**★★★★★ — Bauscher Construction & Remodeling, Inc., May 2017**

> I've worked with the Drawing Dept on a number of projects and have been delighted to find them to be professional, caring, and collaborative. They listen attentively to the needs of the homeowner and communicate clearly and effectively with our construction team. They see the big picture while also designing to the smallest detail to ensure the idea is also feasible. I recommend them without hesitation.

**★★★★★ — sjwaltz, Dec. 2015**

> Drawing Department has an amazing ability to translate ideas and hopes into practical AND beautiful living spaces. Our kitchen and adjacent mudroom was designed to accommodate the way a family of six truly lives. Each well planned detail functions in its own way to make daily living so much easier and more convenient. In addition, every time we walk into the space, we feel relaxed and happy--it is gorgeous. We couldn't be happier to recommend this team who listens carefully and uses innovative creativity to bring client design ideas to life.

**★★★★★ — Casey Moothart, Dec. 2015**

> Drawing Dept designed our dream home for us! They came up with a beautiful and very energy efficient design that incorporated all of our modern sensibilities. Now our home is the talk of our neighborhood!
>
> We could not be happier with the work that Evonne Morales did for us. She was professional, always available, receptive to our ideas and always followed through. She easily met every deadline. We feel so lucky to have shared this accomplishment with her!

> I can't say enough about working with the drawing dept team on our kitchen remodel! They took what were our initial sketchy thoughts and turned them into something amazing. We were trying to keep the original spirit of the home but bring the kitchen into the 21st century. They totally got the concept and took it beyond what we ever imagined.
> Besides the architectural aspect, they brought ideas to round out the fit and finish as well. As mentioned in other reviews, their attention to detail is second to none.
> I hope we get an opportunity to work with them again.

**★★★★★ — eburge1, Feb. 2014**

> We had an awesome experience with The Drawing Dept. We worked with them for about a year and half on a pretty major whole house renovation. They listened to what we needed, wanted, and wished for and brought it all together to help us create our dream! They are very thorough and thought of every detail. They definitely went beyond just drawing us floor plans-- they helped us make selections when we needed some guidance, answered interior design questions, and advised on colors when we just weren't sure. All to help us keep our vision on track. Very helpful, knowledgeable, and easy to work with. We loved the friendly atmosphere and team work approach they took with our project. I'm so glad we won't be renovating again any time soon, but if we were I would go directly to The Drawing Dept.

**★★★★★ — RVP Photography, Feb. 2014**

> Over the past few months, I've had the pleasure of photographing & documenting the architectural design mastery of the Drawing Dept. With focus on residential & commercial projects several threads run common through both: creativity, attention to detail & just plain WOW factor. It's really no surprise that this relatively young firm has racked up so many awards & acknowledgments.

**★★★★ — modernhom, Oct. 2013**

> After interviewing four different architectural firms, we selected Drawing Dept because of their approach and philosophy for working with clients. The team worked hard to understand our vision and deliver a home design that was everything we were looking for and more. We were living in a different city during the beginning of the process and the team was great at working with our schedule and tailoring their approach for our style. Throughout the process, they were diligent about making sure the project was on track and coaching us through the first time building process.

**★★★★★ — Flourish - Landscape Design Build, July 2013**

> I worked briefly with Kevin at the Drawing Department for a client where I was providing landscape design. I enjoyed his sincerity and passion for the design process. He was also highly organized in his communications and project management.

**★★★★★ — jw1500, Jan. 2013**

> Drawing department redesigned our kitchen in 2011. Evonne Morales did a fantastic job listening to our needs. She designed a functional, beautiful space. I highly recommend!

**★★★★★ — magerner, Oct. 2012**

> I hired Drawing Dept. for what turned out to be a five year custom home building project. Throughout that time we enjoyed a highly collaborative experience and I was impressed continually with their creative genius, personal service, integrity and ability to listen to the client and really hear our family's specific needs and quirks. My vision became their vision, not the other way around. At Drawing Dept. you will never find a cookie-cutter approach; your project is always special and unique. Our dream house really is better than we ever could have imagined. We love it more everyday. It is the perfect marriage of form and function. I would never engage any other architectural firm but Drawing Dept.

**★★★★★ — targetbarb, Oct. 2012**

> My kitchen/ first floor renovation was an amazing process with Drawing Dept. They showed an uncanny ability to transform my vaguely expressed needs and wants into a beautiful design that transcended anything I could have imagined. My architect willingly offered assistance with any decision no matter how small, including interior design, fixtures, and furniture. I LOVE my new space! It's now been one year since completion, and I still have not found anything I would do differently in hind sight. Thanks, Drawing Dept.!

