**★★★★★ — Karalee Calcagnini, Sept. 2022**

> While searching for a new home base several years ago, my husband and I fell in love with the Hendersonville, NC area. Luckily we found a building lot that suited us perfectly. This is our 4th house and the 2nd to be designed and built from the ground up. Unlike our previous home, this building project presented new challenges for us, specifically we lived nearly 800 miles away. We started researching builders and asking people down here about their building experiences. Fortunately we were directed to George Pendleton. His company had decades of experience working together as a team. Later, while choosing our building materials for our home, we found that nearly every supplier gave George and his trades people stellar reviews as a highly respected team noted to have the highest integrity and attention to detail. It seems that this team has been highly regarded for many years. Over time, we saw what many people knew as George activated and organized his team to build our home. Throughout the entire process, from our initial meeting and estimate right up to the move in and after, George made this long distance build for us seamless. He conquered challenges that arose due to supply chain and covid issues by relying on his experience, expertise and vast connections. George was always readily available to answer our questions and remains currently so helpful as we enjoy our first few months in our new home. He listened to us throughout the process and delivered a home that is beyond our dreams. Many heartfelt thanks to George and his entire team.

> I used George Pendleton for a large remodel of a commercial space for my business. George worked well with the architect and the designer I used. His input and level headedness saved me money and still delivered an absolutely gorgeous space for my employees to work out of. He was professional and accessible. I would highly recommend George for any project.

**★★★★★ — HU-333903619, Aug. 2021**

> George and his crew are professional, timely, and 100% on budget! His work is top notch, and the finished product is amazing! Highly recommend George Pendleton! We have used him multiple times for various projects, and we'll be definitely be calling on him again.

> Can’t say enough good things about George and his guys (particularly Mike). Donna and I now have a custom, beautiful and extremely well built home I’m sure we will enjoy for many years. George’s input was invaluable and his standards are very, very high of both himself and all who entered/worked on our house. I really appreciated his easy going demeanor when interacting with us (even when we asked silly questions) and his obvious personal interest to assure we were satisfied and to provide the very best outcome(s). He listens well, was always available, had great insight into all aspects of the build and always kept us well informed. His attention to detail was unbelievable and he caught a great deal we wouldn’t have even noticed (and may well have put more money in his pocket if overlooked). He is honest, reputable, hard working, very smart and easy going. In case your interested (I would be), we came in ON budget! I have already asked him to build my next home. Highest, highest recommendation.

> My name is Bill Grant and I own Grant & Grant Design Group in Brevard, NC. I have had the privilege of working with George on a large custom residence I designed in the Asheville area. Because I had never worked with George I was initially apprehensive due to the level of detail in the structure. As George began the project my apprehension began to subside. As George took control of the project my confidence in him grew stronger. Now that the project is 98 percent complete I can say with confidence that George Pendleton is on of the finest builders I have ever worked with. His attention to detail is unmatched and his ability to communicate with the designer / consultants is of the highest order. I have been in business for almost 36 years and during that time I have rarely recommend builders. However I highly recommend George Pendleton. Working with George has been a pleasure and hope to do it again soon!

> George has really created a Masterpiece that will last for a long, long time. It is difficult to describe because it includes an awesome natural setting on the Hungry River in a rugged mountainous area of Henderson County. So George walked into this setting and with the owners vision of what they wanted, went about to create a One of a Kind Riverside Getaway Pavilion. The setting and the pavilion deserve equal credit for creativity.......it is Awesome.

> I have known and have worked with George Pendleton for many years. My experience with George has revealed him to be a very thoughtful advocate for the homeowner. He works tirelessly to find solutions that will achieve design intent while still staying within a specified budget. George is creative, resourceful and transparent and he builds relationships with his customers throughout the process that assure open lines of communication and trust. He is a true craftsman adhering to principles that assure quality construction and attention to details that really matter. I have felt very confident when referring homeowners to him for these reasons and because he builds a really gorgeous house!

> The expertise of creative craftsmanship coupled with the implementation of functional intregity and quality workmanship enabled my husband and myself to confidently trust George Pendelton as our general contractor. His sensitive recognition of our goals and detailed analysis of project features and costs, ensured our full confidence in his ability to complete a residential design that is functional and efficient, structurally sound and aesthetic.

