> Scott with Roth Architects is a true professional and absolutely amazing at what he does. He turned our space into what we wanted and more! Particularly, in a space we thought we could only fit one bathroom, he walked us through the idea of adding a master bathroom and we don't regret it. Scott is not only knowledgeable at his craft as an architect, but also in many aspects of the process of the home renovation, which allowed us to have another set of eyes and viewpoint, outside of just our contractor, which was nice to have. I highly recommend Roth Architects!

**Comment from Roth Architects, Inc.:**

> Thank you for the kind review - it was a joy working with you and Kim!

**★★★★★ — Megan Caravello, Nov. 2025**

> We thought we were certain of the design of our new kitchen until Scott took it upon himself to propose a secondary design that 'started from scratch'. It was way better and gave us a walk in pantry! - not something you typically find in a Chicago bungalow.
>
> He then laid out all the electrical, lighting, and plumbing, submitted permits, and followed up on permits.
>
> We couldn't be happier with the design of our new kitchen!

**Comment from Roth Architects, Inc.:**

> It was a pleasure working with you and Dave - so glad you love your new spaces!

**★★★★★ — HU-178618289, June 2025**

> Scott understood the concept of our home remodeling effort, got a permit approved in record time, helped with multiple finish and fixture selections to tie it all together and was efficient and responsive throughout the entire process. The house looks great. I highly recommend him without any qualification.

**★★★★★ — HU-177434243, July 2024**

> I highly recommend Roth Architects! Scott is knowledgeable, professional, innovative, and easy to work with. He shared multiple potential ideas and patiently worked with me to identify a final plan that would improve the functionality of the space while maintaining the original historic character of the building. I am so pleased with the final results!

> The combination of Scott's experience and creativity, allows him to draw blueprints that are cutting edge. In addition, he is willing to listen to the clients desires and incorporate them in the drawings. My time working with Scott, has yielded homes that reflect practically and futuristic concepts.

**★★★★★ — Bernie Ijimakin, Jan. 2024**

> Scott worked with our family in developing an architectural plan for an addition to our house. He was professional and kept us informed from start to finish. The plans were very detailed and very well done. Scott explained the details and helped us understand the plans. He was very patient when we needed to make changes to the drawings. We could not be happier with his professionalism and exceptional work. Highly recommended.

**★★★★★ — Heidi, Nov. 2023**

> Scott was meticulous throughout our project. We did a gut rehab of our first floor and extended the back of the house to add a new entrance, pantry and mud room. Scott's ideas were innovative and were focused on the functionality of the space. The results were better than we hoped for. Our house is beautiful! Scott was also great at working with the contractor to make sure everything was perfect. Scott is very easy to work with and I would highly recommend him.

**★★★★★ — V Jake Wagner, Jan. 2022**

> I have found Scott to be a very talented and gifted architect after working with him on many projects large and small. Scott is a good listener and a true professional. I recommend Scott for your future projects.

**★★★★★ — Richard Gricius, July 2021**

> We could not have asked for a better experience during our renovation. As first time home owners we were somewhat overwhelmed by all the possibilities and processes. Scott was always patient and prompt when we had questions. He always took the time to make sure we had a clear understanding of the more technical aspects of the designs and drawings. He was also able to move our permit through Chicago's notorious application process with ease, responding quickly when the city decided changes needed to be made.

**Comment from Roth Architects, Inc.:**

> Thank you for the kind comments Richard. It was a pleasure serving you and Nate and hope you enjoy your new home!

**★★★★★ — Tony Maguire, Sept. 2019**

> I couldn't recommend working with Roth Architects highly enough. We recently purchased a project of a house with major issues and were in way over our head. Scott came to the rescue and helped us through a grueling and ambitious rehab. He put together a brilliant design for us and helped us with every detail in and out of the scope of the project. He turned an impending disaster into our dream house. It is now more comfortable and beautiful than we could have hoped for. We are so grateful that he was able to get us here.

**★★★★★ — TONY AUGELLI, May 2018**

> Mr. Roth was very professional and knowledgeable. He was able to create exactly what we were looking for in our new home. What I truly appreciated was his quick response to any questions or concerns that we may have had through the entire building process.

