After placing the order, Lux Lighting increased the price to $949. Instead of doing what every other retailer would do, honor the order which was waiting on for an installer, they canceled it. I only discovered this because I used the chat feature on Houzz to check on the status. the response "Thank you for your feedback. We will be looking into this and update if warranted." The house is unique and I really had no idea what kind of lighting to use, especially on the outside. Most lighting places just want to sell you lights, so you don't really get a good "objective" design. I found Lux Lighting online and corresponded with Doreen, and they were exactly what I wanted. They provided a detailed design of what lights to put where, including the electrical schematics, switch locations, types of lights they recommended (by part number and brand), etc. With that info I could complete the wiring and compare prices for the lights from different vendors. The exterior up-lighting and down-lighting was totally different than anything I had done in the past, but I installed it as designed and it turned out great (see attached picture of partially completed exterior, before the stone and siding were installed. I'll try to update later with stone and siding installed). Very nice accent lighting, but not overdone. I'm still installing the interior, but with 18' tall vaulted ceilings Doreen has specified multiple recessed lights in specific locations; I would have had no idea where (or how many) to install them otherwise. > Overall I have been very pleased with LLD, and much prefer paying for a design vs having someone sell me lights. Just need to know if you can turn the power on the mirror or if you have to install a wall switch? A: Typically they need a wall switch or dimmer. Be sure you get the specs on it to make sure that you get the proper dimmer type required. There are some available that work with a remote control. It is roughly 300 sq ft, but opens to dining area. The ceilings are 9ft high. We really liked a Fanimation fan but it is 56 inches and we are worried that is too big. Any advice on size and color? Not a huge fan of white but it would blend in...would black be too dominating in the space?? A: The first thing you see in a room that has a ceiling fan, is the ceiling fan. So it is important that it be the right size and color. White with white 9ft ceilings would be a good choice. Without a light, it will be even more unobtrusive. I think you should stay within 48-50 inches in diameter. The room looks like it is about 12'-13' wide. **Q: Living Room Color Palette** *(in Design Dilemma)* I am trying to spruce up my living room with paint, art, and accessories. Everything feels beige and blah. Unfortunately, I have to keep the couch until our kids and puppy grow up a bit. Any recommendations? My taste lean towards traditional and scandinavan design. (There are paint swatches on the wall) A: As added accent, pillows, wall hangings, replace art to add color, and add accent rugs. Right now you have a very monotone palette with rose/beige undertones.
