"It's all the same visual talent, the opportunity and ability to change the lens from one artistic challenge to another. To be the storyteller and share my perspective is so rewarding."

Patti has navigated the industry, offering insight, and an accessible style for over 20 years. Being able to articulate what makes a room work ergonomically as well as aesthetically is her talent, whether it is for a client or for a publication. An artistic perspective, creative solutions, snappy copy, knowledge of the market, and exacting purchase orders are just some of her tools. She began in 1985 managing a shop on Madison Avenue. The shop, "Sweet Nellie", had a national following and helped to inspire a new take on American Country.

It was a natural leap from styling interiors for the camera for design magazines to designing interiors. During her years as a stylist and decorating editor, Patti worked with over 20 mastheads. She also styled for commercial projects with industry leaders such as Minwax, Martex and Grange. In 2004-2006 Patti co-hosted a radio show called House Calls. She continues to write for magazines and is a regular contributor to Westchester Home Magazine.

Since 1995 Patricia O'Shaughnessy Design has focused on residential clients. The goal of the firm is simple, to produce comfortable interiors with a bit of whimsy while following a plan.

> My husband and I are extremely pleased with the final results of Patricia O'Shaughnessy
> Design. From start to finish, Patti was a joy to work with; exhibiting professionalism, planning and meeting deadlines and keeping to our budget. Her eye for color, fabrics, textures, and design resulted in the home of our dreams! She transformed an outdated decor, combining a
> mixture of existing items with new furnishings, into a fresh and inviting space. And, she has the amazing ability to integrate a couples differing decorative desires to make it work. We would be happy to work with Patti again!

> Patti impressively has transitioned our tired traditional space to a vibrant and yet relaxing living, dining and office areas. We found Patti expertly introduced colors, textures, and furnishings that work beautifully together to create a stylish, functional, and warm home atmosphere. She is also smart at ensuring rooms flow well together and layering a room to create a brilliant mix of patterns and textures. Her pallet is nuanced with vibrant and soothing colors that was all around pleasing. We continually receive compliments on how Patti’s creatively transformed our home to a colorful entertaining and inviting space.

**Comment from Patricia O'Shaughnessy Design:**

> Thank you, Tibi! Tibi and Paul took on all facets of revitalizing their home and property in the same year! Renovations, decoration, re-landscaping. There were many moving parts. We started in March finishing much of the big decisions by June, installed most furnishings before the August break. We are still tweaking but the pace has slowed to "maintenance". I was so pleased to refer, a great colleague, Jan Axel of Delphinium Design for the landscape design knowing they would be in great hands. Tibi and Paul have been a pleasure to work with. Tibi has a great eye for color and pattern as well as a sharp eye for detail! She has a penchant for stripes and geometrics and weaving the many stripes and geometrics together without having the patterns repeat, collide or intersect has been a delightful challenge! Many thanks to you both for letting me contribute!

> I used Patricia O'Shaughnessy Designs recently to help stage my home for sale, having used
> Patti's services in the past with decorating my home I knew when it was time to list it for sale hiring Patti and her team of assistants would make the process far easier.
> Being a Realtor in Westchester NY, I have a very keen sense of what buyers are looking for when purchasing a home. Patti made my home look move in ready, with things like choosing the right wall color, floors, rugs,ART! She even helped with finding the right pieces of furniture to accent my home! Whether you are looking to change the look of your entire home or just one room, Patti makes it work within your budget.
> I have to say the money I spent was well worth the investment, my home sold in record time with the highest price paid for size, location and condition in my area. Of Course its easy to say I hired the best realtor but its only one part, hiring Patricia O'Shaughnessy Design pulled it all together. I highly recommend her and her team. Thank you for reading this review.

**Comment from Patricia O'Shaughnessy Design:**

> Thank you, Christina! It was a pleasure to work with you again. I really acknowledge your determination to "let go". You had a vision but you turned many of the decisions over to me. It's often so difficult for homeowner's to let a designer call the shots even when they know they want to sell! Selling "the forever home" is an emotional process. I was so grateful I was able to assist and you reaped the rewards! Congrats!
> Thank you for posting the pictures!

