> I contacted Landscape Projects about maintaining our mature and varied gardens. However, they have gone beyond my expectations and made thoughtful and creative e enhancements to my property. Laura, a landscape designer with Landscape Projects, is knowledgeable and professional and has preserved and improved our exciting landscape as well as created beautiful seasonal containers at our entrance, kitchen terrace and poolside. The crews are courteous, diligent and efficient and I have been very happy with the quality of their work. Just as importantly, I have found Laura and Landscape Projects responsive to my needs and concerns. They are a pleasure to work with.

**★★★★★ — Danielle Collins, Feb. 2018**

> The whole team at Landscape Projects offers exceptional design experience and was such a pleasure to work with throughout the transformation of our backyard. I was also thoroughly impressed with the vendors Landscape Projects contracted to carry out the scope of the project. From vision to reality, let Landscape Projects walk you through the process - you won’t be disappointed!

**★★★★★ — Caroline Ervin Landscape Design, May 2017**

> Over the past 10 years, Landscape Projects has installed gardens for many of my clients with gardens large and small. From custom stonework to complex planting plans, their crews always make my garden designs look as my clients imagined and as I have planned. When I have large quantities of plants, or unusual plant selections, their plant buyer hunts down top-notch quality plants. Michael and his staff are also pleasant and easy to work with - and my clients enjoy working with them too.

**★★★★★ — Marion Oxford Dearth, May 2017**

> For over twenty years I’ve worked with Landscape Projects to install countless projects I’ve designed. I love using their services to create gardens for my clients. They provide top quality plant material and their crews are knowledgeable and reliable, as well as responsive when we need to make unexpected changes on site.
> Michael Abert is a pleasure to work with and, along with everyone in his company, is detail-oriented and thoughtful. I know when I work with them that the soil preparation will be superior and the plants gorgeous. And when the garden is finished, LPI can and does maintain it in a way that makes my design work shine. I can happily recommend Landscape Projects to anyone who wants a garden they can enjoy and be proud of.

**★★★★★ — Jerri Curtis, March 2017**

> Working with Laura Donahue and this company was a true joy. She listened very carefully about my ideas and the 'feel' I wanted to create. She couldn't have captured it better. I absolutely love all the landscaping and other outdoor creations she suggested. One of my most favorite things to do is sit on my front porch to enjoy the view. The quality of the work from the company was excellent. I would highly recommend Laura and the company she works for without any reservations. She was always transparent with cost. In addition, if something died the first year, the company replaced it.

**★★★★★ — Blueberry Abode, Feb. 2017**

> We are thrilled to have worked with Landscape Projects, Inc. Michael and Laura had the task of designing a garden for our historic 1880's house undergoing a major rebuild, renovation and restoration. The property was so overgrown and had been neglected for many years. The house took over a year to be completed and LPI's patience, organization, vision and execution was spot on in every way. Laura's attention to detail and communication was impressive and she was a dream to work with! Her suggestions for plantings, landscape lighting and hard-scape options made it so easy on us as homeowners to make fast decisions and be thrilled with them!
>
> LPI's landscaping was the frosting on the cake and our property looks incredible. We are looking forward to continuing to work with them in years to come.

**★★★★★ — richard rhodes, Feb. 2017**

> we switched to landscape projects about a year and a half ago from a competitive landscape company we had been using for the past 10 yrs. LPI has brought a fresh, proactive perspective to our maintenance job beyond just maintenance. most importantly, they stand behind their work and there's principal oversight regularly.

**★★★★★ — Sally Mott Freeman, Feb. 2017**

> Thanks to Landscape Projects for their outstanding work and ability to transform our 20+ year old landscape into a sophisticated, elegant and updated landscape that has become the most admired and talked about landscape in the neighborhood. The results far surpassed all of our expectations.
>
> They designed and created a thoughtful, detailed design with specific attention to year round interest. We were impressed that they really listened to our thoughts and needs and interpreted our vision into the overall design.
>
> The installation crews were extremely professional and efficient, and provided excellent implementation work as well. The entire LPI staff was professional and provided excellent customer service, any concerns and questions were addressed in a timely manner.
>
> We love our new landscape and it gives us peace of mind and great pleasure to come home every day to a beautiful, organized, new tranquil landscape.

**★★★★★ — Anne Sullivan, Feb. 2017**

> I was happy to finally connect with landscape designer Laura Donoghue at Landscape Projects, a local landscape design / build company to help create and plan a new intimate patio space and to work with a challenging back yard renovation for my new home.
>
> They were able to access and address not only how to stabilize a severe elevation change, Laura also helped to make use of a difficult grade change area by making it accessible with stone steps leading to a serene garden walk (or soon to be!) for the family and also important, for the family dogs as well.
>
> Laura was a pleasure to work with and offered the time and patience needed to understand my vision and goals and she offered numerous ideas and options to achieve my overall goals. Creating shade and privacy screening were crucial goals for our new patio and deck sitting areas, the results were as beautiful as I had envisioned.
>
> I am more than pleased with my new landscape and would highly recommend working with Laura and LPI for landscape renovations and beautifications.

