> Dave and his team did the timber work & SIPS panel installation on my new build lake house. It turned out better than I could have imagined. The team at Kettle River Timberworks were great to work with every step of the way. My builder commented many times how great their crew was to work with.

> Thanks Anne! It's going to be a spectacular house! Your view is killer. Kudos to your architect Peter Rose https://www.prai.ca/ and to you amazing builder Rick Mettler Construction https://mettlerconstruction.ca/

> Working with David, Michael and Angela on our timber roof project in Whistler was a terrific experience. Their customer service and attention to detail is second to none. The finished product is perfection and I'm still amazed on how they can fabricate these massive timbers with such precision. I highly recommend Kettle River Timberworks and I look forward to having them do my next project.

**★★★★★ — Andrew Handford, Nov. 2018**

> We engaged Kettle River to do the design and installation of a complete timber roof structure as well as numerous architectural details including staircase, mantle and exterior portico. They worked seamlessly with our architect and builder throughout the project and are responsible for making the look and feel of our home truly special. Their work was creative and striking throughout and is noted and commented on by every visitor to our home, Kettle River was on time and on budget with every aspect of the project, was flexible in making changes and additions and were easy to work with. We really can't say enough good about working with KRTW.

> Hi Andy,
>
> Thanks for the thoughtful review. The Kettle River team really enjoyed building for you and your family. Beautiful house you've built!

**★★★★★ — cathyb1956, Jan. 2018**

> Kettle River Timberworks designed and constructed our home and it is exceptional. David and his crew were amazing and very professional. They worked with our contractor perfectly and our project came off without a hitch. Andrew, Davids designer, did a wonderful.job and our home is such a pleasure to live in. We could not be more pleased or impressed with this company and its employees and would recommend them to anyone who is looking for a Timeframe company.

**★★★★★ — Vic Marchiel, Jan. 2018**

> Love the timber work in our new house. It's what really set our new home apart. Great quality and elegant look. A look you could only get from Kettle River!

**★★★★★ — windancer67, Jan. 2018**

> My experience with Dave and his crew were outstanding. They did a great job designing, building and installing my timberframe. They were extremely professional and worked hard resolving any issues that came up and coordinating with other companies involved with the house build. I highly recommend using them for your timberframe project

**★★★★★ — Shane McKinney, Dec. 2015**

> Now that our build project is nearing completion we are even more appreciative of the experience we had with Kettle River Timberworks. With doing the build through the winter months it was amazing how they delivered on time and got us closed in just as the snow was falling. David and his crew exceeded our expectations and we highly recommend Kettle River Timberworks.

**★★★★★ — divasx3, Dec. 2014**

> We loved the look of timber frame but were working with a budget on our new cabin. Kettle River ("KR") worked with our budget and had no objections to us doing all the pre-work by ourselves. We had a one week delay that was not related to KR and they were accommodating to our timetable. The quality of the timber frames was outstanding. Dave went out of his way to assist us in providing the pine materials we wanted for our ceiling even though this is not normally a product he deals with. KR gave us great recommendations to keep the price down and even lent us tools after they were gone to assist us in finishing our construction. The installation of the timber frame was seamless despite the pouring rain and Dave & Matthew were a pleasure to work with.
>
> We have a second phase to our project (side porch and entrance) and we look forward to working with them again.
>
> We would highly recommend this company.

**★★★★★ — gregglangley, Dec. 2014**

> Dave provided excellent consultation in our hybrid renovation, with great ideas for the external look, and how to incorporate timber frame in our large internal space. The timber frame design flowed seamlessly from the front door, all the way through the great room, kitchen, dining room and right out on to the back deck. Dave's crew was meticulous in installation, professional, friendly, and efficient. The timbers and T&G panelling are top quality. We receive compliments from all who visit our home!

**★★★★★ — tac44, Dec. 2014**

> KRTW supplied the frame for our 1600 sqft hybrid home in northern Saskatchewan. My only regret about dealing with Kettle River is that I didn't get them involved sooner in the planning stage. Architects are great, but they aren't timber framers. No pressure sales with Dave, just practical, honest advice. The workmanship was of the highest quality - I would not hesitate to recommend Dave and his team to anyone looking to build anything timber frame.

**★★★★★ — redtree1, Dec. 2014**

> I have hired Kettle River Timberframe for two separate projects, on Salt Spring Island The first was a tradional timberframe cottage that very much satisfied our needs at that time.
> The second more recent project is a contemperary modern home with exposed timber trusses that span the width of the entire house.
> Not only are the trusses structurally superb they have a simple elegance that is noticed by all that enter our home.
>
> Dave was professional and his crew were excellent they were on schedule despite some unpredictable weather challenges. Kettle River will be my first choice for any future projects

**★★★★★ — handyman2912, Dec. 2014**

> Kettle River Timberworks undertook the design, creation, and installation of the timberframe in my hybrid timberframe home. They did an outstanding job and we are extremely pleased with the result. They were, at all times, responsive, helpful and provided timely and pertinent advice. They worked well with my General Contractor, and in fact Kettle River Timberworks, identified an major error in the roof plans that the house designer had made, and the General Contractor had missed. Their integrity was clearly demonstrated when they stuck to their estimate even when they had to absorb unanticipated additional crane rental costs. I cannot recommend them highly enough.