**★★★★ — Elizabeth Folberth, Dec. 2018**

> My husband and I found Patti's House Call report very useful as we considered upgrades to our 1920's home with an eye to selling it in the near future. Patti gave us good ideas and helped us find the best fabrics, accessories and rugs to refresh our home. She is a joy to work with.

**Comment from Patricia O'Shaughnessy Design:**

> Thank you, Liz,
> It's a great privilege to have as a starting point a beautiful, classic, well manicured, Tudor! It's been a pleasure getting to know you and your preferences. I've really enjoyed presenting updates that freshen a classic! And what a pleasure to work with someone who just can't resist flowers! Many thanks!

**★★★★★ — John and Kathleen Perry, Dec. 2018**

> In our NYC 2 BR apartment and a Greenwich CT 5 BR house, Patti has been invaluable in overall design, selection of furniture, mirrors, painting, carpets, rugs, and accessories. Her artistic eye, keen appreciation of color and textiles as well as her connections to wonderful vendors and craftspeople has been extremely helpful. Patti is a joy to work with: intelligent, willing to listen and work within our budget, energetic, and has that great sense of style and design we needed.

**Comment from Patricia O'Shaughnessy Design:**

> Thank you Kathleen and John! This is our 3rd full round together, we addressed 10th St. when you became "empty nesters". For the first time in a very long time the apartment was going to be about the 2 of you and then again when Liz was getting married, we prepped for visiting friends and relatives. Now your new home in Greenwich, designed for the 2 of you but with family and grandchildren frequent, daily, visitors! It's been a privilege to work with you both and see the family blossom and grow! I so appreciate being "in" on the planning for so many lovely Perry's!!!!!

**★★★★★ — Susan Camargo, Dec. 2018**

> We have been working with Patti for over a year, contemporaneously renovating and decorating our 1920’s Tudor home. Patti has a great eye for color, she sources through very high quality vendors and the craftsmanship shows in everything she has curated for our home. This project and client (!) has presented many challenges to Patti and she meets them all with good cheer. She has unflagging energy and positivity. She stays on track with the vision and is able to work incrementally with us and on multiple fronts. We’ve had more than a few tough decisions to make on the budget along the way and I found her to be very pragmatic and willing to try and find budget friendly alternatives - where appropriate. That said, her ability to source unique, quality pieces has proven well worth the spend. By commissioning one a kind artwork and weaving in antique treasures we now have several WOW pieces in our home. It feels distinctive and bespoke, formal but not stodgy with a big dash of swank. She is creating a cohesive feel throughout the house while varying the mood and intensity from room to room which was important to us. She’s been able to translate our point of view and work to complement the strong bones of the house. It’s been very gratifying to entertain again and we get a lot of positive feedback from each reveal. It’s really a pleasure to work with Patti O. She delivers on fabulousness!

**Comment from Patricia O'Shaughnessy Design:**

> Susan and Helio have allowed me to be "on their team" which is a very high compliment! Helio is an expert craftsman and contractor and Susan has a keen eye for design as well as "the books"! Both the property and house are large, vintage, and gracious. Their goal, to modernize but maintain the home's gracious countenance! It has been and continues to be a major renovation and a thrilling journey in self expression for the both of them! When we first met the project was enormous and the starting point nebulous!. A 6 bedroom home, with a 24' long Living room, a Library, a Reception room, a large, large kitchen, with 2 pantries, with barely a table and chair they wanted to keep. I was non-plussed at their resolve to do so much on their own and in a time frame that seemed naive. A high wire act! We have all been on the wire at times with certain decisions and strong opinions but due to truly special clients, setting the right tone, we've all taken turns making decisions as well as holding the net for each other! It's been a treat to steer, challenging to trust, but it's coming together beautifully and truly better for the collaboration. It's been a privilege and FUN to collaborate and decorate this venerable Tudor, tastefully and whimsically with antiques, animal prints and crystals! Thank you both for the opportunity!

**★★★★★ — Cira Marmolejos, May 2017**

> Thank you Patti!!! You pushed out me of my comfort zone showing me ideas I never thought of! Your love of color has inspired me! You embraced My love of contemporary and classic design Taking it to the next level. Thank you!!!

