**Q: Need a quick face lift for this house** *(in Design Dilemma)*

We are looking to make a quick sale on this house and could use some advice on what we could do to freshen it up. Any suggestions on possible paint colors for the doors and deck and porch rails would be welcome.  The shingles will be replaced....Thanks so much

A: Have you ever considered having interior shutters installed? Something along the lines of a 4" louver would look great in your windows, bringing in natural light and a comforting look.

**Q: Need help with curtains for formal living room!** *(in Design Dilemma)*

We have tons of windows in our formal living room but I need help figuring out how many panels to get on each "cluster" of windows - there's a 4-window cluster, two singles, and another 3-window cluster. Questions:
 \- For the 4-window cluster, should I do 3 panels - one on either side and one in the middle?
 \- For the singles, do I need 2 panels for each single window or is one enough? What side should each be on?
 \- For the 3-window cluster, are 2 panels OK - one on either side?
 \- What's the rule on how long they should be? Kissing the floor, or with extra material pooling at the bottom? They are pretty exact for 96" but if I hung them higher, I could probably get away with 106"

A: May I suggest an alternate option, you have beautiful trim around your windows, have you considered interior shutters? We offer an array of styles, we color match as well. Because of the size and style of your windows a 4.5" louver or slat would look beautiful, as well as accent the room. Here is an example of a roddless feature that we offer

**Q: Help with window drapes for living room, and dining.** *(in Design Dilemma)*

I just built a new home and the back of the house is a lot of windows. I have nine foot ceilings and the windows go almost up to the crown moulding. They all have a beautiful trim around them.  I don't know what to do with the drapery. Although I'm in the country and its very private I don't like dark windows in the night so would like to cover them.  The dining room is just to the left of the living room. You can see the over lap in one of the photos. I was thinking Roman shades in the dining room, and drapes,  on on either side of the three windows enough to close, and a drape to one side on the windows around the fireplace.

A: What you might try are a large louver shutter, we offer a 5.5 inch louver that helps in areas where a client me feel like its dark. One of the benefits of having shutters is it helps bring in light to your house as well, where you have out in beautiful window casings we offer a faceless frame. Which will blend in with the molding as if it were a part of them.

**Q: How to lighten a cottage with small windows and black wooden beams** *(in Design Dilemma)*

We are buying a cottage which has painted black beams, everywhere! It also has a brick fire and lots of exposed brick around the property. It is quite dark as the cottage has small windows, so looking for some advise on how to best "Lighten up the inside". Lighting wise, mostly spots everywhere, the old Eye ball spot lights. 

Things considered so far:-

1\. Fresh coat of white paint everywhere (Walls)
2\. Painting over some of the black painted beams with white (This would be the minor beams only)?
3\. Paint every other beam white - Would this look ridiculous?
4\. Put a light wooden flooring throughout? A Light Oak???

We will be putting in a new Cream or White Kitchen at some point too.

Any Suggestions - would you paint some of the beams?

A: Another thing that you could do is take out the drapes and install plantation shutters, they would help bring in the natural light. If you were to do this, you could also on the opposite wall from the door or window is put up a mirror. This would help break up the light and scatter it throughout the room.

**Q: Need help with choosing the right colours for my rec room in the basem** *(in Design Dilemma)*

I want to change this current dark colour in my basement re room to warmer brighter colours! Maybe another colour couch also! What colours would make this room warmer & much nicer looking!!

A: You might try a lighter color, possibly a bleached linen or a two tone with a lighter grey. Another thing that may be fitting for the room is shutters, not only do they help bring in natural light. They are also great for insulating.

**Q: Window treatment options for large patio door/window?** *(in Design Dilemma)*

We recently bought a house.  I've been doing all the windows myself, until now.  I am stumped on this patio door window.  But I have been unable to get a rod long enough (probably 125" or so) and since it needs to open to the left, it needs to be a single panel (i think) and i can't even buy one that has the right fullness anyway.  So I decided to suck it up and go custom on this one window.  After 3 1/2 hours with them mostly fiddling with their computer, 3 day blinds gave me a quote for $1707 installed (and that was \*with\* a 20% discount).  This is for a wand pull, classic 3 finger pinch pleat drape on a wrought iron rod.  And after getting the quote, I found out that the fabric I picked (there were only two samples I liked) was 100% polyester, which was their least expensive fabric.  I knew it would be pricey, but I didn't know it would be that pricey.  I am a little horrified.  

Does this pricing sound competitive?  Do I have any other options?  (I hate vertical blinds with a passion.)  Here is a panoramic picture of the room and the rug.  Any help is appreciated.  Thanks in advance!
