I'm deeply committed to retaining the historic nature of this 1908 craftsman home. Every part of the work, from the masonry, to the hardscape creation, to the plant selection and more was absolutely fantastic. I'm more than satisfied. Highly recommended. As of today (3/1/2015) the garden is just planted, so it's a few months away from experiencing the color and fragrance of the cottage garden that's been created. My question is the up lights are low voltage and look great but when there is no fire and no lanterns, at night the fireplace looks like a black hole! The fireplace is a focus point centered directly out of our family room. We have an LED strip light under the mantel but it has to be turned on and even then it is to bright. What would you suggest to help light up the fireplace? A: That sounds like a challenge. I think if you put some type of seasonal decoration or other focal element in the fire box and add a small spotlight on it, that might work. Or you might consider having a gas line installed for a flick of the switch availability of fire. **Q: Are these corner pillars columnar basalt? Where can you buy those?** *(in Photo Questions)* A: Yes they are. They are available at most rock yards in the Pacific Northwest. Ask for bronze columns.
