FADE IN: INT. Home designed by MODERN NEST / DISSOLVE TO: Happy Client
MICHAEL RASKY, formed Modern Nest in 2008 with a mission to create distinctive designs that tell your story. Focused on the client and their budget to create a true Hollywood ending. FADE TO BLACK.

Having toured around the United States a few years as a stand-up comic, Michael Rasky decided it was time to plant some roots. Intrigued by the eclectic architecture of Los Angeles, he naturally segued into a career in real estate. While matching clients with their potential dream homes, Michael discovered a mid-century post-and-beam home that needed a lot of work but had great potential. While working on the renovations, Michael fell in love with design. Building from that, he enrolled in the UCLA Interior Architecture program to further hone his design skills. The synergy between his real estate and design businesses has been an invaluable asset for his client base. Michael is able to identify unpolished gems and provide a guiding hand in transforming these houses into a dream homes. Email Michael to schedule a complimentary consultation.

> Michael is brilliant. He cast his experienced eye over my mixed-message (modern, rustic, Asian) one-bedroom ADU and brought it all together. He used beautiful paints and wall paper, created a rich feature wall and installed a few strategically selected pieces, including a new sofa and ottoman, side chair, nesting end tables, cowhide rug, and a badly needed bookcase in the living area. For the bedroom, he selected a duvet that perfectly matched the painting over my bed and installed a new, natural rug to tie the room together. He extended the kitchen area with a 6-foot butcher block island and purchased smoked glass pendant lights to showcase it. Michael pays attention to small details, like designing a perforated stainless steel panel to finish the butcher block table and naturalist English wallpaper in my modern bath. He didn't move my art but showed me how much better it looked hung at eye level. Michael listened respectfully and, when needed, explained why his idea might work better than mine. Working with Michael was a wonderful experience, and I am so pleased with my new home. I recommend him highly!

> Michael was great from beginning to end and beyond. He was able to translate our vision to details in the options he provided for tiles, appliances, fabric and colors for our dining room, kitchen + half bath remodel. We wanted a modern and clean feel that would endure fast trends, and we were so pleased with what he delivered, including his choice of showcase items, like our overhead lighting which makes you say "wow" when you walk in. I would not hesitate to hire Modern Nest again for future work!

> Michael Rasky is wonderful to work with. He made a design for us to add 500 square feet to our home. He worked with us from the project's conception, helping us think through the various different options for what kind of space we needed to add. We ended up expanding our living and dining room and adding a bedroom. He thought through all the details and picked fixtures, paint, placement of doors and windows, the fence and gate outside and new entryway to the home. He also helped us pick the built in cabinets in the dining room (for a very low price and they are beautiful--we always get compliments on them). He helped us pick a contractor and helped manage the project, all the way down to getting our permit from the city. He is is reliable, creative, and fun to work with. I would highly recommend him.

> My husband and I do not really argue...unless we are remodeling our home! We have never used a designer before but came across Modern Nest thanks to Houzz and couldn't be more pleased. We totally gutted our 1943 Westchester, CA bathroom which was a big project. Michael was able to help us stay in our budget and provide us several options to come up with a design we love. Now, the smallest room in the house makes us want to redesign our entire house we are so in love with it! 5 stars all around

> His men replaced 2nd story deck and removed sliding door, repaired wall and installed single door. Happy with work done.

> Michael at Modern Nest was great to work with. He re-designed my out dated kitchen, breakfast nook & master bathroom. I am very happy with the results. He selected things I liked, as well as presenting ideas I didn't know I would like. He managed the whole process. His construction, vendors and retails contacts we used were great! I would highly recommend him. He has better photos of the projects than I do...but I get to enjoy the real thing.

> Michael provided me with great ideas within my budget and followed thru the project managing the contractor's work and choosing the finest quality products with the utmost professional and knowledgeable working skills. It looks great!! And was finished properly on schedule

> Michael was easy to work with and followed through with all plans, always on time, detail oriented and came up with a great design for my house.