**★★★★★ — Valerie Clark, March 2017**

> I feel so lucky to have found Patti through Houzz! I started out with her House Call service, just a few months ago. Though my project is focused more on the kitchen/dining area, I found this House Call service to be incredibly helpful – money well spent! The final product was a comprehensive report that included an overview of goals for home improvement projects as well as very specific recommendations around color schemes, fabric and even furniture options. This will serve as a very helpful resource and guide for all future decorating.
>
> Patti is all-around amazing but a few things are really notable: 1) My husband and I have different design tastes and Patti uses her unique ability to integrate our different design preferences 2) Patti respects and effectively manages different price points, she honestly tells you where money is best saved or spent 3) she has an amazing eye for color, fabrics, and art along with a network of folks to call on if needed and 4) perhaps most importantly, she is a real pleasure to work with – she listens and is creative, professional and timely. I look forward to designing with Patti in the future.

**★★★★★ — Richard Herman, Feb. 2017**

> We had the privilege of working with Patti on the rehabilitation of our administrative offices. Patti was wonderful to work with, smart, creative and talented. Her choices about wall colors and furniture were great. On our side, we kept changing our plans, but Patti was flexible enough to revise her plans with great understanding and professionalism. She was a joy to work with.

**★★★★★ — Judy Vitelli, Sept. 2016**

> Patti is my decorating guru. I have worked with her for over 15 years. In her friendly, gentle way, she has helped me create the atmosphere I want in my home. She is a genius with color, and I have learned to trust her recommendations without doubt. She has helped me at home and at work and I have avoided costly mistakes with her help.

**Comment from Patricia O'Shaughnessy Design:**

> Thank you, Judy! You
> have an interesting perspective, so specific about your art, paintings, small sculptures, and beautifully crafted objects. Thank you for allowing me to guide you with the bigger picture, providing a peaceful context to support these beautiful gems! Many thanks for your referrals over the years!

**★★★★★ — eaguilday, Sept. 2016**

> My apartment has an amazing, highly functional, absolutely beautiful kitchen. It's also got a beautiful living room with crown moulding in a very subtle pearly grey color. Considering how difficult it can be (I can be) to make a decision, it's all quite a miracle, and all thanks to Patti O'Shaughnessy.
>
> Patti smartly used her hefty experience, developed aesthetic sensibility, network of first class professionals and get-it-done focus to give me a largely redone apartment. The kitchen I'd honestly dreamed about. Really, after the kitchen was finished under Patti's leadership of the construction people, I happened on a picture I'd torn out of a magazine years prior and completely forgotten about. The new kitchen was shockingly similar and it was mine!
>
> I have absolutely no reservations giving Patti my highest recommendation for your interior design project.

**Comment from Patricia O'Shaughnessy Design:**

> Elizabeth! It's so exciting to be starting phase 2 with you. The initial renovation of your kitchen and public rooms has laid the groundwork for the fun part, decorating! The oil painting of the rocky coast of Cape May was our inspiration for the kitchen and will continue to inspire us as we select fabrics for the living room. The painting inspired our choice of kitchen tile, navy blue cabinetry and lighting. Since it's a narrow pass through these elements have the effect of making the viewer feel like they are walking through a waterfall to get to the light, airy dining area! The white Eero Saarinen pedestal dining table has created a very contemporary feel. Soon to sport pattern! I'm looking forward to getting the David Hicks inspired carpet in place and choosing fabrics to play with the pattern on the floor! Stay tuned!

**★★★★★ — S Torre, June 2016**

> I began working with Patti O'Shaughnessy about 15 years ago and she has assisted us in four to five major projects over the years. Patti has helped us choose rugs, furniture, fabrics, and accessories. When I repainted my entire house, she helped me choose the colors and I loved every one of them! She helped choose colors, rugs and furniture when we added a floor to our house. And, in 2016 she is helping me choose fabrics and drapery to reupholster many pieces of the original furniture from 2001. Patti has helped make our house into a home. Working with Patti is a pleasure because she is professional, honest, and reliable. She has an excellent eye and as a designer she pushes you just enough by making you a little more daring and stylish than you would be without her. Patti cares, she listens and wants to please. Over time, she gets to know your taste and working with her is a breeze! I wouldn't want to do a house project without Patti!

**Comment from Patricia O'Shaughnessy Design:**

> Thank you! Stephanie, it has been a pleasure! Can't wait to see all the new fabrics in the living room, drapes on the landing and coming soon.....the gorgeous Tibetan runner for the stairs!