- [Grand Mountain Lodge](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/grand-mountain-lodge-pj-vj~5469284)
  - Location: Whistler, BC
  - Photos: 36
  - Description: Our clients for this grand mountain lodge wanted the warmth and solidness of timber to contrast many of the contemporary steel, glass and stone architecture more prevalent in the area recently. A desire for timberwork with ‘GRRRR’ equipped to handle the massive snowloads in this location, ensured that the timbers were fit to scale this awe-inspiring 8700sq ft residence. Working with Peter Rose Architecture + Interiors Inc., we came up with unique designs for the timberwork to be highlighted thro…
- [Hip Beach House](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/hip-beach-house-pj-vj~2896549)
  - Location: Not specified
  - Photos: 16
  - Description: The roofline on this project was one of the most complicated ones we've ever taken on. The array of roof valleys and hips make the timber frame a perfect 'lid' for this exquisite beach house. The designers and builders attention to details, ensuring that timber details align with trim details and window layout really payed off on the end result. The client, an engineer retired from a successful career in the timber business, was most particular about the wood work, resulting in a home that reall…

  - Location: Bowen Island, BC
  - Photos: 16
  - Description: This stunning custom home on Bowen Island was a labor of love for the team at KRTW. From the rolling entrance roofline, to the symmetrical exposed interior rafters, not one piece a like. Working with a custom metalwork team from the roller coaster industry, and an intense amount of 3-d modeling, we were able to make this dream home into a reality. - Location: Whistler, BC
  - Photos: 12
  - Description: This spectacular mountain home uses the warmth of Douglas fir's natural colour to provide light and depth throughout. By exposing glulam beams, joists, and fir tongue and groove ceiling and soffit it achieves the clean lines and beautiful contemporary open space we want in a coast mountain home, while still remaining inviting and warm. A pleasure to be involved with this project. GC: Vision Pacific Architecture: Brigitte Loranger Architecture and Planning Ltd.

  - Description: We got the privilege to handle the timber package for the personal home of a superb builder on the Sunshine Coast who we've worked together on several previous projects. Brian's attention to detail and clever mix of wood craftsmanship with contemporary styling made this project a real pleasure to be involved with. The mix of timber, glass, steel and concrete makes for a visually stimulating but warm space.

  - Location: Not specified
  - Photos: 12
  - Description: Anyone having the fortune to visit this remote island home would be amazed by the full amenities and creature comforts incorporated into this home. The large covered porch provides plenty of shelter at this often rainy location but still lets in plenty of natural light. The timber frame is a hybrid approach with timberwork concentrated in the common spaces and private spaces (bedrooms, bathrooms, utility) are conventionally framed. Because of the remove location, erection of the timber frame was…
- [West Coast Ranch](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/west-coast-ranch-pj-vj~1423457)
  - Location: Not specified
  - Photos: 10
  - Description: Timbers for this Bill Daniels designed home were textured with a chainsaw and stained to provide an aged, rustic look. Covered entry, porches and walkways provide lots of sheltered spaces to gather during inclement weather or retreat from the summer sun. Clustered posts keep timberwork in scale with the large home. Curves timbers on the entry were milled from large solid timbers.
- [Textured Timber Home](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/textured-timber-home-pj-vj~1423484)
  - Location: Not specified
  - Photos: 5
  - Description: Large timbers, dark stain and a rustic texture give this home a delightful curb appeal. Timberwork on the back decks consisted of ‘timber wraps’ instead of solid timbers around structural posts and non-structural elements that were installed after the roof was in place. This allowed the timberwork to be installed at a late stage in the project.
- [Shaughnessy Tudor](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/shaughnessy-tudor-pj-vj~1423492)

  - Description: Kettle River detailed and supplied all the exterior timberwork (brackets, posts, railings and corbels) for this 11,000 sq. ft. Tudor mansion. 3D modeling and CNC machining facilitated pre-fabrication of all the intricate components. Expectations for wood quality and workmanship on this $26 million home was very demanding. All timbers were radio-frequency dried to ensure dimensional stability. Photo Credit: Dom Koric

Kettle River Timberworks provided detail design, consultation, fabrication and engineering of all the timberwork working closely with Peter Rose Architects and general contractor Ray Dean. ## Community Q&A

**Q: hi who makes the outdoor ceiling heaters? Do they provide enough heat** *(in Photo Questions)*

Do they provide enough heat in the winter, spring and fall?

A: Not sure. We did the timberwork.

**Q: Stone** *(in Photo Questions)*

Can you please share details regarding the stone used in/on this residence? Thank you!

A: Sorry. We did the timberwork. Not the stonework.

**Q: What kind of wood did you use for the ceiling? Pine?** *(in Photo Questions)*

A: Douglas Fir.

**Q: What is the cost per square foot to build this home USD?** *(in Photo Questions)*

Love your designs...thinking about building a similar home on Orcas Island.

A: Hard to say as this project was on a remote island in Canada with all the supplies choppered to the site. It's 1000 sq. ft. Small projects inevitably have high per square costs. On a more friendly site (ie: road and crane accessible) I would reckon construction costs in the $500US/sq ft range.

**Q: love the table** *(in Photo Questions)*

How would I achieve this colour ?

A: Table is from restoration hardware. Not sure what the treatment is

**Q: I love this. What is the size of the living room, please? Thanks!** *(in Photo Questions)*

A: Thanks! Living space excluding the kitchen and dining area is 312 sq.ft.