**★★★★★ — darooster, Jan. 2012**

> Drawing Dept designed our award-winning screened porch and our renovated kitchen (hopefully soon to be award-winning as well!). They did an amazing job. They are the best shop in town for modern architectural design.

## Selected projects

- [Dogtrot Residence](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/dogtrot-residence-pj-vj~6676781)
  - Location: Fort Thomas, KY
  - Photos: 37
  - Description: The main living spaces are on the upper level of the two-story home. Bedrooms and private spaces are on the lower level, with walk-out access to the private backyard. An open bookcase and "floating" stair connect the two levels of the house, as does the double-volume master bathroom shower. Two parallel masonry walls define the linear plan. The uphill wall facing the street is sparsely punctured to ensure privacy. The south-facing downhill wall has many windows to provide outdoor living access,…

  - Description: It happened again. What would otherwise have been a routine repair and maintenance project, escalated quickly into a design opportunity. Such is the fate of an architect-owned home. Hastened by a pair of leaky doors, a broken refrigerator, two rotted windows, and an unruly squirrel infestation, this project’s time had come. Notwithstanding, or more likely because of, budget constraints, the architect arrived at a limited palette of materials and ‘moves’ that would promote multiple agendas – crea…
- [Lookout House](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/lookout-house-pj-vj~5381932)
  - Location: Cincinnati, OH
  - Photos: 25
  - Description: Amidst a neighborhood of large, traditional homes, this house lacked any special character or identity. A history of addition, modification, and ‘updates’ achieved nothing more than a conventional suburban home with mid-century aspirations. A young family saw potential. The family suspected that previous additions had been unsuccessful because they were not bold enough. The most recent addition, an over-large shed roof section, was neither practical nor useful to the family, to say nothing of it…

- [Edgecliff Point Kitchen](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/edgecliff-point-kitchen-pj-vj~2681985)
  - Location: Cincinnati, OH
  - Photos: 25
  - Description: The owners of this existing high-rise condominium unit sought to develop a new, modern kitchen. The existing kitchen space was a small interior “alcove” that was removed from the view and suffered from a shortage of daylight. Construction parameters did not allow for the removal of existing structure, shafts, or plumbing and the owners did not want to move or alter any interior walls. The design strategy for the new kitchen included matte-white custom casework to brighten the space. Rigor was ap…
- [Edgecliff Point Bathroom](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/edgecliff-point-bathroom-pj-vj~2682028)
  - Location: Cincinnati, OH
  - Photos: 9
  - Description: The scope of this project was the straightforward remodeling of an existing master bathroom. Due to the fact that the bathroom was located within an existing condominium, no walls could be reconfigured and no drains could be relocated. As a result of these parameters, a simple and effective strategy was adopted that included the construction of a new non-bearing frame wall in front of the existing wall at the vanity. This allowed for much-needed flexibility in plumbing supply and waste locations…
- [A Mid-Century Remodel](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/a-mid-century-remodel-pj-vj~757757)
  - Location: Not specified
  - Photos: 31
  - Description: This mid-century house was designed in 1952 by noted modernist architect, Carl Strauss. Nestled into a wooded hillside, the existing house survived while adjacent homes were demolished to make space for large mansions in this desirable neighborhood. Its greatest asset lay tucked behind the front door, where panoramic views of the city and river unfolded to the unsuspecting visitor. Over time the house suffered an insensitive addition, poorly executed 'improvements' and over 60 years of exposure…

