> Marrokal did a wonderful job on our beach house renovation. The job more than doubled in scope and it was still completed on time. Our project manager(s) were skilled, responsive, professional, and, most importantly, were respected by their subs. They continue to monitor and follow up on any issues that arise, without hesitation. Customer satisfaction is paramount to their process.

**Comment from Marrokal Design & Remodeling:**

> Thank you Cindy. It was an honor. You were great to work with, again!

> We would highly recommend them for a home remodeling project. We recently added an outdoor entertainment area along with making some changes to the exterior of our house. During the design process we dealt with skilled designers that took our ideas and made them better. The 3D virtual video they made of the concept was fantastic and captured what the finished product actually looked and felt like when completed. Their construction team consisted of quality subs that did great work. We struggled to decide which sub was our favorite because they were all very good. The Project Manager on our job was experienced, thoughtful and very diligent with the running of our project. He was especially good at communicating with us throughout the project.
>
> We have remodeled several homes over the years and this was by far our most pleasant experience. Not only did we get a better project than we had anticipated from a vision and design standpoint, but we also had fun during the entire process from conception, design and construction.

**Comment from Marrokal Design & Remodeling:**

> Thank you so much for your comments. It was a pleasure working with you and your home looks awesome!

> Wife & I researched various local design-build contractors before selecting Marrokal Design and Remodeling (MDR). Our initial interview with Steven Mark sold us on integrity of the company and personnel. The design process had challenges as we had lofty desires with a limited budget. Yet in the end Steve delivered designs that fully met our needs. Wife & I then moved out as this total home remodel would take 9-months. It's difficult to place into words the outstanding oversight provided by Marrokal Project Manager Kevin Hanson. Kevin was totally on top of daily work activity vs. schedule while maintaining visibility of all required inspections. Schedule and budget were maintained as per projections.
>
> All subcontractors were terrific! Special mention to Paradise Painting (Sterling) and his terrific team! I was awestruck to hear that Sterling has been solely painting Marrokal projects for almost 20 years! Also special mention to The Tile Guys (Mike) and his artistic crew. All visitors to our home comment on the beautiful terra cotta floor which Mike's team laid out and installed.

> Recently Marrokal Design & Remodeling completed the remodeling of our condominium in downtown San Diego. From start to finish their work was excellent and we couldn't be happier with our remodeled unit. We strongly recommend Marrokal for anyone, like us, thinking about a remodel project for their home.
>
> We live on the 15th floor of a high-rise downtown San Diego condominium development called The Grande North. About one year ago, having lived here for awhile, we decided to remodel both our bedrooms, both bathrooms, and install new wood floors throughout. The work was particularly challenging because it included moving various interior walls to create a new walk-in closet (without losing too much space in our master bedroom). Knowing this was going to be a big, expensive project for us we interviewed a substantial number of people and companies. We interviewed design firms, general contractors, and design/build companies. When we interviewed Steven Mark, a Senior Design Consultant with Marrokal, we felt thoroughly comfortable with his presentation and ideas. He also suggested some terrific ideas for our kitchen that we had not considered, such as removing a section of our kitchen counter to add space and allow for the installation of an island counter. It was a great idea so we added the remodeling of our kitchen to the project. Steven was realistic and honest with us about pricing, the time necessary to do our project, and the challenges with remodeling in a high-rise development.
>
> We spent a couple of months working with Steven on the design of our remodel, and eventually obtained all the elements we were looking for. Once we finished the plans, Steven introduced us to George Lazorcik and Melissa Prevost, the Senior Project Manager and Interior Designer, respectively, for our remodel. All three people are Marrokal employees. This fact was extremely important because it eliminated any potential for “miscommunication” between design, interior design and construction.
>
> Before construction started, George gave us a construction schedule that outlined the various phases of work. George's schedule turned out to be spot on. This was important for us because, due to the extensive nature of our remodel, we had to rent another place to live for a 5 month period. There were three points about the construction of our remodel that were particularly outstanding: (1) No HOA rule was ever broken, Marrokal and their subcontractors were particularly vigilant about abiding by our HOA's rules and regulations. (2) Every day someone was on the job performing some task to complete the remodel. We've been involved in construction projects before where you'd get some work done one week, then one week off, then work the following week. George made sure that the work was continuous without various trades tripping over each other in a rush to finish. (3) If there was a problem, George told us about it and we worked it out. Obviously in a project this size unanticipated issues will come up, and they did, but George was always honest in his evaluation of whatever the problem and the potential solutions. This attitude made this project, for us, a lot less stressful. George was always “on our side.”
>
> In our case Melissa, our interior designer, was much more than that – she was also part mediator and part psychologist. We had a LOT of decisions to make because of the extensive nature of our remodel. Also, half-way into our project, we decided to change all our interior doors from paint grade to stain grade. So helping us make decisions on cabinets, doors, countertops, appliances, tiles, sizes, colors, and coordination of all of these for all the different rooms and the kitchen seemed like an insurmountable job. Yet Melissa took the time and had the patience to work with us over a number of months to make sure we achieved a finished product that surpassed our expectations. Of particular note was the research effort, design time, and coordination with a Canadian company to get a “one-of-a-kind” glass countertop that made our new kitchen truly unique and custom. Melissa, and her coworkers at Marrokal, spent an unknown number of hours behind the scenes making sure that the size, design and engineering for this countertop would not only complement, but enhance, our kitchen. Mission accomplished.
>
> So we can highly recommend Marrokal for anyone considering a remodel of their home. Even with the challenges of working in a high-rise condominium, Marrokal's employees went above and beyond to make our remodel something that was relatively stress free, truly unique, and a finished product of which we are extremely proud and thoroughly enjoy!

