I was about to give up on my kitchen remodel when I learned about Dave Abroms from a friend of a friend who had her condo remodeled by him. She gave such glowing reviews that I had to meet him, and now that he's remodeled my kitchen, I can see why she spoke so highly of him. > > I met Dave at my place, and he provided with a detailed estimate of what exactly would be done. His estimate was very thorough, and his pricing was very reasonable, less than all three of the estimates that I'd gotten before. After we signed a contract, Dave gave me a planned start date that was only a couple weeks later, and not several months later, which was the problem with other contractors. The kitchen remodel included demolition, refinishing the hardwood floor throughout my place, installing hardwood where there previously was cabinets and a counter in the kitchen that was taken out and not replaced, installing drywall and spackle/sanding ceiling and walls, installing cabinets and ceiling lights, plumbing for sink, stove gas line that I moved and refrigerator water line that I moved, fabricating and installing granite countertop, laying down glass tile backsplash. Dave estimated that the entire project would take 4-5 weeks, and it ended up taking about 6 weeks, which was entirely reasonable given the coordination of incoming materials and availability of him and other workers. That said, he does not use any assistants or crew and does almost all the work himself. The only times that he used other people were for the hardwood floor refinishing, fabricating the granite, and all plumbing. I can't state enough how significant this point was, as noted below. > > Dave is very knowledgeable about everything, and he has to be since he basically does all the work, which was top notch quality. I could tell that he wasn't sloppy and took his time to do a great job, even when he could've just as easily cut corners to save time. For example, I had ordered two kitchen sinks that were virtually identical except that one was about an inch narrower than the other, but the wider one was several hundred dollars cheaper (plus it was that much bigger obviously). The wider one didn't fit initially, but Dave took half an afternoon, cutting out parts of the cabinet and other materials that you wouldn't see anyways under the sink so that it would fit. He could've just as easily saved himself several hours of work and told me that we had no choice but to go with the narrower sink. > > I'm very picky, and what really impressed me was that Dave really takes pride in his work. If I saw something that I wanted re-done or tweaked when he'd finish a step in the process, we would discuss my concerns, and after he'd give me his perspective (which was backed with a lot more experience than my opinion), either I would follow his advice since I could see it made more sense or he would do what I asked in the first place without giving me a hard time about it. If he had a bunch of people doing the work for him, there is no way this process could've worked as well as it did, and I highly doubt my kitchen would look as awesome as it does. Also, while I designed everything myself, picked out all materials and found what I thought were the best vendor/prices, Dave saved me several hundred dollars using his vendor to buy the exact same glass tile that I was going to buy from a different vendor. Another example where Dave went out of his way to make my kitchen remodel the best experience possible. I wouldn't hesitate to use Dave again for future projects, and I've already recommended him to a couple friends who are considering remodeling projects. **★★★★★ — joelsplansky, Jan. 2014** > We have hired David Abroms to design and complete three different home improvement projects since 2007 including two bathrooms and a patio lattice/trellis structure. Mr Abroms is skilled in a variety of construction/remodel techniques and crafts and excels in design, space utilization and choice of materials and colors. He stripped both bathrooms to floorboards and studs and rebuilt them to completion. Tile work is a particular specialty but he also works extremely well with wood, flooring and insulation materials. We found Mr. Abroms to be honest, his pre-project estimates for labor and materials costs were fair and he passed on any savings on the cost of materials to us. After a project's completion, Mr. Abroms is particularly good at assuming personal responsibility for needed follow-up service, alterations, corrections or remedies.