> Michael has impeccable design taste even on a budget. He has completed both a home bathroom and a large commercial space for me always within time and always within my vision of what I wanted it to look like. He cares deeply for his work, big and small. And I would highly recommend his services.

**★★★★★ — jennyjennybra, Aug. 2015**

> Michael has done 2 projects for us. The most recent was a very low- budget conversion of a basement space into a kids recreation area. Michael had many creative ideas to make the space fun and stay on budget. The previous project was a remodel of 2 bathrooms and additional of a half bath. Michael came to our house and immediately "got" our taste. In our first meeting, we nailed down the bathroom wall and floor tile and are thrilled with the choice years later. He came up with the idea for how to carve out an extra half bath and chose extraordinary wall paper that earns compliments from anyone visiting. I have checked the wallpaper company for other potential projects and there is nothing as good as what Michael found. He is a master at sourcing the right material for the right price. He also took on all the legwork of ordering and receiving materials, as well as dealing with the contractor. He found a draftsman to draw up plans according to our sketches. He even came downtown with me to pull our permit!

**★★★★★ — meredithwick, July 2015**

> Michael has an amazing design sense, is very creative and can do a mix of highbrow and low that is seamless. He has a great passion for design and is extremely knowledgable. He kept our project moving along and always provided us with several choices...but not too many, as to be overwhelming. With a background in real estate and design, Michael really knows houses and how to make the most out of them. Plus, he is hilarious...you will have a great time working with Michael!

> Michael with Modern Nest designed and managed a remodel of my bedrooms and one of the baths. He listened to my needs and provided several options that matched my requirements. The selected styles matched the rest of my condo well and my space feels warm and comfortable. Michael also engaged people who did a great job delivering his vision, and they were joy to work with. I would definitely recommend Modern Nest and Michael for future work.

  - Description: This was new build home in Silver Lake. The exterior of home was grey concrete and plaster so the goal was to add a human touch to the project as well as pops of color. All the finishes give the spaces a more personal touch.
- [More-A- Lago](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/more-a-lago-pj-vj~6326721)
  - Location: Long Beach, CA
  - Photos: 10
  - Description: I shared a kindred spirit with my clients. They had bought a Spanish house but their sensibility was more Mid-Century.. They loved bold colors and quirky accents. I designed a space that would feel in place with the architecture and at the same time spirited enough to house their individualist style.
- [Keep an Open Concept](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/keep-an-open-concept-pj-vj~6327524)
  - Location: Los Angeles, CA
  - Photos: 7
  - Description: We opened up this house - took down the walls separating the kitchen from the dining room and the family room. What was once a warren of rooms became the epitome of California living. The brick fireplace was dingy and gave it a face lift with split stone tile. The kitchen is neutral and inviting.
- [Hippie Modern](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/hippie-modern-pj-vj~2666263)
  - Location: Los Angeles, CA
  - Photos: 11
  - Description: The tile is the star of this design story. With a nod to the 70's, the back splash tile is a true orange and burnt red with these funny three dimensional decorative tiles with ridges. They jut out about a half an inch, so you can't display much on them and when we found these army men striking yoga poses, we knew they had a home in this exuberant kitchen. The cabinetry is walnut and the floor tile is hatch marks that creates an area rug of sorts in tile. The kitchen opens to the dining room wher…
- [Color Theory](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/color-theory-pj-vj~6898511)
  - Location: Not specified
  - Photos: 20
  - Description: To say this client was difficult is an understatement. I can say that because I WAS the client from hell. I bought this house 14 years ago and it was a big fixer. I sprinkled my fairy dust over the place and about 2 years ago the luster was dimming and the spaces needed to be refreshed and this is the result. I wanted to have the space that pays homage to its Mid-Century roots as well as using contemporary pieces so it does not feel like a movie set. My home is now ready for her close-up.
- [East Coast meets West Hollywood](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/east-coast-meets-west-hollywood-pj-vj~2666210)
  - Location: West Hollywood, CA