> I have hired Marrokal Design to build an attached Granny Flat on my daughters house. We are in the planning stages. Steven is wonderful to work with. He presented me with four different ideas from which to choose. We have melded the ideas into one and are presently submitting it for city permits. I am now working with one of the designers choosing flooring, cabinetry, etc. I would definitely recommend them to others.

**★★★★★ — J M, March 2016**

> We were very impressed with the professionalism and the attention to detail they provided. We would use them again in a heartbeat.

**★★★★★ — Ali J, Dec. 2015**

> Worked with them in 2012 and have been enjoying our house ever since. We did a full house remodel.
> The experience was really great. Not only is our house beautiful but the quality and durability is top notch.
> We were very cautious with our money, and spent a lot of time researching and deciding what we wanted ahead of time, (which is time well spent no matter which contractor is used). During the design process we ensured we had everything in the plans that we wanted (from lighting, outlets, and any build outs) and that helped make sure we were all on the same page. After all this was a partnership!
> Marrokal was very clear with communications, had a solid process in place, managed our expectations and all the subs, and we were able to stay on our budget. And we moved in 2 days prior to scheduled completion. WOOT!
> We've been in the house 3 years and the few minor issues that have come up were addressed quickly and at no cost.
> We received great value, quality, and customer experience.

**★★★★★ — User User, May 2015**

> I am completely satisfied with Marrokal Design & Remodeling! From the first moment I met with my architect, Steve Mark, I knew I would be working with a creative expert. Everyone was so helpful and masterful. From Steve, to my interior designer, Melissa Prevost, to my project manager, John Simko, to all the professionals who worked in my home, they all were meticulous in creating my beautiful living areas. My kitchen, dining room, glass and stainless steel staircase, bathroom, walls, cabinets were all designed with a totally modern look, which my friends call a luxury 5 star hotel. Although the project took over 4 months, it was well worth the wait! Marrokal deserves the outstanding reputation which it has in San Diego! Each one I met, including Gary Marrokal, the owner, Bruce Howard, the Senior Project Manager, and Barbara Anderson, at the office was kind, gracious, and supportive. Bravo, Marrokal.

**Comment from Marrokal Design & Remodeling:**

> We are happy that you are happy. Your remodel experience is as important to us as the end result.

