> They are HORRIBLE! They don’t care at all about you once you sign on the dotted line. Very poor workmanship. Tons of issues they just blow off. Communication is horrible nothing but excuses. Run don’t walk

**★ — Matthew Walter, Feb. 2023**

> Oyvind Solvang represented that the laterals were installed to the lot of which I executed an offer to purchase. When the excavator and plumber were installing the laterals to the house the sewer lateral could not be located. I was then informed Hillcrest Builders in fact knew the lateral was not installed. 4 months later, the lateral is still not installed causing significant delays in the construction of my home.

> Do not build a condo with Hillcrest. We did and this is definitely not what condo living should be like.
> Living here is more like "DO it Yourself Condo Living" because they don't respond to anyone. We have had to buy our own mulch and spread, seed and fertilizer.
> We have had to replace the already dead bushes they planted late in the fall.
> They do not give you a quarterly statement as to where your condo fees go and the balance in there.
> We sold all our lawn equipment when we moved here and had to go out and replace most of it. We do our own trimming of grass and bushes. We do our own leaf blowing.
> We have to clean out our own gutters.
> They don't do anything but ignore you!!!!!

**★ — Jay Yang, July 2021**

> Do not build with them. The project manager suppose to update you every two weeks but they never do. You have to call or email them.Take forever to return ur call or email; about 6 weeks.

**★★ — Marie, Sept. 2020**

> Here are some key notes from our experience. First off, the communication is HORRIBLE between everyone. Seems like a first year business, but it’s not. We missed our closing date and needed to pay our bank a fee to extend our locked in loan rate. Nobody told us that they wouldn’t make the closing date until too late. Next, we were told we’d have a lawn upon moving in. Just about a year later, we got our lawn hydro seeded with no instructions on how to care for it. In some areas, the grass is barely coming up, and trying to coordinate someone to reseed/fertilize has been a challenge. Our grading was ridiculous until almost a year after moving in; weeds waist height, unsafe drop offs, construction debris remaining. Also, we’ve had some construction issues that haven’t been addressed, even though they were punch list items prior to moving in. Buying a spec home has been a way more stressful experience than what we expected. I wish I could leave a positive review, but it’s not happening.

> If you want the biggest headache of your life, and have excess money to line Oyvinds pockets, then no problem. Everyone of the negative reviews I’ve read anywhere are completely accurate, and rings true to our experience. We’ve been destroyed by these people, mentally, and financially and they don’t give a crap about you. They know every loop hole in the system and get away with it. We found many contractors that work for them or contractors to do a job for them, don’t have nice things to say. I personally know 3 other couples who built with them in past few years, all say basically same issues, and complaints. Lots of promises not met, and boldly lied about many things, this is no joke. We built our previous home and It was solid and wonderful. My tile in last home over 20yrs was still perfect. My tile now, crumbling grout, really HC.. I realize reviews are hard to judge sometimes, do yourself a huge favor if your in the least bit considering them, knock on doors, ask as many people you can find. Look online, look at the name of owner on building permit of houses their building and call these people, and keep calling through building process. You’ll save yourself from the horror we went through and still deal with every day. If I can save just one person with my review, I’d be happy. I don’t know how people can conduct a business in this way, cheating and screwing people at every turn, lie after lie....Don’t be fooled by how wonderful they are at the beginning, until you sign and they have your money, look out then
> Run-Run-Run
> First video I posted- is a rain days after a different rain storm showing some of our loss of entire finished basement and belongings destroyed by 8 feet, again 8 FEET of water that broke through my daughters bedroom window, almost claiming her life, this happening 4 months after moving in. You can see, gutters are too small, water doesn’t move away from house, pitch is off etc.
> Second video was now almost two years later, 3/2020 you can see how gutters can’t handle the load in heavy rain. How fast can you run....

**★ — HU-250521100, Feb. 2020**

> Like many others have said, if you are planning to build with Hillcrest, RUN!!! They hold you to every deadline, but once you make that final payment, you are no longer their concern. If you plan to work with them, know it will be your responsibility to continue to remind them to come in and finish/fix anything, and you’ll have to retell and resend everything to 3 or more different people because their turnover is so bad. We have a 20 year warranty on our floor that is buckling where each panel meets. I let them know this immediately & we’ve been in our home almost 3 years now. They continued to say “this is normal for THIS flooring.” I contacted the flooring company and found out that Hillcrest knew the flooring would buckle and continued to sell it to customers without telling them what would happen. They are refusing to honor the 20 year warranty and refusing to respond to us. They did initially offer to pay $700 — which is a joke. When there is a warranty, you honor it. When your work is terrible, you fix the mess. Hillcrest is a dishonest company. Do not work with them.

**★ — Evan Kirkstein, June 2019**

> Long story short, I would not recommend Hillcrest to anyone. They treat you like royalty during the beginning, but that quickly changes. We had poor communication throughout the entire building process (our PM just vanished at some point) and we moved into an unfinished house after 1 1/2 years from the signing of our contract. From the time we moved in, it took them at least 6 months to finish the house, which included them having to finish and then rebuild our entire front porch. Literally we had only columns (which were the wrong ones) holding up our porch for months. We sit here today after over a year in our house (moved in February 2018) with an open list of punch-list items and zero communication from anyone at Hillcrest, including the owner, which is absolutely unacceptable. Our fireplace has never worked from the start and is now smelling like gas. We informed them countless times about this and it has never been resolved. They are blatantly ignoring us after we have been more than reasonable with timeline. We still don't have a road in our subdivision (River Bend Estates) and zero communication on when that will be done. Honestly, I could go on and on about how they have treated us (and the rest of our neighbors) but it doesn't seem to do any good. Perhaps this review will light a fire. It amazes me how a company can treat its customers so poorly. Unreal. Don't walk away from them, run!

**★★★★★ — John Syburg, Jan. 2019**

> We did a complete rehab/remodel of an existing family home. We chose Hillcrest because we have seen their work, know the people, and had complete confidence that they would be able to complete the project in a way that kept the feel of the older home, yet gave us the updates we were looking for. We were 100% correct! We got exactly what we wanted, and so many people have complimented us on the completed house. As you can imagine with an older house, we ran into many needed changes along the way. Hillcrest handled those quickly, and their design ideas were spot on. The follow up on "warranty" items was terrific as well. Thanks TEAM HILLCREST!

**★★★★★ — Ross DeRosier, Jan. 2019**

> Hillcrest has been great to work with. They are truly a one-stop, all-encompassing experience, and take the fear out of building. Oyvind and his team of realtors, project managers, and designers will help you design your dream home, and help sell your current home. Hillcrest has great design, excellent selections, and will work around your schedule. If you can’t find the right home on the market, I would highly recommend having a conversation with Hillcrest. Your dream home is closer than you might think!

**★★★★★ — Shane Adams, Jan. 2019**

> My wife and I recently purchased a home that was currently under construction with Hillcrest Builders. Oyvind and his team were very helpful and went out of their way to accommodate our needs. There we no delays and the project finished right on schedule.

**★★★★★ — Cynthia Mais, Jan. 2019**

> I am very happy with Hillcrest!
>
> We have been home remodelers and rental property owners for 30 years and about that many homes, It can be overwhelming! Jon and Oyvind have been so helpful!
