We did go with one of their floor plans which was actually nice because we could walk thru the plan and see it in real life. We did tweak the floor plan to our liking and also changed the elevation. It truly does not look like any of their other homes. The building of our home was very easy and we were keep informed about the change orders on a regular basis. The standard features are well outlined thru out the building process. The house was done faster than the timeframe they gave us and closing was a breeze. We have been in the house about 4 months and are working thru our touchups from the warranty. When approaching this project, we had a pretty good idea what we wanted. The Silver Stone design/build team worked with us every step to turn this idea into a home that really fits us. We incorporated a number of personal purchases into our house and Silver Stone was supportive and helpful with these. In addition, when our vision wasn't quite clear, our team was able to provide truly helpful construction and design suggestions that were aligned with both our taste and budget. > > All that said, custom does not mean perfect--in fact quite the opposite. When trying to achieve a unique product, many unforeseen problems crop up. In our particular case, when things didn't go as planned, the Silver Stone team was professional and responsive. It was stressful at times, but in particular, our project coordinator was a champ at resolving issues. But if we were to do it all again, there are a couple things that could have been done better. First is transparency. Not all of the allowances are clear up front, nor is what they cover. Budgeting is really difficult, especially when some of the things you might like to splurge on are chosen toward the end of the process. Second is careless subcontractors. These folks have little stake in your house or the overall process and it shows in their work and attitude. There's not much oversight of the subs while their work is progressing. Quality control is performed by inspection after the fact. That means extra time and anxiety fixing things that should have been done right the first time. > > Overall however, we put a lot of time, effort, and sweat into this house--and so did the Silver Stone team. Consequently, our house feels like the home we envisioned. At his point, we have only minor warranty issues and those are being addressed reasonably well. The long term value of our home remains to be seen.
