This time there was no problem to be fixed, our circa 1985 house just needed some updating. We mainly wanted to replace the tile countertops, but that led to new sinks, some new light fixtures, fans and the opportunity to make small improvements like dimmer switches and LED tube lights. And just like our first experience, we are extremely happy with the results. We are enjoying our home again. > When it comes time for our next project, we will, for sure, contact Alex Freddi again. We really appreciate that everyone involved were nice people to work with. **★★ — HU-866528710, Aug. 2023** > Alex Freddi Construction recently completed a bathroom remodel in our home. This process was complicated by the fact that the contractor that started the job was unable to complete the work for personal reasons after completing the demolition process. We were grateful that Alex Freddi’s group was willing and able to come in and finish the job. However, there were some issues that caused us to withhold a recommendation. > 1\. After Alex Freddi and the assigned project manager visited the site, we purchased tile from CFM for the floor and shower walls based on their measurements. The amount of unused wall/floor tile was in excess of six unopened boxes ($800), which was non-refundable. In our numerous other tile jobs in the past, the excess tile has been minimal. The bullnose tile ordered was barely adequate. We would suggest asking that the tile installer recommend the amount to be purchased, because it was immediately apparent to him that we might not have enough of one type and too much of the other. We believe that Alex Freddi should have taken ownership for the faulty tile order and offset of our loss. > 2\. An old exhaust fan that vented through the wall had been removed and replaced by the first contractor. The interior wall was patched with drywall to our satisfaction, but when we asked when the exterior decommissioned vent would be removed, the project manager told me he thought it looked fine and that it would be difficult to repair. I had assumed (incorrectly) that removing the vent and patching the exterior siding would be included in the job, and instead I will be doing that myself. > Near the end of the job we received an email requesting payment and stating how important our complete satisfaction was. In response, a few unfinished items were brought up to the contractor, including the two items above. The other items were completed to our satisfaction, but we received no response to our question regarding the tile overage and the exterior exhaust vent, just a request for the final bill. We responded that if they were not planning to address those concerns, we would forward final payment upon receipt of a lien release, which we received. No acknowledgement of the issues was ever offered. > If you do choose this company, we would suggest that you get a reference for the specific project manager that will be responsible for your job. Alex Freddi comes out the first day to look at the job and owns the company, but the individual project manager is your day-to-day contact. With respect to material orders such as tile or flooring, we would suggest that you request that the installer confirm the amount as it could be a significant cost if it is incorrect. Regarding the written contract, be very careful that everything you expect to be done is written down, even if it seems implicit. If you find yourself dissatisfied with any item not specifically addressed in the contract it is likely to be ignored. **★★★★★ — Kathryn Delgatto, March 2021** > From the very beginning, Alex Freddi Construction handles our project with professionalism and respect. We had a guestroom converted to a master bath. Our project manager and his team were very conscientious and thorough. They displayed real pride of workmanship. Communication was excellent. There was someone on site daily and they adhered to the schedule. They also were very sensitive to our COVID concerns and did everything within their power to ensure our safety. Having someone with extensive work experience and knowledge in the area helped us tremendously, as this was our first big remodel project. The remodel team Bob (Project Manager) and Bill were professional, always reachable, very helpful with our questions, and extremely good-natured. Alex and his team were timely in their response and we saw them work hard to keep with the scheduled timeline they had given us before they started the remodel. After the remodel work had started we had to leave the country on a family emergency. Alex’s team agreed to take on the responsibility of finishing the work while we were gone, so we could come back to a completely remodeled kitchen! Alex gave us a reasonable estimate before we decided to go with his proposal. We were pleasantly surprised to receive a refund after the remodel! We are extremely happy with our new kitchen. **★★★★★ — sand1004, Nov. 2015** > Alex Freddi Construction did an amazing addition on our small SW Portland house. We originally purchased an 800sq foot house and with the addition of two family members we knew it was time to either add more room or move up. Alex and his team helped walk us through the steps involved in doubling the size of our house. Vaulted ceilings in a new great room, a new kitchen, two new bathrooms and a new master bedroom rounded out our expansion. Through the whole process we had great communication with the team and all our concerns were promptly resolved. **★★★★★ — messecar, Oct. 2014** > Bath addition > This was a bathroom addition in a small 1,000 square foot condominium. The condo only had one bathroom and this was a real problem for my mother. Considerable expertise and skill was needed to figure out a location where a bath could be added within the confines of the existing walls