We love our house, our neighborhood, and with the housing market being insane, we decided to take the plunge into an addition and complete kitchen remodel. From day 1, the Calyx team has been professional, fair and personable. Of course with COVID and inflation, pricing has increased, which was not their fault. Being without a kitchen for a few months was difficult with 2 kids and a big dog, but we made do - and the team was very aware of our situation - keeping the "inconvenience time" as low as possible. In the end, we did more than expected - a brand new kitchen, a 600 sq ft addition with fireplace, and a new roof and gutters. To accommodate our inconvenience, a Porta John was supplied (not a terrible ordeal).The original projection of completion was six weeks but our project mgr, Steve, was able to coordinate his teams to reduce completion to three weeks. He was awesome. If we had a question or concern, all we had to do was text him. He would respond within 10 minutes… Every time. The workers Calyx employs work clean, respectfully, pleasant, considerate, professional, and most of all…just really good at what they do. Our job came out beautiful. So happy we went with Calyx. The original project manager. George Jr was rude, unresponsive and extremely unprofessional. After demo was completed, they wanted to charge us $15000.00 for a structural engineer and additional fees for more demo. We have subsequently hired a new contractor, secured a structural engineer for $1200.00 and solved all our issues without additional monies. Word to the wise, stay away. Not interested in solving problems, just charging more $$. We fired them....awful experience and we wasted 6 months with these guys. **★★★★★ — W. As soon as I hired them the "adjusted" the price up by 8K. Communication with them was poor. So many days and weeks when nobody showed. Oil stains in my driveway. Siding that fell off the house. Poor job installing vinyl shake shingles. Electrical outlets not working. Best of all the shower has been leaking since day one. So much so, the water is seeping thru the foundation. They have been promising to fix it for over a month. > They should have fixed it when first reported. Now they laid off 1/2 the co. I'll have to hire a plumber! **Comment from Calyx Builds:** > We apologize for what could have been a better experience. The cost increased because the client picked out more expensive products including a new shower system, instead of what we had specified. The leaky shower was derived by the new product selected by the client. We had never installed this type of product before as it was brand new to the market. We installed it per manufacturer's specs, however a leak presented itself about 2 months after we closed the job. The client reached out to us right before the COVID pandemic placed everyone on quarantine, so we had to close for some time while everything was being sorted out. Once it was safe to resume work, we sent out a crew to remediate the issue with the system. We also had offered to replace the unit with a full custom tile shower (something that we are very experienced in installing) which is more expensive, as compensation for the issue with the leak, but the client turned it down. Our house is over 30 years old and our cabinets, floor covering, counters, fixtures, and appliances were very dated. After discussions with Bob and Lauren at Calyx, along with a designer from another local business, we decided to replace our linoleum floor with tile, our laminate countertops with quartz, our light fixtures with recessed lighting and a new hanging unit, our wall space with a tiled backsplash, and our old-but-weathered cabinets with mid-range cabinetry. We also decided to tear down a small floor-to-celing pantry space to open up the kitchen for newer applicances and to redo the bathroom with a new toilet and vanity. Calyx's workmen and subs then came in and completed the project with a high degree of skill and expertise. Bob and Lauren were involved and attentive to the project as it progessed as well as were largely responsive with respect to our inquiries, minor changes, and occasional complaints. Their workmen were polite and respectful, in general, and seemed to be committed to doing a good job. Of course, as is normally the case with every major remodeling project, there were a couple of hiccups: the project took a number of weeks longer to complete than we had expected and we also had to deal with an unanticipated plumbing problem and an unexpected electrical power outage that probably could have been avoided with better planning or scheduling. Nevertheless, once the project was completed, my husband and I were very impressed and satisfied with the results. Our kitchen and bathroom are now beautiful and we are able to enjoy our remodeled rooms to the fullest. The Calyx people are down-to-earth, very friendly, and extremely professional in their approach and we would certainly consider using them again for any future home projects. The subcontractors they hired were clearly unqualified. They installed al of the trim using nail guns with standard interior nails. this is clearly unacceptable for exterior trim. When I told Bob he made limited effort to fix the problem and it is still not completed properly. His crew also did a terrible job fixing our siding. There were nails missing everywhere and they had to come back three times to fix the same mistakes. i got to the point I just fixed it myself. I recently had to replace the new wood flooring installed by calyx in our new addition. The floor warped due to the new addition door, ,installed by calyx, leaked. I contacted Bob to resolve the problem and he ignored my calls, emails and texts. When i went to the manufacturer of the door (Harveys) they were very helpful and upon inspection told me the door was installed improperly 9I have this in writing) and several steps in the install manual were not followed. i reached out to bob numerous times with no response. Bob boasts of customer service. It is easy when things go well but the real test is when it does not. Bob does what is best for Bob and not the customer. He takes the easy route to try to fix problems and when it becomes difficult he ignores you. I have a lot of construction knowledge and have written documentation to back up all my claims.
