Mark was rude and dismissive of me, spoke mostly to my husband and at one point reprimanded me to put my iPad away. We have moved on. **★ — Tiahna Wilkins, Dec. 2020** > While I cannot speak to their work, I can tell you that I was absolutely horrified by the consultation. Mark wore a face shield (not a mask), which has been proven ineffective. The entire time he was in our home, he was reaching under it to touch his face and rub his nose before touching everything in our home. He never washed his hands. > > That would be enough on its own, but it gets worse. The renovation he was consulting on was my project. My idea. Something I had researched and planned because I wanted it. Yet Mark would only speak to my husband. Even when I asked questions, he wouldn't look at me, but would give the answer to my husband. It was infuriating. > > To really round it out, Mark couldn't have been more rude about the fact that we have pets. What do you expect when you come to someone's home? People have pets! Our dogs were outside and Mark was still openly livid. Every time one barked (because he wanted inside), Mark would comment on it. He also made several comments about us needing to "keep them out of his way when the job starts". He never even SAW a dog at our home because THEY WERE OUT OF THE WAY. > > Obviously, we went with someone else. It's hard to believe that someone can still be so rude to women in 2020. I will communicate below my intentions for first meetings and will strive to do better in the future. > At the time of my appointment with you and your husband Luke on October 12th I was not aware of the CDC‘s recommendation of mask over face shield. During the early weeks of the pandemic the use the face shields was recommended, and I used a face shield to protect my eyes, nose and mouth while allowing potential clients to see my face. Based on new guidelines, I am now wearing a mask and a face shield. We maintain that it’s each person’s responsibility to ensure safety during this time and so encourage clients and potential clients to clean high touch surfaces after we’ve been in the home. > During our meeting I recall I sought to draw you both into the conversation especially in regard to the design request of removing a wall between the only primary bathroom and what would be the master bedroom. As a master certified remodeler through NARI, the code of ethics is important to me. The first ethic states I should be promoting only those products and services which are functionally and economically sound. I think my concern of having an open space between the only full bathroom for the home and the master bedroom needed discussed with feedback from all parties. My practice is to seek feedback from the quieter individual regardless of gender. > In response to your observation about dogs, I am concerned about dogs that are acting in what appears to be aggressive manner, knowing that my employees and trusted subcontractors will be in and out of the home for many weeks. We have had dog bites and difficult issues in the past with clients’ dogs. While at your home, the dogs appeared to me to be aggressively jumping onto a back door which was visibly moving while they jumped on it. In 2007, Kresge added a two story addition, with a three season-room as the second floor. My wife calls it the "tree house" because of the view. Kevin Hittepole was the project manager for this project and our most recent project, a complete kitchen remodel. Not only does Kevin do incredible work, he is honest to a fault. We trust him implicitly. Kresge uses computer simulations, so the graphic that they prepared for looked remarkably like the final product. Mark Kresge estimated a three-month timeline for completion, but finished a few weeks short of that. If you are considering remodeling your home, I highly recommend at least getting an estimate from Kresge. Their work is very high quality at a reasonable price. While they were here, we had them rebuild two of our decks using Trex (non-wood material) and they both look terrific. The cost of the decks was approximately $12,000, which is not included in the approximate project cost below. This number is just for the kitchen remodel, excluding the cost of new appliances. The picture posted below shows the new microwave on the countertop. I had made comments over the years about updating it but wasn’t until I retired and we were tripping over each other that he acknowledged the wisdom of a new floor plan. Once we decided to remodel the kitchen of our 1923 home we called Kresge Contracting about the project. They renovated our upstairs bathroom and installed a second one on our main floor three years ago and we were very pleased with the outcome of the project. > > Mark Kresge (company president) responded in a timely manner and we had a meeting to discuss design options for the kitchen. Once Mark understood our “wants and needs” he designed our new kitchen. He also knows to ask the right questions – such as “how is your comfort on the upper floor?” Per Mark, “It is easier to make these kinds of modifications when the walls are open.” In the process of construction, a second cold air return was installed on our upper floor, which has made it easier to cool and much more comfortable. > > The remodel not only required the gutting of the existing kitchen but also the removal of the wall between the kitchen and dining room. Since our house is old, the question of lead paint and asbestos needed to be addressed. Lucky for us, our house does not contain lead paint, however we did need to deal with asbestos removal on the heating duct in the demolished wall. Kresge takes environmental hazard issues seriously and has been trained to identify and address them in an appropriate manner. > > Andy L. (our project manager) was timely, courteous and really knows his job. He has excellent communication and organizational skills, which were evident in the smooth flow of the renovation. We were told the job would take about 12 weeks and Andy ensured that the schedule was followed. He kept us informed of the “who, what, where and what time” during the course of the project. Problems were dealt with in a timely manner and to our satisfaction. The personnel that performed the work were knowledgeable, courteous and friendly. However if your cabinets a a natural cherry they will have more movement toward the light tones then the natural ipe floor would have.
