## Community Q&A

**Q: What is countertop material** *(in Photo Questions)*

A: Silesone Merope Suede Leather finish. It has a rich deep Maroon tone, with a hit of purple and green.

**Q: Closet Cabinets in Photo** *(in Photo Questions)*

What are the dimensions of the cabinets (1) above the frig; and (2) to the left of the frig

A: Since we had the space and our homeowner wanted a more "built-in" look to the refrigerator, we pulled standard cabinets forward and used deeper panels to cover the gap. The tall cabinet is a 15" wide, 96" tall, 24" deep pantry cabinet and the cabinet above the refrigerator is 36" wide, 24" tall and 24" deep. After pulling these pieces forward, our new depth was 30". Again, there was a gap behind the standard 24" base cabinets, but it created a 30" deep countertop which is great for food prep.

**Q: Help to finish decor** *(in Design Dilemma)*

Help with decorating are this the right curtains ,pillows ,what chair should I add

A: Your have a great foundation of neutrals. You might want to now add the zing. For a chair, look for a clean line, simple piece, not too fluffy, in the colors of your part work, the burnt orange or red. For your curtains, maybe an accent "scarf" the reds as well, or picking up the stripes of your pillow. A patterned rug under your coffee table would add some pop as well.

**Q: Need help with my fireplace** *(in Design Dilemma)*

We're renovating a family home, circa 1938. I love the 'art deco' look of the fireplace, but not the color of the brick or the mantel or rather lack there of (it's a slate slab). I've considered staining the brick a darker color (grey) and laying a new hearth in slate. Still not sure of style of mantel.

A: If you want the art deco look, I like the idea of a consistent color brick, maybe in a grey. For the mantel, I would go with a more traditional art deco mantel like the ones on this website http://www.c20fireplaces.co.uk/ and then on the three groups of vertical bricks, install something like this http://www.tiledecorative.com/art-deco-tiles.html

**Q: Help! Too much oak, bland tile and corian. I have to keep the tile.** *(in Design Dilemma)*

What can I do with my cabinets, island, and color scheme? It'd be much easier if I could have different flooring, but I don't have that option. Any opinions would be much appreciated. Thanks!

A: Geez, I should read what I type, that's buying wrapping paper.....LOL

**Q: How does this family room look?** *(in Design Dilemma)*

Hi houzzers! It's taken me awhile to get this room to this point but I still feel like there is something missing. How does it look? Do the pillows look ok even though they pull brown blue and cream while rug has gold undertones? Also what kind of chandelier would you hang? how about curtains or accessories? Thanks so much!

A: I kind of like the idea of turning the rug diagonal to the sectional. It would take the squareness out of the space. Your pillows are great. You may try to find two that have just the blue with the gold to add a touch of the gold in. I think repainting the fireplace hearth is a great idea, but don't go too dark. Very dark colors show just as much dirt and scratches as very light colors do. Your drapes kind of disappear into the surrounding wall. Consider putting a blue or chocolate strip down the two sides. Iron on or stick a piece of ribbon?
Your room is really pretty. Relaxed and the blues have a calming affect.