**★★★★★ — Sonya Simpson, Oct. 2017**

> We had a great experience with George. He has a great eye for detail and like to add a little something extra to everything he does. He was helpful in reviewing over all our options and made great suggestions. You may have a great idea, but George will work hard to make it even better! He kept us informed throughout the process and finished the job on time for us to move in. We couldn't have asked for a smoother transition and will be looking to George again in the future when it comes time to build again.

**★★★★★ — Merle Peterson, Aug. 2017**

> We were living in another state when our house was built and we only saw the progress every 6 weeks or so. Therefore, we depended greatly on Mr. Pendleton to make decisions on our behalf and were exceptionally pleased with his creativity and quality workmanship in this custom home. Under the circumstances we needed a man with integrity and were very pleased to have selected Mr. Pendleton. Despite some small changes during the building process the house was completed under budget and we were very satisfied with our beautiful new house.

> Excelent craftsmanship and customer service!!
> George and his crew are the best people I ever had the pleasure to work with!

It came with its own piece of riverfront property on a scenic little river in the WNC mountains. In spite of our planning, as the work began, this project took on a life of it own. ## Community Q&A

**Q: Beautiful bathroom** *(in Photo Questions)*

What rain shower heads did you use in the master shower? Thanks.

A: Kohler K-13694-CP 12-inch round rain showerhead.

**Q: What material is this made from?** *(in Photo Questions)*

Is this wood or composite? If it is Trex, could you please tell me what color it is?

A: The first picture you inquired about is Ipe’. The additional photo posted is Trex. Trex will probably be half the initial cost and require less maintenance. The Ipe is absolutely stunning, will last forever but will naturally turn a beautiful gray without yearly application of oil. The wood is so dense the oil simply can’t penetrate deep enough to prevent the natural change of color due to weather. However...it also doesn’t rot and it seems immune to wood boring bugs. My client pressure washes, lightly sands and reseals annually to keep the look. Other clients will let theirs turn gray and naturally weather to avoid the cost of maintenance or because they prefer the silver color. Pictured is a piece of Ipe salvaged from the Atlantic City Boardwalk after being untreated at the beach front conditions for forty years. The lack of deterioration is truly impressive. More information then you may have wanted...best of luck with your project!

**Q: To backsplash or not to backsplash?** *(in Design Dilemma)*

Because we needed to re-pipe our home, we ended up doing a needed but unplanned kitchen reno. We had a 35 year old u-shape with room for a kitchen table. We wanted a modern look with clean lines, lots of storage and a big island. We were able to relocate the fridge and add pantry space by eliminating a cramped laundry closet. I really wanted some natural wood somewhere, I made distressed planking and a couple floating shelves. Spending hours here reading advice and information from the houzz community was invaluable. We bought a consult session with a kitchen designer and had the countertop installed, but otherwise did all the work ourselves.

We're very happy with the way everything came out, but are really stumped about the backsplash. We tried a stainless steel panel between the stove and hood fan, but felt it drew to much attention. Some tile we liked was $30+ a square foot which isn't going to happen. We've considered just tiling between the stove and hood fan, but aren't sure. We've considered a 2x6 frosted glass tile, but it just doesn't seem right. I painted the dark paint across the light wall as a backsplash, but we didn't like that look either.

Recommendations? Does it look unfinished as is? Is there a way to simply protect behind the stove without changing the look? thanks in advance!

Paint colours are Benjamin Moore Gentleman's Gray and Revere Pewter. Countertop is Radianz Columbia Grey.

A: Lots of great ideas here! Great job on your make over!
I would backsplash from range to hood only. I like the idea of cut glass but might suggest “wire (security) glass” cut and installed with wires placed on a 45 degree angle to the counter top. You can have any local glass shop pre-drill holes to fasten easily with wall anchors, grommet & stainless steel screws. Might also look for a glossy medium grey glass mosaic 2”x4” installed in standard running bond pattern. Either way, I’d vote for glass for great clean, functional, low cost option. Heck, looks like you have spent plenty, why stop now? Nice job!

**Q: Deck railing** *(in Photo Questions)*

Where do I find this?

A: Porch railing was custom designed and built by a local steel welding and fabrication shop. It was constructed using a mixture of readily available wrought iron railing components. I hope that helps! Thanks