> Landscape Projects, Inc. is a wonderful landscape installation and garden maintenance firm in the DC area. Everyone on their team -- client representative, plant buyer, installation craftsperson -- is knowledgeable, experienced, and thorough. They are service-oriented and thoughtful, and use horticulturally sound practices. Landscape designers rely on installers to translate our designs into the lovely landscapes that our clients want and need. I can always count on a happy outcome when LPI is involved. I highly recommend them.

**Comment from Landscape Projects, Inc.:**

> Thank you, Cathy! We always love working on your gardens, and appreciate the kind words about our staff and capabilities.

**★★★★★ — Nellie Taft, Sept. 2015**

> Landscape Projects refurbished our property in 2006. The project was a major overhaul correcting major tree loss, drainage problems and soil issues. Thanks to ongoing maintenance by LP we can walk out our back door to complete relaxation in the fresh air or sitting around the fire pit without worrying about weeds, pests, pruning and mowing. Access to very congenial staff couldn't be better. They respect our preferences and enrich our outdoor experience with their know how and enthusiasm.

**★★★★★ — atboyce, Sept. 2015**

> I could not be more delighted with the work of Barbara Montfort and the Landscape Projects team. They originally installed our garden 13 years ago and have maintained it ever since. Each year their talent is more and more evident. As the plantings have matured Barbara's keen eye knows exactly what needs to be done to optimize the beauty and plant health. Sometimes a transplanting, sometimes a cutting back and always the balance restored with natural perfection. The team is responsible, reliable and respectful. The company wide talent and commitment to customer satisfaction is evident year after year. I could not imagine my garden without them!

 - Description: This stunning one-acre garden, within walking distance of downtown Bethesda, was designed and installed by our firm approximately eleven years ago. LPI continues to maintain it today. The owners, devoted gardeners, wanted to utilize as much of the existing plant palette as possible but also to have space for a pond, a cutting garden, and expanses of lawn. The biggest challenge proved to be coping with the prodigious amount of water on site due to an underground spring and drainage issues posed b…

 - Location: Potomac, MD

 - Description: This project began with a major update to landscape immediately surrounding the house. An outdoor living area in the front of the house includes space for dining and conversation around a custom firepit feature. The most recent addition to the landscape is a substantial kitchen garden and potager in a lot adjacent to the house, where the home owners grow vegetables and herbs in raised beds overlooked by a seating area on a hilly rise.

 - Description: This spectacular terraced garden, on a narrow lot in Old Town Alexandria Virginia, was designed by Joan Honeyman of Jordan Honeyman Landscape Architects LLC. It has spaces for outdoor seating and dining, an herb garden, and something in bloom year round. Working within a tight time frame and the need for mature plantings that would make the garden look as if it had always been there, we completed the project on time and earned kudos from the garden owners and landscape architects for our work.
- [Bethesda Residence](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/bethesda-residence-pj-vj~654179)
 - Location: Bethesda, MD
 - Photos: 8
 - Description: This garden, which won major awards from the MC\*DC\*VA Landscape Contractors Association and PLANET, was featured in Landscaping Ideas That Work, by Julie Moir Messervy. We first met our clients when a home renovation project was almost complete. The front of the house had undergone a dramatic facelift with the addition of an extension of the façade and a deep covered porch, and the landscape needed major help. A range of disparate issues faced us: post-construction soil on the site, an existing…

 - Description: Created for a couple moving to a smaller house and lot in order to “down¬-size” after their children had left home, this garden’s design presented many challenges. The wife, an ardent gardener, had a long wish list: a water feature; specific plants (including a river birch, a gingko tree, oakleaf hydrangeas, plants to attract butterflies, and trilliums), fragrance, a small patio, and a potting shed. She also wanted to eliminate grass from any part of the property, and to have space to plant annu…

## Community Q&A

**Q: green carpet question** *(in Photo Questions)*

Hi-love these steps...wondering, what is the low lying “green carpet” plant around the stones, please? Thank you!

A: The groundcover is called Mazus reptans - it has little blue flowers in the spring!

**Q: What Are the Names of the three trees.** *(in Photo Questions)*

I love these lacy looking trees, according to the details, there is a river birch, ginkgo, and what's the third, if I am correct.

A: The ginkgo tree actually isn’t visible in this photo. What you see are the river birch, a narrow evergreen arborvitae, and two hornbeam trees, which are what we think you are describing as the “lacy-looking” trees. They are deciduous and the ones here are a variety called ‘Fastigiata,’ meaning they will stay narrow in shape.

**Q: Source of Primroses** *(in Photo Questions)*

I love the primroses. Do you know where I can buy these plants?
Thank you.

A: We sourced ours when this photo was taken from a wholesale supplier, but you could check with American Plant; they often have unusual perennials. Ask for them in the "shade" perennials section, and good luck!
