> Highly recommend AAMD for all your renovation needs.

> We contacted AAMD and two other companies to discuss updating our kitchen and fireplace. We are so happy we chose AAMD. Peter was professional and courteous throughout the entire process. He met with us at each stage and helped us pick out materials such as a beautiful piece of granite, tile and flooring. He made stellar recommendations such an oversized sink, grout colour, under-cabinet lighting, pot lights, granite cut lines and layout, and modernized our fireplace by having the floor run directly up to the stone. He really took the time to hear our ideas and offered his professional and valuable opinion to help guide us, which I really appreciated as this was our first major renovation. Peter also listened to my concerns at each stage and added a few requests I threw in at the last minute such as a water filtration system and built-in garbage/recycling drawer. He finished this entire job on budget and on time. We are thrilled with the outcome and feel like we have a brand new home. I'd would recommend AAMD if you are considering any home renovations and we will certainly call them again if we need anything in the future.

**Comment from AAMD Renovations:**

> Thanks for the kind words. You two made some great choices. The project turned out well. Hope your family and friends enjoy your new space.

**★★★★★ — Sharon Roberts, Oct. 2019**

> I would like to take this opportunity to recognize Peter (and his helper, James) for their exceptional work on our deck.
> We are traditionally DIY'ers and needed to re-do the deck we had built ourselves in the mid 90's. Started to take it apart board by board and soon realized we needed professional help. Being almost 25 years older can do that to you.
> Interviewed a number of companies. Some we liked - a lot - and some we didn't. Our 'vision' for the design wanted was accepted and priced within too wide a range of prices and we concluded, yet another consult with a professional was required.
> It was then we contacted Peter on the advice of a trusted friend I have known for almost 40 years. Peter arrived that same day to give us an estimate, along with advice, and everything changed. Our 'vision' was a 'just for us' scenario. It did not fully take into account the resale value of our property. Peter's dual expertise of being both a realtor & a home renovation expert became invaluable. He explained what he saw as the best deck renovation and why it would add value to our property & still provide for the needs for our family.
> The work was done within the time frame quoted, using quality materials that will withstand the elements, and all delivered with a cheerful disposition, while I obsessed over every nail my 'DIY' self was not putting in. And at a reasonable cost.
> A lot of companies out there can do the work being asked for. The quality of which will be determined once they are done. However, it's the VALUE ADDED experience that is truly worth the price. Had he not had a real estate background to also advice us on property value implications, we may have actually lost money on this renovation. Peter has a wide range of skills from kitchen remodelling to tile setting. We have had a few renovations done on our house, over the years, with mixed results. Sadly, none of them warranted a recommendation......until Peter.
> Thank you. We will ONLY contact Peter for anything we may need in the future.

**Comment from AAMD Renovations:**

> Thanks for the kind words Sharon! Glad you love you're new outdoor space. Your vision turned out well.

**★★★★★ — Joey&Ron Blasetti, May 2016**

> We first heard about AAMD through our daughter who had a complete overhaul done on her kitchen. The decision to hire Peter was very easy once we saw the completed renovation.
>
> After our first meeting with Peter we knew he was the right fit for our renovation. Once the plans were finalized Peter gave us a start date which was started on the said date, the completion date was a week early.
>
> Beside the excellent craftsmenship by Peter and James it was their visionary talents that were as impressive. Two great features we now have were afterthoughts from Peter and James that has added great joy and character to our home.
>
> Our expierence with AAMD was extremely positive and will highly recommend their skill and talents.
>
> Thanks again Peter and James for your professionalism and personal touch you added in our renovation.

**Comment from AAMD Renovations:**

> Glad you two like your new space. It was a fantastic update. Everything you chose fit perfectly with the vision.

> Peter is a passionate, approachable and creative contractor who really pulled all the elements of our bathroom renovation together for the price he quoted and within the time frame he predicted. His attention to details using design principles and incorporating our ideas/desires really made us feel confident that the project would meet our high standards. Since he doubles as a realtor, he was able to give us tips to increase the value of our home and minimize any unnecessary costs (for example, not replacing the existing floor tiles). Very professional in his approach, he clearly communicated the overall plan and what we might expect along the way as well as answered all our questions. He met and exceeded our expectations!

**★★★★★ — Desiree Middlemiss, Sept. 2015**

> We hired AAMD to re do our kitchen. We could not be more pleased with the results. Peter is a professional in every sense of the word. He has great ideas, and really went that extra mile everyday for us. I would hire him again without a doubt and have already recommended him to others. We love our renovation and he really did give us the kitchen of our dreams. Cooking has become fun again! That's worth its weight in gold to my family and me!

