After pursuing a degree in Interior Design, Joyce started Dream Homes in 1999.  Since then her firm has helped hundreds and hundreds of homeowners make their dreams come true.

**Q: shower tile** *(in Photo Questions)*

Love how this shower tile looks with Cambria Brittanica countertop.  Can you please tell me the details of this tile?

A: Sorry for the delayed response! The tile is a glass herringbone by a company called Sonoma Tilemakers.  The line is called Astonia, and this is the Flute Herringbone in Gin Fizz Gloss

**Q: DIY Two Tiered Island to One Tier** *(in Design Dilemma)*

I want to take down my two tiered island to just one level. I don't have electrical in the island (it's on the far wall) or a sink or anything in the island, it's just higher on the one side. Can I do this on my own? I assume I can just remove the existing granite - the two slabs and the return - and put a full quartz slab over the whole thing? I have seen some steel support brackets that look like they would hold it ? Ive done a lot of DIY in the house, assume I can do this but curious if I am missing anything... THANK YOU

A: Well, let's break it down and see what makes the most sense for you.
In order to have a single height, 36" countertop, you need to remove anything taller than 34.5" (which is the height of all materials below the countertop material). So to make it easier, if you run a piece of blue tape horizontally all the way around the peninsula at 34.5" high, you can see that anything ABOVE that line has to be removed.  So think about it, how do you remove it? Do you cut it with a saw? What does that look like?  The easiest thing is to REMOVE it....both the back veneer and the bookcase.  So now what does THAT look like? 
That which has been removed will expose either raw cabinet material or framing. Either way you need to cover that up with something that is lower, i.e. 34.5" high.  My suggestion is to cover it a wood veneer that you will need to purchase (which will not match the cabinets, but can come close) or build a wall that you can drywall and paint.  Then you drop the countertop onto that.
Manufacturered quartz can be unsupported up to 12", in this case because you have an archor wall at the end that helps support it.

**Q: Stove Backsplash** *(in Photo Questions)*

Hello,  where  is the arabesque tile used in the backsplash above the stove from?

A: Hello! It was a custom blend by a company called Trillium. They created the horizontal and vertical halves for us to complete the sides of that accent as well. Great company, small batch production.  Contact me if you'd like to get your hands on some!

**Q: I hate blue** *(in Design Dilemma)*

How can I make this look colorful and fun? I hate blue. I don't have a budget to re side it. The worst part is those two pieces of siding that are darker than the rest. I also don't like the tan bricks.

A: How about Benjamin Moore Montgomery White (which is really more of a pale yellow) painted over the siding, and since you said "fun" might I suggest a deep red or green front door?  (i.e. BM 2174-10 toasted chestnut or HC-135 lafayette green)

**Q: Furniture placement desperation** *(in Design Dilemma)*

My bedroom furniture does not fit in my new bedroom well.  We tried the bed on the long wall with the chiffrobe facing and as you can see in the top right picture, there isn't enough room (it looks cramped and awful.)  I tried putting the bed up against the window (which I thought was better) but my husband said it looked terrible.  I don't know what to do.  PLEASE HELP!!!  The dimensions of the bed are 90"x66," the chiffrobe 62"x19", and the nightstands are 33"x19" each.  I have also included a picture of the plan of the new bedroom.  Any help is GREATLY appreciated.  Thanks.

A: How about the Chifirobe opposite the door coming in, facing the door. You say it's 19" deep so should fit on that short wall next to the closet.