**★★★★★ — rvanderwood, March 2015**

> Early last year we hired Marrokal to remodel our kitchen and it was really a great experience for us. I am a design professional myself and have worked with many design build companies over the years but I must say by far they are one the best. The design creativity was great and their construction subcontractors were outstanding, polite and very friendly. Whenever we had any concerns or questions Marrokal was right their to see that's things were addressed. The attention to details and quality of construction was terrific.

**Comment from Marrokal Design & Remodeling:**

> Not to mention your kitchen came out beautifully. It will definitely be featured in our 2016 calendar.

**★★★★★ — michelitasd, Sept. 2014**

> The Company did excellent work in both design and execution. The project manager was competent and conscientious, coming onsite each day and ensuring few delays. Communication and followthrough were outstanding. The subs were courteous and efficient. The project was finished ahead of schedule, leaving us very satisfied with the work.

**★★★★★ — aellner, Aug. 2014**

> I wish to nominate Theresa DeMarco, Project Manager of Marrokal. Her attention to every detail leaves us feeling comfortable while remodeling three bathrooms simultaneously. Her concern and attention to our comfort while we live through the remodel is greatly appreciated. Theresa's relationship with all the sub contractors is respectful as they get the work done in a prompt and professional manner. We are always clear on what work will be completed next as well as the costs (as they change). No surprises.
>
> She is constantly concerned with our approval and checks in with us at every step along the way. She responds to emails, texts and phone calls in a timely manner no matter how many projects she is currently working on. I always feel like our's is the only (and most important) project to her. It has been a pleasure working with her and Marrokal.

**★★★★★ — srudewick, March 2014**

> Remodel of living room, family room, and bathrooms and kitchen. Fantastic experience. Designers, workers, 6m - all classy and professional in every way. Can't compliment Marrokal D&R enough. I had a dream team!

**Comment from Marrokal Design & Remodeling:**

> Thank you S. We were happy to help you with this!

**★★★★★ — Landscape Logic, Jan. 2014**

> We have been working with Marrokal Design & Remodeling for the past few years and they have proven to be one of the best in the industry. The entire team is very experienced when it comes to design/build, whether it be interior or exterior. Overall great experience to be a part of what they do.

**★★★★★ — jbird1234, Jan. 2014**

> Extremely professional and high end quality. Did not use them at the time as we put our project on hold.

**★★★★★ — janderson12, Dec. 2013**

> Marrokal did a complete kitchen remodel including new cabinetry, large window replacement, and expanding the size. Their design team fulfilled all my expectations and the finished product was even more than I expected. It's a completely functional living area. Attention to detail was paramount. The workforce who completed all the elements (demolition, drywall, cabinet installation, electrical) were all professional, courteous, and experts in their fields. Marrokal was available to answer all my questions and concerns quickly, and made us feel like we were partnered in creating a perfect outcome. I'm a truly satisfied customer.

**★★★★★ — Kenneth Heath, Nov. 2013**

> The Design Manager listened to the overall project goals and was able to incorporate our desires as well as structural improvements. The trades crews were extremely neat and thorough cleaning up each and every night. Communication between the lines was excellent. The first project (basement and kitchen) lasted 9 months with several additional items (yard); then a second project (bedroom and baths) lasted 6 months. Highly recommend them for your job - big or small, extensive or simple.

**★★★★★ — jzeidler, Nov. 2013**

> Marrokal created a wonderful outdoor patio area for our home. We described what we wanted and they created a beautiful and functional addition that meets all of our needs. The work was professional, timely and of excellent quality. Every aspect of the project was done exceptionally well.

**★★★★★ — Beth Hogan, July 2013**

> Both the design consultant and project manager have been professional and patient and we work through all the details of the remodel. All of the subs have been excellent.

