**Q: How to get rid of ugly red-dyed mulch** *(in Design Dilemma)*

We bought a house with ugly red dyed bark strewn everywhere.  It's an eye sore and I'm a very inexperienced gardener.  How do I get rid of the bark - do I just cover it with another type of much or do I need to rake it up and remove it first? Any suggestions as to what to replace it with?

A: You're right, red mulch is ugly / tacky / old person-ish... It's similar to painting your house gold. Yuck! Red mulch will not turn brown over time. It needs to be raked up and removed, or apply a thick 3-4" layer on top..