**★★★★★ — Jennifer Ungvary, June 2016**

> I met Patti about five years ago when I wanted to change a few things on the first floor of my house. I researched a few designers in Westchester and everyone seemed to have five-figure minimums that didn't work for my budget. I did some Googling and found Patti, who lived in my same town, and arranged a meeting after reading great things about her working within small spaces and with people on a budget.
>
> I could not be happier with the results off all of the projects Patti has done for me. We have a 4 BR colonial that is not huge and grand, and yet the rugs, wall colors, lighting fixtures and furniture pieces that Patti has picked out make my friends and neighbors with much grander homes say, "Wow! Your house looks great!!"
>
> We are in this house for the long haul, so I asked Patti to help make my entry foyer look amazing even though it is really small. She picked a fabulous color of Pratt & Lambert golden paint, these classy Company C platinum and gold rugs that were affordable and 100% wool, a terrific painted wood table from the local shop in our town and handmade lighting fixtures that I went to the Bowery to select that I think are the greatest things ever. None were "break the bank" items at all, I felt great about every piece and I still love them all incredibly and that was three years ago.
>
> Our next project was the dining room. Patti found this terrific wool remnant at Carpet Trends that people loved so much I thought someone was going to eventually try to roll it up and take it with them. It's not only that she has this amazing eye to pick the best items, she watches your budget, she knows that the edges need to be serged, that the rug needs to be this size or cut that way or placed right here but not there. She is amazing. For that room, she also chose paint colors and a new table and chairs and this great jug lamp that she found at an antique store.
>
> Subsequently, Patti put together a new Dash and Albert rug, MGBW couch & ottoman and wall hangings for my den. Patti always knows where to look for great stuff. She has a million resources for all budgets. I would never know where to find all of these great things or be able to put them together like Patti.
>
> Just today my last rug "replacement" took place (Patti fixed up all of the ugly I had done originally) in my living room, a fantastic Stark wool remnant that coordinates so well with all of the other rugs she selected, you would have thought we had some great master plan. She also magically made the rug work with the existing items I had in the room since I couldn't replace everything else at the moment. She knew how to make it all work.
>
> I trust Patti implicitly. She knows her stuff like nobody's business. She is extremely hardworking, always going to trade shows and showrooms, increasing her knowledge of what's out there, always ahead of trends. She delivers on time and on budget. She is an exceptional designer and will work with all budgets. Truly a treasure!

**Comment from Patricia O'Shaughnessy Design:**

> How great! Jen is an inspired home chef and I use it as a metaphor! One doesn't always have all the ingredients for a fantastic meal but we can always improvise and if you have a vision you can get there! Thank you, Jen! Working for you with Jeff and your girls in mind is a pleasure. You all have style, I just interpret what I see!

**★★★★★ — harryplank, May 2016**

> Overall, great experience! We took advantage of the "house call" service -- for a fixed price we received a great deal of good advice and information on everything from the overall footprint of the space to the color of walls and furnishings. Our "house call" service was a process that involved several thorough and thoughtful conversations and face to face meetings, this is way more than a one shot consultation. In the end, we had a written report from Patti that summarized the concept and details we discussed and a good big picture idea for our project -- a huge help for us in starting out on this renovation!

**Comment from Patricia O'Shaughnessy Design:**

> Fantastic site, a townhouse overlooking the mighty Hudson just across from the Tappan Zee Bridge. It is a big shift from a horizontal, contemporary, suburban home in the woods to a tall townhouse on the banks of the river. Perhaps more of a renovation than what the client's were planning but it will be fabulous. A great location with spectacular views for the next phase of life! I was glad to provide vision and materials for the renovation.

  - Description: We have just begun Phase 2 of this graceful pre-war apartment in Bronxville! - Description: This was our weekend home in Old Lyme. An incredible spot, "the last of the Mohicans'". It was part of a farm, one of the largest undeveloped properties left on the shores of Long Island Sound. We did not own it but we moved in for a year and stayed 20. The house was built for the Farm manager, Michael Finnegan in 1910. The back of the house faced south, with open fields all the way to the Sound. In 1910 house was insulated with blocks of seaweed, years later the house still had a scent of the s…