**Comment from Roth Architects, Inc.:**

> Thank you for the kind words, Tony. It was a pleasure designing your home.

**★★★★★ — Mysha's Flooring Company, March 2018**

> I have met Scott on a project he was doing, a total gut rehab of a Chicago bungalow, i was very impressed with his knowledge and his attention to detail, the project ended up looking stunning! Very professional and a real pleasure to work with.
> I would highly recommend him to anyone!

**★★★★★ — Katrina Laflin, Feb. 2017**

> Working with Scott and Roth Architects, Inc. is always a pleasure. I have worked as a consultant to Scott on a number of projects since 2013. He is very dedicated to his Clients and always strives to provide creative solutions to exceed their expectations. I can't wait to work with Scott and Roth Architects in the future!

**★★★★★ — bbuettell, Nov. 2014**

> Scott served as our architect (Sigma Nu Alumni Association) starting 10 years ago as he provided us with some initial renovation plans for a fraternity house renovation at Northwestern University. Due to unforeseen circumstances, the original project was put on hold for several years. The project started back up again in 2012. Eventually, NU took over the renovation project and Scott served as their architect when the actual renovation began in March 2014. It was a very complicated project done in a compressed time frame, but Scott did an excellent job seeing the project through with numerous changes in the field on practically a daily basis. Even though Scott was not technically employed by Sigma Nu Alumni Association during the renovation, he kept us informed of the progress, consulted with us in coordination with NU's contractors as appropriate, and worked with us even after taking delivery of the building in September 2014 to ensure all punch list items were completed to NU's and our mutual satisfaction.
>
> Scott was very knowledgable about ADA issues, local Evanston historic preservation laws, NU regulations, and Evanston city codes, and when he didn't know something, he researched it and gave us the necessary answers to make decisions. Very meticulous in all aspects of his work. Despite the time pressures, I never once saw Scott get upset with any issue in the field. He was very professional and always a delight to work with no matter what the situation. Scott even helped last minute with picture boards for an open house we had showing the before and after pictures of the renovation. I would highly recommend him as an architect to work on whatever project you might have.

**★★★★★ — 60corvette, Nov. 2014**

> Scott Roth the consummate professional. Both working directly with Scott
> and indirectly, he is a pleasure to work with and is extremely careful to guard his clients best interests and desires by the high level of quality that he delivers. Scott & I had the privilege to work on the same home together and because of my work, I was able to study and capture his work close up and personal. I observed his good re pore with the client and the team that built and put the finishing touches of glory on his already work of art. The message that I heard over and over while on this project was how Scott had masterfully interwoven the 3 unique passions of this couple into this living space and yet made it so livable and not like a museum piece.
> No question at all - it takes someone who is really listening hard to hear beyond the words, the concepts, the pencil sketches on napkins that struggle to paint a picture or a dream.
> You need to find a way to make Scott Roth your architect for your next
> passion to turn into reality.

**Comment from Roth Architects, Inc.:**

> It has been a pleasure working for you (and your father) over the years on some challenging projects. Thank you for the review!

**★★★★★ — S & B Interiors, Inc., Aug. 2014**

> I had the pleasure of working with Scott on a very large residential project. As an interior designer working long distance, I found that he was easy to communicate with, creative and receptive to both the client's and my suggestions. Scott is a "team player". At all times throughout the project, he kept the best interest of our client as his primary goal. His knowledge of every aspect of the building project was amazing. He is detail oriented while always keeping the "big picture" in mind. He knew the goals of the project and worked with everyone involved on the project to create a media room, large entertainment area, wine cellar, library and magnificent kitchen. He created large, well organized spaces in the home which made it a pleasure as a designer to work with him. The project I worked on with Scott started from a home he had designed that my client saw and loved. Together we worked with the client to make the modifications necessary to meet our client's needs and vision. Scott is a talented professional who is a delight to work with.

**Comment from Roth Architects, Inc.:**

> Working with Sandi and her team was a very rewarding and pleasurable experience from day one. While I was the architect for the "Northern Beauty" custom residence, it was Sandi's exquisite interior design and implementation that made this house an unique gem. Kudos to her for turning my architectural design into a piece of Art.