and spaces in the condo. Kyle and Alex did their usual superior job in figuring this all out and then getting the plans approved with Washington County. We added a toilet, pedestal sink and a walk in handicap tub. The work was just phenomenal. Kyle had to figure out the engineering needed to add a pocket door to enter the space and also get this approved separately by the permit folks in Washington county. This required special drawings and engineering determinations about the load above the proposed pocket door. The tub also proved a bit tricky to install because it was a floor model that I got for a heavy discounted price. Kyle had to do some special planning and refinishing work to make the installation work -- but he did a beautiful job! I will try to attach pictures if I can. Figuring out the placement of all the fixtures also required considerable skill due to the small dimensions of the addition -- but it all looks beautiful now! very exquisite. Also, another nice feature, Kyle installed by Ginger grab bars and they look terrific -- beautiful but functional -- in addition, he also suggested the use of a radiant towel bar to supply the heat that would be needed in the bathroom since connecting to the furnace was not going to be possible. It too looks beautiful but has a very special function. In case I forget, Kyle also installed the Robern cabinet accommodating its special lighting and electrical hook ups. These cabinets are terrific but they are bear cats to install - they are heavy and very complicated -- Kyle is a master when it comes to getting these cabinets in place and getting them to function properly. All of this work was completed in March -- I feel confident that the work has substantially increased the value of the condo and has certainly resulted in a better quality of life in this small space. Oh I almost forgot to mention the amazing tile work done by Kyle's tile guys. They are masters of matching and laying out tile -- that is doubly important in a small space. > Kyle and Alex are so terrific to work with -- they are always just a text or phone call away -- I never have to worry that if I am worried about something that I cannot reach them -- they are terrific about calling and responding immediately!! After having to use some other handymen for small projects, I cant tell you what a difference it makes to have contractors who are so responsive and nice about questions. I never get the feeling that they are patronizing me or that they think my worries or questions are stupid! You are always kept informed about what is happening with the project -- communications are their strong point no doubt!! but also too -- the quality of the work is so fantastic!! It just comes out beautiful. In 2014, they did work for me on a house that I sold for 100,000 dollars over what I thought I was going to get! the buyers who looked at the house loved the work that Kyle and Alex did -- the same will be true in the future for this bath addition which is beautiful and wonderfully functional! > > Bath remodel and Kitchen updates and floor > > This was a bathroom remodel where an old tub was removed and a new walk-in shower was created. Kyle and Alex helped us design a plan to install a walk in shower and redo the electrical and furnace vent placements to greatly improve the safety and efficiency of the bathroom. My mother had fallen in the bath tub shower combination - slipping on the tub and then breaking her elbow as it became wedged in between the handrail and the wall in the tub/shower combo. This project removed this dangerous tub and created a curb free shower!! What a delight it is to just walk into a shower!! I always knew that a walk in shower would be nice, but I cant tell you how much less stress and strain it is to have a totally curb free shower and it is gorgeous. Kyle helped me get DT glass out to install a sliding glass frameless door. Kyles tile guys were amazing, taking great pains to lay out the tile pattern so it would look beautiful -- its really a work of art. IN addition to the tile work in the shower, Kyle put in this most ingenious slit drain that looks so pretty and ensures that water never flows out of the shower area into the dressing area. He also installed a Mr. Steam wall seat for the shower that looks just terrific. For the rest of the bathroom, Mh custom cabinetry created the most beautiful custom cabinet. Kyle then installed a series of Robern cabinets that required wiring and linking them together along with a special lighting package. Overall, the bathroom is so much more functional and beautiful!! I highly recommend a project like this and Kyle and Alex are the ones to make it happen. > > The project also included a last minute add on of installing a new kitchen back splash and counter top. Kyle had to do some major rehab of the base cabinets to make this project possible. He is a carpentry wiz, and his work is always stellar. The work also included tiling the entire living room and hallway. Modifications of the laundry space were required to accommodate the new tile floor. > As usual, Kyle was imminently flexible and easy to work with -- this project required my many schedule adjustments due to an unanticipated problem with having to replace the entire heating and cooling systems for the condo. This work required a week long interruption in the project to allow the HVAC guys to come in and tear out the non functioning multi split system and install and new gas furnace and air conditioning system. Kyle and Alex were so terrific working with me to accommodate this huge project in the middle of their scheduled work. Kyle is really a master of scheduling the trades to do a project. This project required not only working with the HVAC guys, but electrical, plumbing, and tile work as well as painters, and dry wallers!!