  - Description: A sweet cottage in prime West Hollywood gets in touch with it's eastern roots with a contemporary twist.
- [Silver Lake Sanctuary](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/silver-lake-sanctuary-pj-vj~1149362)
  - Location: Los Angeles, CA
  - Photos: 20
  - Description: Take a Spanish House and infuse it with modern touches and you have a Silver Lake Sanctuary. Modern doesn't have to be cold and hard. I blurred the lines to create a comfortable contemporary space.
- [Mid-Century Pool Home](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/mid-century-pool-home-pj-vj~1156364)
  - Location: Los Angeles, CA
  - Photos: 7
  - Description: Modern Nest reinvigorated this tired Mid-Century Home at the top of Mulholland Drive. Our goal was to infuse warmth into this modern gem and not make it feel cold and imposing.
- [Clean Lined Commodes](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/clean-lined-commodes-pj-vj~2666207)
  - Location: Los Angeles, CA
  - Photos: 5
  - Description: These are a pair of bathrooms I did for a client in Valley Glen. The home was a ranch tract home from the 50's, The stried marble is reminiscent of tile found on counters of tract homes. I took it off the counters and lined the walls with it. Stripes play a more subtle part in the other bathroom. I used warm neutral striped tile and changed up the direction of the stripes to add interest.
- [Modern Classic](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/modern-classic-pj-vj~2666296)
  - Location: Los Angeles, CA
  - Photos: 8
  - Description: This home is a traditional 30's home in Beachwood Canyon. I wanted to root the renovation with a nod to the past but it still feels modern and today.
- [Buttoned Up Bathroom](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/buttoned-up-bathroom-pj-vj~2666284)
  - Location: Los Angeles, CA
  - Photos: 3
  - Description: My client is in love with navy blue. We infused her favorite hue in the navy painted bead board and the in the glass tile on the shower wall. Oversized hexagons on the floor and a classic vanity and stand alone tub.
- [Classic Conservatory](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/classic-conservatory-pj-vj~2666042)
  - Location: Los Angeles, CA
  - Photos: 3
  - Description: A client's love for his grand piano informed this open living room dining room in the hills of Silver Lake. The stained concrete fireplace and mixing of deep navies, black and white give this room the feel of a gentleman's club. A little moody and a little sexy.
- [His and Hers Baths](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/his-and-hers-baths-pj-vj~1177928)
  - Location: Los Angeles, CA
  - Photos: 4
  - Description: Opposites attract and both clients wanted their own bathroom. She wanted toile wallpaper and soft lines and he wanted a spa like experience. Now they have their own sanctuary to recharge and be restored.
- [Santa Monica Stunner](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/santa-monica-stunner-pj-vj~1178478)
  - Location: Santa Monica, CA
  - Photos: 5
  - Description: Small spaces can have big impact. I designed this 2 bedroom condo in the heart of Santa Monica with warm tones and a pop of color.
- [Spanish Addition](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/spanish-addition-pj-vj~1154178)
  - Location: Not specified
  - Photos: 10
  - Description: This was a sweet two bedroom, one bath Spanish Bungalow that desperately needed a master suite. Additions can look tacked on and not integral to the design of the home. Modern Nest was not only able to add square footage but add curb appeal as well. The results are in this photo gallery.
- [The New Neutral](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/the-new-neutral-pj-vj~2872754)
  - Location: Los Angeles, CA
  - Photos: 4
  - Description: Neutral does not have to be boring and the same goes for beige. This kitchen remodel is a testament to that. All the materials are in the same color family but each element has lots of texture - from the grain of the cabinets, to the variation in color of the tile as well as the veining in the quartz counter tops. Then add a dash of antique brass and few pops of burnt red and you have room that is mean and serene.
- [Love Live Work](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/love-live-work-pj-vj~1154176)
  - Location: Not specified
  - Photos: 6
  - Description: I infused a residential feel to this office space in Santa Monica. The budget was not huge however, we were able to make an impact with bold pops of color. The Orange stripe brings a human scale to this double height ceiling. Laure Joliet Photography
