After a successful career in Human Resources, I wanted to move into a field that better utilized my creative abilities. Once I started taking Interior Design courses at Harrington College of Design I knew I had found my niche.

After graduating in 2006, I worked for two well-regarded residential design firms. Using the skills I gained there, I started my own firm, Susan Rayner Interiors.

My aesthetic is clean and classic, whether the style is modern, traditional or somewhere in between. I am passionate about creating positive change for my clients.

I have a friendly, collaborative approach that allows my clients to enjoy the design process. This ensures they will love the end result – a house they enjoy coming home to.

> Susan worked with me to redecorate my living room including shades, new furniture and art work. She had many good ideas and gave me many options in different price ranges. She had contacts and experience working with local craftspeople for furniture and art work. As a result I have three tables that were locally made or refinished and some local art work. She was easy to work with and flexible with my schedule that included a lot of work travel interrupting the redecorating process. Now my living room has a whole new feel which is comfortable and welcoming for me and my family.

  - Description: City living often means narrow lots which leads to narrow houses and narrow rooms. That was the challenge in this Chicago two-flat living room. But narrow doesn't have to mean non-functional, as this room proves. It's still possible to have seating for 5 - 6, a television, books and a pottery collection - everything a homeowner needs to relax in comfort or entertain. And, oh yes, a wall full of art, a must-have for every room.

The peninsula was moved out and extended to give more circulation space for two cooks while the wood floor was replaced with porcelain tile to provide more durability. This suburban Chicago townhome achieved the contrast through a deep chocolate brown quartz countertop with maple veining and gray/taupe walls.
