent a few days decluttering my living room and then she began the search for a suitable storage unit. One of my concerns was that the new cabinet complement my existing media unit. Toula was able to find something within my budget that works beautifully with the older unit and had it installed up off the floor so that I can easily access items on the lowest shelf. She also rearranged the furniture layout. People have exclaimed how large my apartment now looks!
>
> Toula also helped me select a sofa bed for my living room. She knows how important colour is to me and chose toss cushions that reference my artwork and moved around existing accessories for a fresh new look.
>
> I also appreciated her taking the time to label my baskets and boxes inside the cabinets so that I can locate things at a glance. It is so much easier to keep my apartment organized now. Such a small detail but it saves time and makes me more efficient. At last someone came along who was able to organize me and months later I'm still organized!
> I am so pleased with the outcome. Thank you, Toula.

**★★★★★ — Rita Stalder, June 2016**

> Our experience with Toula Favreau has been wonderful. We needed to update our kitchen without replacing the cupboards. Toula captured the essence of our home and personal taste perfectly and was able to create a new, modern and functional environment that integrated seamlessly with the other rooms in the house.
>
> She helped us to find the floor tiles, countertop, backsplash, and wall colour, and all of these in the 'right' shade of white to match the existing cupboards. Anyone who has tried to match whites knows how difficult this task can be. Throughout the process, Toula demonstrated an impressive level of expertise and professionalism. She is calm, poised and focused. Her clarity on what the space requires for the best outcome is educational as well as inspirational and Toula demonstrates exemplary attention to detail. The end result is not merely a design statement, but a reflection of who we are.
>
> Her secret: she always surpasses our expectations. We will absolutely turn to Toula Favreau again for future projects.

**★★★★★ — Maria B, June 2016**

> In 2012, I asked Acanthus Interiors to help me with an extensive renovation of a newly purchased, 1200-square foot condo. Some areas of the apartment had hardwood flooring while other parts had dated tile. Although the existing hardwood had been installed a decade earlier, Toula managed to track down the manufacturer and order more of the same product to create seamless flooring throughout the apartment. Although the entire condo was modified to some degree, the kitchen and two bathrooms underwent complete transformations. The tiny shower stall in one of the bathrooms was enlarged by stealing closet space. Toula made up for the lost storage, however, by designing a stunning and spacious vanity unit. She also addressed electrical deficiencies; the apartment had very little artificial light so hardwired sconces were added wherever necessary. On the decorative side, Toula selected beautiful paint colours, furniture, rugs, art, and accessories. The living room, dining room, and den also required new window coverings. It was a pleasure working with Toula, her contractor and their team of experienced tradespeople. She respected my opinions and the budget set out for her. She is much more than a decorator, capable of taking on structural challenges. I am extremely happy with the way the renovation turned out and continue to call on her services whenever the need arises. MARIA B.

**Comment from Acanthus Interiors:**

> Maria,
> I am so very glad that you are enjoying your new condo and the improvements we made to it.
> Thank you for your kind words of endorsement,
> Toula

## Community Q&A

**Q: Window treatments that wont hide the woodwork** *(in Windows)*

I am in the process of re-doing the trim in our old folk Victorian. I love the trim we decided on. My current window treatments hide the woodwork. Any ideas on how to show it off but still have privacy? I was debating cellular shades with a scarf for the long windows and normal drapes for the bow window?. But I don't want to look cheap. Dont mind the bow window the replacement was just installed so it's not finished yet (it will be dark to match the long 1). I would prefer a more modern look.

A: My advice would be roman shades in a gorgeous fabric that compliments your wood trim. You might also want to consider a custom cushion to create a cozy window seat for the bow window.
Best of luck!

**Q: Which color looks best?** *(in Home Decorating)*

I'm replacing carpeting in the bedrooms and living/dining area.
The rest of the house will be tiled with the tile shown in the photo and the new flooring will be adjacent to the existing tile.

Which color best complements the existing tile?

A: Was this selection part of your 1st or 2nd batch? It's very nice!

**Q: Should I add crown molding to my new kitchen?** *(in Design Dilemma)*

I am torn and need advice. We completely redo our kitchen. I have white cabinets with beautiful details and stainless steel appliances. The original design is the cabinets with about 5-6 inch crown molding to the ceiling. But due to a beam we have to change design and only use a small 2 inch molding to finish the cabinets. In my opinion the small molding doesn't match the cabinets style. It's missing something.

I am thinking to add crown moldings around the ceiling so the kitchen may feel more "complete". But the ceiling has four "curved corners" so I have to order the corner moldings in a plastic/rubber like material (soft) and the rest of them are wood. Contractor said it won't look good because they will paint the crown molding after finishing installation, and difference will show on the look of paints on two different kind of material. It's going to be very noticeable and hard to maintain. He said the ceiling without crown molding looks clean and more open, but if I add the crown molding it will look busy and my kitchen will feel smaller. I don't know if he is just being lazy not wanting to do the work, or giving me the honest and constructive suggestion....

I attach pictures below: original design, actual kitchen as of now, rendering with ceiling crown molding.

My questions:

1\. Does my kitchen looks good as of now? Is adding crown molding too much and make my kitchen look smaller?

2\. Do you agree crown molding on the ceiling will make my cabinets look more "complete"?

3\. Dose the paint really look different on rubber material v.s. Wood material?

Thank you so much!

A: Hello bruin\_girl,
I agree with your contractor that the ceiling looks very clean and attractive as it is. In my professional opinion, the cabinet doors already have many beautiful details so I would avoid adding more to the ceiling.
Also, in the renderings of your ceiling there is crown moulding but no recessed lights. Your actual ceiling does not look plain because it has lights.
I wish you many years of enjoyment in your beautiful kitchen!
Toula Favreau Acanthus Interiors Vancouver, Canada

**Q: What do you think of this floor?** *(in Design Dilemma)*

Can you tell what material this is made of?

A: It looks beautiful in the photo. I don't think it is real wood though.

**Q: Same rug in 2 rooms?!** *(in Design Dilemma)*

Hi,
I have adjoining living and dining areas. I have a rug for the living room, but having a hard time finding one for dining room that won't fight the LR one. The edge of one will be about 6' from the edge of the other, do they are close. The rug I have now would work in either area, is it a mistake to just buy a second rug like the one I have? Photo shows LR/DR area. Thank you!!

Warm regards,
Frustrated rug shopper

A: I agree with Decoenthusiast. A second rug is not absolutely necessary because the living area is already defined and separated from the dining area by the existing rug. However, if you have your heart set on a second rug, reverse the colors.
