A: The translucent material in the pass-through doors is frosted, interlaminated glass.  You can see the kitchen in the other version of this photo with the doors open.

A: @erita - I'm not sure if you mean just the fireplace or the pergola as a whole. Either could be enclosed with some simple renovations, but, as pictured, no, they remain open.