**★★★★★ — rustychang, June 2013**

> Marrokal came out on top after all the questions were asked. As a detail oriented person, I researched several design/build companies including Marrokal and narrowed it down to four choices prior to my total home renovation. After 'being invited' to visit some completed remodeling projects from other design/build companies, it was clear how some stood out (in not a good way). One house had newly built inner walls that were leaning over (for which the excuse from that company owner was, "that's how older homes are sometimes"). Another had very shoddy workmanship in the cabinet and finish work and yet another company didn't even bother to show up for the appointment while I was waiting in front of their house. I also went to all the quarterly Home Shows at both Del Mar Fairgrounds and the San Diego Convention Center for two years prior gathering info on Design/Build companies. As I talked with the various source vendors about my coming project, they would ask me who my General Contractor was. I'd throw out the different names of General Contractors I'd considered. Concerning the other design/build contractors, their unsolicited responses included "Oh, they're fine" or "I've worked with them before" or they'd simply roll their eyes and say nothing. However, when I said I was considering Marrokal, it was always an incredibly positive response such as... "They're the best, a little more than others but they do beautiful work...definitely the best, but you get what you pay for in this business" or "I've worked with Marrokal before, they're great to work with, I've never had any problems with them and they've always treated me as a sub-contractor with respect", or "Marrokal is always on us to clean up after we finish for the day, and that's good...I have pride in my work and the other subcontractors they hire there should too...I know the customers really appreciate that". Long story short I only had extremely positive comments from the professional vendors who actually work in the business with Marrokal and know their practices/product. That cemented the decision for me. On my total home remodel (adding a Loft, Great Room / Library and large lower Guest Bedroom with bath / moving the kitchen / Master Bedroom remodel and adding 1000 sq ft overall), they morphed my cookie cutter tract house into a real show home for the exact price that I was quoted at the start. I even changed a few walls in mid-construction and wasn't accessed any additional costs. Do your homework and you'll be happy.

> Marrokal designed and built a house for us in Pacific Beach. They were very easy to work with. We especially appreciate their encouraging us to give them ideas as to what we wanted. The project managers were very helpful and patient as they guided us through the project. We recommend Marrakal highly as a design-construction company.

**★★★★★ — binnyll5, June 2013**

> We raised our family in the same neighborhood over 26 years. Our home yearned for updating. Some goals were: eliminate fall risks from multi level flooring, make downstairs bathroom senior safe, open up family room and brighten up downstairs with new doors and windows. We chose Marrokal because of their impeccable reputation. We did not seek other bids because ours would be the 7th Marrokal remodel project in our small cul-de-sac. All our neighbors praised their work. The Design Team exceeded our expectations and incorporated creative innovations into our home AND helped us stay within our budget. The production phase required a bit of oversight, but this job, remodeling all of the downstairs, was completed on time in 5 1/2 months. We lived in our home during the project and Marrokal always kept the job site clean! The caliber of subs was top notch. The final product turned out fabulous! Finally, we rarely need to utilize our extended warranty due to the quality of workmanship, nothing breaks!
> There is no doubt in our minds that we will hire Marrokal for future projects. You should too!!

## Community Q&A

**Q: where are those towels rods from?** *(in Photo Questions)*

Where are the towels rods from?

A: The towel rods were provided by the homeowner but were probably purchased to match the plumbing fixtures which were purchased at either Ferguson or Pirch.

**Q: What is the size of the shower/tub space?** *(in Photo Questions)*

A: based on the tiles, tub and window the space appears to be about 10'x7'.

**Q: can you tile over a shower floor?** *(in Photo Questions)*

We just built a new home & have a large walk in tiled shower that doesn’t have a door..(which I love). The builder put in a large ‘shower pan’ which isn’t pretty compared to how pretty the tile all around the sides. I want to ‘re-cover’ the shower pan with pebble tile. Is that possible?

A: We would recommend removing the pan, waterproofing the floor, then tiling. While you could install tile in the pan you may have difficulty around the drain and adhesion may not last

**Q: pendant light fixture** *(in Photo Questions)*

Where did you find these light fixtures, and how much for each?

Ty.

A: These pendants were purchased about 4 years ago. We source lighting from Lamps Plus, Illuminating Interiors and Tazz Lighting. Some clients find their fixtures online as well.