**★★★★★ — Buschman Homes, Aug. 2014**

> We have worked with Scot Roth for more than 15 years. Projects have included large executive custom single family homes, production style single family homes, town homes and Luxury apartments and club houses. Scott is technically very competent, very creative, easy to work with, understands the entire development and construction process, and designs with efficiency in mind. I recommend Scott without reservation and with the highest compliments to his professionalism and integrity.

**Comment from Roth Architects, Inc.:**

> Pleasurable experience working with your company as well. Thank you for the review!

**★★★★★ — Coral Structures Inc, May 2013**

> Several years ago, I met Scott Roth at a meeting with home owners who invited our firm to build the home Scott had designed for them. We worked through the plan to incorporate many new details for the client. In a brief period of time, Scott produced a complete working plan to begin construction. Throughout the building process, I frequently had contact from Scott to make sure we were on track to meet the client's rigorous expectations.
> Scott’s prompt attention to our questions always enabled our construction team to move smoothly and efficiently during the build. Our experience with Roth Architects was very satisfying. We look forward to our next project with Scott Roth.

**Comment from Roth Architects, Inc.:**

> Thank you for the kind words!
> Coral was easy to work with, had great communication and always exploring different ways to achieve challenging details while working within the budget.

**★★★★★ — marsh02, April 2013**

> Architectural design of our home. He designed the home, all the layout and configuration and did all the construction drawings. He put our desires into focus and into the design of our home. Outstanding ability to translate our concepts into structure and to implement the design concept into an actual structure that meets all tests. Always available to address any construction design or implementation issues. Works conceptually and practically with the entire build team, designer, builder and all contractors to implement all features without negatively affecting the resultant design and features. The house was under construction for three years. He visited the house on his own at least monthly; spoke to us or met us regularly and met with our builder and interior designer regularly all to insure that it was being built properly.

**Comment from Roth Architects, Inc.:**

> One of my favorite clients! Loved designing your home...thank you for the opportunity!

## Community Q&A

**Q: replacing railing or half wall?** *(in Design Dilemma)*

This railing is so unstable as evidenced by my daughter just slipping down the stairs and pulled a post right in half when grabbing it! Advice needed .. replace railing or create a “half wall” (not sure on proper term) with shelving etc? House is unique in that main living area is on upstairs floor.

A: I would suggest a half wall - but if you like the look of balusters, then go with a more meatier newel posts with metal spindles anchored into a bottom plate such as this.

**Q: Beautiful kitchen** *(in Photo Questions)*

I love the counters and tile! Is the counter soapstone and if so what is the name of it? What kind of tile is it? Love the mosaic! Thank you!

A: Thank you for the kind words! The countertop is Quartzite from a rare slab called "Magnifico Leather" (has a leather finish). It came from Brazil and has copper and white streaks running through the stone. The back-splash tile is a 6"x6" tumbled Cream Antigua (from Floor & decor) with a linen grout. The mosaic is a glass tile with honed pieces from The Tile Shop. Let me know if you are seeking Architectural services. thanks!

**Q: What is the brand name of the couch pictured?** *(in Photo Questions)*

A: The components are by Foliot
(http://www.foliot.com/) and come from the Tomeo Collection. The fabric is Faux Leather Nugget (Freeport). Thanks for inquiring!

**Q: Glass art chandelier** *(in Photo Questions)*

We can provide. Contact me if you are interested.

A: This is a piece of art that my Client commissioned Dale Chihuly to design and install in this home.
http://www.chihuly.com/artwork

**Q: is the hosue painted brick? or Stucco?** *(in Photo Questions)*

A: Hello,
This house was a winner of a competition by the Home Builders Association of Greater Chicago as a concept/demonstration home with green technologies. The exterior is constructed of ICF's (Insulated Concrete Forms) with the finish of the upper levels in stucco applied directly to the ICF and the lower level (walk-out basement) in real stone veneer attached to the ICF. The R-value of the exterior walls yield over R50.
