This designer was interested first and foremost in selling us one particular brand of wood floor which she claimed she buys directly from the manufacturer (Duchateau) and consequently getting a better price for us which proved to be absolutely false. We wanted to see more floor samples, but never did. She obtained a retainer for the amount of $3,750. In a period of 17 days, we never saw more than ONE floor sample and ONE piece of fabric which neither one we saw fit for what we wanted to achieve. As a result of our dissatisfaction for the lack of results during that period of time, we asked for the hours tally. She refused to do that, and the contract was terminated. When asked about the retainer, the result was her charging us $1,160 for 7.75 hrs. of work and nothing to show for as far as design, fabric or floor selection!!!! Best of all, she charged us for time spent on her part for solicitation and before signing the contract!!!!! She also charged us for time after she was told to put hold on the project. > Not sure what Susan Wesley's design capability is, but very sure she was not professional (to say the least) in handling this project. She charges $1,160 and produced nothing. Her motive was to sell us (Duchateau) wood floor before doing anything else. She wasted our time, lost us the opportunity to achieve our goal in a timely manner. I urge anyone who's reading this review to save themselves the disappointment and the money , and to check references with people other than her vendors and a couple of her friends and don't fall for her fancy website bio. **Comment from Wesley Design Inc.:** > "It was a difficult and disappointing decision but I had to terminate my relationship with Judy. I take great pride in my business and the relationships I have developed with my clients for over nearly three decades now. She is very unhappy that I terminated the contract with her but to protect my business and myself it was necessary. > > I've been in the business of Interior Design since 1983 and opened my own business in 1987...29 years ago. In all that time I've never had to terminate a project before. > > Judy and I worked together from September 28th to October 18th 2016. I met her some 12+ years ago, she was working in a nice department store and she waited on me often, we had some light conversation. I felt I was familiar with her and we could work together. In August/September before I started working with her she popped into my office at the Laguna Design Center. She said she needed help with her home and she wanted to work with me. She was working with another designer in the San Diego area but was unhappy. She worked on getting out of that contract because the designer wasn't doing anything and wouldn't return her phone calls. I understand why now. > > We talked about a month later and she was ready to move forward. She was in a hurry to begin work and wanted to replace her old aluminum oxide coated wood floors, which were hard to take care of and not durable. My job was to replace those wood floors with a durable, non shiny, ease of care wood they could live with. > > We had spent considerable time discussing her design needs in my office and on the phone before the contract was signed. She stated she was in a hurry to get started. On the day they signed the contract we met in my office so I could talk to them about the different types of wood floors on the market and compare them to their existing floors. I showed them wood samples from my library and answered questions. This was a working meeting for 1.5 hours and just a formality to sign a contract. > > The following week I brought a bag of fabric samples and some wood flooring samples to discuss in her home. We also met with my wood flooring specialist/installer about her special needs and a quote. He also recommended my wood flooring solutions. The next week we met again at my office and shopped the design center for fabric, looked at more wood samples, which she took home. > > In good faith I started right away on this project and gave it my best but was met with resistance to nearly every solution presented. She was unrealistic, unreasonable, anxious and texting me at inappropriate times. I asked her to please try to trust me to no avail. Unfortunately, I could no longer continue to work with her fighting me all the way and began to realize she could never be pleased. Right now for our remodel we are considering moving the refrigerator next to the dishwasher, removing the cabinets that are currently next to the refrigerator, and making the island a little bigger. Of course this would mean there is no longer a straight walkway as soon as you walk in and I’m thinking that may be crowded as well. Any other ideas or suggestions? A: Just looking at this very quickly. The first thing that stood out to me...if you painted your cabinets white that kitchen wouldn’t seem so dark & small. White cabinets will feel brighter and lighter. **Q: What exact stone was used for the wall? I love it!** *(in Photo Questions)* A: This backyard was done many years ago. It could be Eldorado Stone, they have many styles to pick from. **Q: Large wall** *(in Design Dilemma)* Hi! I need your advice on how many mirrors and what color of frame to go with. The mirrors are 42x16. Should I keep the mirrors in just the area where the carpet starts or include as much of the wall space as possible? A: These mirrors are very nice but you already have a vertical element to the wall with the wainscoting below. How about a metal organic sculptural wall art. Like leaves or a floral..something that doesn't stick out too much from the wall. You could use a large painting. **Q: Which would you rather have unlimited budget for: Kitchen or Bedroo** *(in Design Dilemma)* Most of my time in my home is split between these two. A: Maybe instead of an unlimited budget, just a smart budget. A good interior designer can help you with the numerous decisions, prevent you from making costly mistakes and help you design a beautiful kitchen that is good for resale in the future. A nice Kitchen is always a great selling point, so I would choose that first. **Q: Kitchen cupboards different white than rest of white in house** *(in Design Dilemma)* I recently painted all the ugly 70's wood and wood trim in fam room in white dove. Didn't think about how that would work with our kitchen cupboards which have a creamy white with a yellow tone to it in certain lights. The rooms are open to eachother. We're going to get new counters and backsplash soon. Do I need to consider painting cupboards to blend better with rest of house?