**Comment from AAMD Renovations:**

> Thanks Dez/Chris. I'm so glad you guys like your new kitchen! It turned out well. You guys made some great choices. Cooking needs to be fun in order to feed the imagination.

**★★★★★ — jcevask, Sept. 2015**

> AAMD Renovations did an excellent job and we would rehire for future projects. AAMD Renovations installed our new Kitchen in November 2014 including installing cabinets & new Island, tile back-splash, new hood fan and did a change in plumbing for new built island. The finished work of AAMD Renovations looked great! As well, we used AAMD Renovations to custom build our new deck outside backyard in June 2014. AAMD Renovations are professional, reliable and positive to work with. They also finished our projects in a very timely manner. We would recommend them anytime.

**Comment from AAMD Renovations:**

> Thanks guys. Glad you like your 2 new spaces. The kitchen is so much more useable now than it was before. We gained more space by taking out the old peninsula. Hope your family likes eating at the island now. Hope you had a chance to use your deck this year. It was a nice summer.

**★★★★ — joangrahamtough, Sept. 2015**

> AAMD Renovations worked for a complete kitchen renovation and powder room for us in a rental property in 2013.
> This company is completely professional.
> Peter particularly is creative, offering attractive solutions to tricky problems and is very considerate about budget.
> We have recommended his services to others.

**★★★★★ — crystaldawn1973, Sept. 2015**

> We hired Peter to complete a full kitchen renovation. Peter had great suggestions and designed the kitchen of my dreams.
> Peter along with Jason and Andrew were very professional and easy to work with. The project went extremely smooth and was completed on time and on budget.
> Peter will be the first and only contractor I call for our next renovation.

**Comment from AAMD Renovations:**

> Thanks Crystal. I'm so glad you like your new kitchen. You made some great choices in materials and finishes. It all turned out fabulously! Now that you've had some time to use it Christmas dinner this year will undoubtedly be amazing!

**★★★★★ — jmturnwest, Sept. 2015**

> Peter Chow was referred to us by a friend who highly recommended his work redoing his bathroom. Even a second individual, who had hired him for a bathroom, was also very pleased. So, based on two referrals, we felt confident in choosing Peter to help us with our kitchen counters and backsplash. He took his time taking us to granite showrooms before we made our selection and we were very impressed with his professionalism, work ethic and his skills as a carpenter and tiler. Before we could begin the job, the existing cabinetry for the fridge had to accommodate a wider one and that did not deter Peter. He removed crown mouldings and side panels and replaced them seamlessly, so perfectly, in fact, that the new fridge fit right in. Not only is he a skilled worker, but he also has a good sense of design based on his post secondary training and natural aptitude. He offered good sound advice and valuable tips in helping us choose our materials, colours and design and was genuinely interested in our preferences for our kitchen and made sure that we were satisfied every step of the way. He was punctual, cleaned up after his work, and remained in steady communication with us throughout the job. When it came to the cost of our project, he worked within and respected our budget and was a man of his word from beginning to end. The end result was worth it because we love our kitchen and so do our family and friends. We would highly recommend him.

**Comment from AAMD Renovations:**

> Thanks you two. It took some research and time but I think you made some very good choices. Good things come to those who wait, right? The granite you chose turned out fabulously! The colour and pattern of the stone balances so well with your cabinets. Glad you are happy.

> We recently hired Peter from AAMD Renovations to repair the siding which houses part of our chimney, which had extensive water damage due to incorrectly installed shingles. Peter assessed the situation, provided an acceptable estimate, and scheduled the job for two weeks out. He was then able reschedule for a week earlier than planned, and completed the job as within one day. All work was completed as expected, and he also repaired the shingle problem which caused the damage. We are very happy with our experience with AAMD Renovations, and with the work done.

