Std.overlay?(OUT!) Probably Thermofoil. How old is this kitchen anyway? This is what is being torn out these days, not featured! Get it together people..... A: Thanks for your comment. Knobs and pulls are amber glass pieces (not brass) and door are wood not thermofoil. Everyone has different budgets and full remodels/new cabinets/layouts are not always a financial option for clients. We work with clients budget and tastes to give them the finish product that THEY like. **Q: Help with painting house** *(in Design Dilemma)* There are two different colors between the kitchen, hallway, family room, and formal room which is a play area. A: We have been using a color called pegasus 517-1 by pittsburgh paints in modern floor plan homes. The grey tint will compliment the tile, brighten up the area and really make those kitchen cabinets (with new hardware) look MOD rather than dated. If you wanted to add color you can always do an accent wall. The color pegasus is versatile and can more with almost any color- **Q: Wall color next to brick wall** *(in Design Dilemma)* What paint color should a wall next to a brick wall have. The sofa and chairs are mouse grey. Those paint samples turned out to be not as nice as I had imagined. Can someone please help. A: Here in Maryland, we paint a lot of Baltimore row homes. Almost all of them have exposed brick. Using the floor color and your description of your furniture, I would go towards Versitile Gray or Individual white to continue the modern feel. Tans, taupes and darker colors will make a room with a brick accent appear smaller and are more traditional choices. The grey will make the space look modern and more industrial. here is a before/after pic of Baltimore salon Studio 921, where tan was replaced with a light grey, making the space more modern and accenting the brick. **Q: Has anyone out there had sucess painting over oil based paint?** *(in Design Dilemma)* Our home is painted wall to wall in what we are assuming to be a very high gloss oil based paint. We have sanded the walls 4 times with an electric sander, tried a few very expensive primers suggested by the paint store professionals and the paint still continues to chip and peal. We have finally waved our white flag to the DIY painting and have started calling in the professionals. The two of the three guys I have spoken with are proposing they do the same thing that my husband and I have already done. This clearly is not acceptable and I feel it will just be a waste of money! The only alternative I have come up with is using oil base primer with latex paint however that keeps getting shot down. My hope is that someone in this forum has an idea or two that might help. Even if I did like the ugly cream walls they still need a coat to freshen them up and that is not even possible because you can't buy oil based interior paint anymore. I should also mention that while we know it is not lead paint we would not be surprised if it wasn't paint on the walls but an alternative maybe even commercial coating that is no longer used. It is so thick it almost has a plastic like quality. We do know that the walls have changed colors over the years because we have found alternative colors of paint behind areas such as behind the microwave, in cabinets and trim. (By the way we have thought of dry walling over the plaster. This costly and messy measure will be used as a last resort.) Thanks for any and all suggestions.... I need color in my house! A: Correct way is to scuff sand oil painted trim, apply oil primer than apply top coat of latex paint. We have found that a product called NexTech is a latex paint that will cover and adhere to existing oiled surface with out needing to be oil primed first. I have found it that it is a great product, but the semi-gloss finish isnt as "smooth" as with a typical latex semi-gloss.