  - Description: http://www.houzz.com/ideabooks/76184551/list/houzz-tour-a-saarinen-inspired-home-rises-in-cincinnati This home for a young family is located on an infill lot in one of Cincinnati's older neighborhoods. One homeowner was particularly concerned with the technical aspects of the project relating to energy efficiency, including passive and active solar technology, while the other owner had distinct aesthetic preferences, desiring that the house feel “low-slung” and unimposing. These criteria were pa…
- [Savage Kitchen](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/savage-kitchen-pj-vj~1383461)
  - Location: Cincinnati, OH
  - Photos: 15
  - Description: Designed in 1967 by Cincinnati architect Richard Savage, the house presented many features worth celebrating and preserving: a ship-like vaulted wooden ceiling, large expanses of floor-to-ceiling glass, ceiling-hung cabinetry and custom architectural light fixtures. The design ethos of the kitchen renovation, while not strictly preservationist, honors and enhances the existing architecture. By removing the partial-height wall that originally separated the kitchen, the entirety of the space is re…
- [Remington Residence](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/remington-residence-pj-vj~1995884)
  - Location: Cincinnati, OH
  - Photos: 31
  - Description: The Remington Residence is located on a tight infill lot in an established suburb. The owners, transplants from the South, wanted a 21st century regional farmhouse – including the commensurate wood porch and swing that makes a house a home. Owing to an unconventional site that includes the adjacent properties’ side, front and rear yards, a strategy was developed to extend the house along the property lines in order to create a cloistered effect. The result is a thin ‘C’ shaped plan that features…
- [Belfast Residence](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/belfast-residence-pj-vj~363041)
  - Location: Cincinnati, OH
  - Photos: 39
  - Description: The Belfast Residence is a new, modern house situated on a 150-acre farm. This abundance of land affords a single level plan generated by a series of overlapping programmatic bars; but it also created a place-less and scale-less condition. The challenge was to create a house that felt rooted and intimate both inside and outside. The development of the exterior spaces was critical in the creation of a transitive scale between the relatively small rooms of the house and the expansive site. The mas…
- [Twin Ridge Residence](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/twin-ridge-residence-pj-vj~2707725)
  - Location: Not specified
  - Photos: 15
  - Description: This project was for an attorney and an artist, and their eclectic art collection. The client’s love of nature attracted them to this site, in spite of the uninspired existing house. The design focuses on elevating the level of design while increasing views to the beautiful surroundings. These goals were achieved without an addition and with limited changes to the shell of the home. The existing builder-grade home was an amalgamation of dark, marginalized rooms. The kitchen, buried in the shadow…
- [Shawnee Porch & Kitchen](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/shawnee-porch-and-kitchen-pj-vj~2030554)
  - Location: Cincinnati, OH
  - Photos: 12
  - Description: The focus of this remodel was better access from the kitchen to the rear yard, with a new covered porch for entertainment. An undulating back yard with severe cross slope and drainage problems prompted the development of an earthen plinth on which the new porch would float exactly thirty inches above the grade, allowing the porch to forgo railings. The thin cantilevered structure lends to a cinematic experience. The cropped views bring the textured foliage into focus and extend the long horizont…
- [Concert:House](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/concerthouse-pj-vj~2049107)
  - Location: Not specified
  - Photos: 11
  - Description: The heart of this renovation project is an existing oversized great room which the owners, symphony musicians, envisioned as a performance space. The existing compartmentalized first-floor plan was reconfigured to create an open and modern plan. A series of carefully composed small additions, clad in black, contain a new entry and stair, a second floor master suite, and a pair of kids’ bedrooms. The new open floor plan, featuring the renovated great room, is now used for various musical performa…
- [Kenwood Kitchen and Mudroom](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/kenwood-kitchen-and-mudroom-pj-vj~1456575)
  - Location: Cincinnati, OH
  - Photos: 11
  - Description: The layout of this existing home, a series of small rooms awkwardly lining a circulation path, was working against this family of six. The owners desired a more open plan with a large eat-in kitchen and family room. Instead of adding additional square feet to this large house, the design solution focused on opportunities within the shell. Existing walls were removed and reconfigured to create a new family entry from the garage and backyard while leaving existing formal entry hall intact. An exis…

  - Description: 2012 Best in Show: Cincinnati CRAN Awards This suburban house was composed of a series of small rooms arranged in a manner befitting a different era. By combining the small, introverted kitchen with the adjacent dining room (previously separated by a glass block wall), the renovation produced a communal space suitable for preparing, eating and conversing, with the kitchen serving as a stage. The long, linear strips of cabinetry were generated by a need for culinary efficiency, while the island p…
- [Leathers Residence](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/leathers-residence-pj-vj~101568)
  - Location: Fort Mitchell, KY
  - Photos: 16
  - Description: 2012 Outdoor Living Award: Cincinnati Design Awards This project wrestles with the responsibility of designing a new house in an established neighborhood. The architecture of the house is unabashedly eclectic; eschewing any strict ‘style.’ Instead of referencing tired residential types or periods, the design embodies a spirit of construction and craftsmanship of a past age. The house is not made to look ‘old’, but is designed and built with a commitment that results in a historic aesthetic witho…