 - Description: This project started out with replacing all the flooring on the whole main floor. Foyer, bathroom, laundry room, back hallway, kitchen and living room were all redone with new vinyl laminate. The old fireplace in the living room was demo'd and reclad with sparkly white stacked stone. Then came the new kitchen design. The old oak kitchen had a very small, almost unusable, island. One of the things the owners wanted was more seating space for entertaining. We accomplished this by installing a 40 s…

The hand scraped oak flooring was then installed and the custom cabinets placed on top. The client wanted a bay window so the existing window was replaced by a custom built bay window to allow for extra light for plants. All the beautiful stone was supplied by Bella Pietra Surfaces. - Description: Our company was tasked with this renovation this spring. The clients were wanting a change to their pieced together bungalow. A few additions were added over the years and at different stages. The living room was first, then the dining room was added later. As was such the rooms were quite cut off from each other. The clients wanted a more open concept with better flow. So the wall was taken down between the living room and dining room and structurally supported to give a great spacious feel. Al…

 - Description: A complete make over of an older apartment style condo. First was to give the condo a more open feeling by opening up the wall between the kitchen and the living room. This gave a sense of spaciousness and allowed for lots of natural light into the kitchen. The floors were then updated with new laminate flooring and tile. A bright high gloss white kitchen was then installed with stainless steel appliances. The fireplace was given a makeover to give it an updated feel with large tile and a new ma…

## Community Q&A

**Q: The company name and the vinyl flooring color?** *(in Photo Questions)*

A: Hi Jan. The vinyl flooring used in this project is a product called Vinloc. The color is called Blue Pine. It's a great looking product and very hardy. Used in commercial applications originally but is now available for residential.

**Q: Complete Kitchen Transformation** *(in Before & After)*

Our client's original kitchen lacked adequate storage and counter space. To create a more open flow from the living room to the kitchen, we decided to remove some walls and cabinets over the island, replacing with a ceiling-mount vent hood. We also incorporated an L-shaped counter along the north facing wall to maximize counter space and increase the amount of storage. The combination of custom gray distressed wood cabinetry and sparkling white quartzite countertops create a stunning atmosphere in this previously lackluster kitchen. Click here to see the complete transformation!

A: Nicely done. Love the colour of the cabinets!

**Q: Oak kitchen work in progress!** *(in Before & After)*

How am I doing? It's been a long summer!!!! Would appreciate ideas for backsplash tile. I love arabesque. I am thinking a cream color to match the cabinets or a simple gray. I am also leaning toward matching grout lines. Also- something special above the cooktop.
Tell me what you think!!

A: Great looking granite! Nice choice. I would recommend going with a white tile backsplash in maybe a herring bone pattern to give it a bit of design. That way it won't take away from your beautiful counters.

**Q: DIY Kitchen Update** *(in Before & After)*

Before & After Granite Counters, Refinished & Painted Cabinets, Refrigerator, Single Deep Bowl Sink & Faucet, Hardwood Floor (Few touch-ups left to do)

A: nicely updated!

**Q: Do white cabinets make sense?** *(in Design Dilemma)*

I'm wondering if I should pursue my dream of a white kitchen? I was at Lowe's and the kitchen designer there showed me kitchen cabinet doors. I like the narrower shaker style She said that she didn't recommend white cabinets, because in our climate, which is REALLY dry (we live in Calgary, Alberta, Canada) the wood really has a tendency to shrink and that makes all the miter seams very obvious. She recommended a light wood instead. I'm not objecting, I'm just trying to adjust to the idea . . . any thoughts?

A: The kitchen designer at Lowes is only partially right. Yes Calgary has a very dry climate as compared to say Quebec (where most of these big box stores cabinet suppliers are from). So if you order from say Lowes or Home Depot, etc then yes there is a chance that the doors will shrink as they dry out in our climate. I've personally had this happen on various jobs where my clients want a big box store style cabinet. The doors have shrunk and have shown cracks. I've even had the doors shrink to the point of warping.
Now if you go with a local supplier or custom cabinet builder, you will avoid a lot of this as the materials they are using are already climatized to our dry environment. Then it doesn't matter if you go with a white Shaker style or a more traditional raised panel maple.
As for white being timeless I partially agree with both previous comments. Nothing is timeless. There are always trends. But that being said there are colours and designs that are more "time neutral" than others. White being one of those things.
You do need to do what you like though. Get what you like now and know that it was a choice that you made that made you happy. If in 10-15 yrs you don't like it, well change it then. There are very few things that will have that kind of lasting affect when it comes to style. If you made the choice yourself and you love it, then you will probably still love it for years to come. Everyone changes as the years go by and so does design.

**Q: What design trend do you wish you could bring back?** *(in Design Dilemma)*

Do you remember fondly when shag carpets were the height of home fashion? Wistfully look back on the days of macrame?
Which design trend do you wish you could bring back?
Tell us! (Photos encouraged)

A: Transoms and pocket doors. Actual wood baseboards and casing
