> As we look forward to our heading into our 3rd season of working with Jessica and Wild Craft Permaculture I wanted to take the time to write this review.
> Jessica started working with in 2014 planning and designing the fields around our new country home into amazing gardens. We wanted easy gardens including including minimal weeding and watering requirements and we wanted to focus on pollination for our future bee project and of course no chemicals of any kind.
> Year one (2015) started with hugelkulture which we did with Jessica's guidance. Then Jessica started on the planting. Year two more plants we added to the original three gardens as ground cover to help fill in the low spaces. Year three we are adding two more "Island" gardens in the middle of the driveway. It is interesting to let the mind wander on years 4,5,6... Herb gardens and fruit trees possibly. Always on time, always professional with a nack for assisting with negotiations between husband and wife on needs!

**Comment from Wild Craft Permaculture:**

> I look forward to working on those naturalized 'islands' this year Katharine. I think they will be a stunning entrance to the property when all of the wildflowers are in bloom, and will add complex deliciousness to your home grown honey!

**★★★★★ — Mary Simpson, Nov. 2016**

> Wild Craft Permaculture is a consulting firm that offers a full range of design and application services. A great service for the complex process of permaculture design. Jessie and her team have helped us focus our efforts. We now have a fantastic base map, the initial step, which always alluded me.

**Comment from Wild Craft Permaculture:**

> We are so glad to be involved in the long term planning of the farm Mary. It is going to be an amazing place.

**★★★★★ — Dinah Watts, Nov. 2016**

> Jessie has given us a dream garden! We wanted a naturalized front yard and she and her team installed a beauty in 2012. Every year it gets more lush and passers-by enjoy it almost as much as we do. Plus we get extra joy from the berries and special plants that attract butterflies and birds. Jessie and her team are friendly, competent, and efficient. They got everything done on time on on budget. And the follow up service has been wonderful as well. I highly recommend Wild Craft Permaculture.

**Comment from Wild Craft Permaculture:**

> Thank you Dinah! I enjoy passing by and seeing how it is filling in as well. David had said you may want some new native plants for spring. Let me know and I will order them for you.

**★★★★★ — marklondonontario, Oct. 2016**

> My wife and I hired Jessica after doing a lot of research on what we could do with our yard. As neither of us are experienced gardeners, we wanted something that would require minimal maintenance, used indigenous vegetation, and was edible. Jessica provided a thorough consultation, advised on a design, and installed everything herself. She kept us looped in to the process the entire time, giving us many options to choose from, and built an amazing "guild" designed around a sweet cherry tree. Our two young daughters love the garden and regularly pick the strawberries, spinach, and bloody dock at random while running around outside. Our backyard is now a sustainable and beautiful oasis. We love it!

**Comment from Wild Craft Permaculture:**

> Thank you Mark. I'm glad to see the cherry thriving and love that the girls can just forage around their own backyard!

**★★★★★ — dayasjunk, Aug. 2016**

> Really enjoyed working with Jessica to create our wonderful front. What a positive experience it was turning our boring grass-covered yard into a more natural space. So exciting to see each plant mature and give us delicious fresh edibles. Jessica has a vast knowledge of native flora evident in the diagrams and reference material put together and presented to us during the planning process. Throughout the experience we worked side by side with Jessica learning as we went. Neighbors would routinely drop by to see our progress - excited to see what would be coming next.

**Comment from Wild Craft Permaculture:**

> Thanks guys! It's been fun to see it progress over time and really fill in.

**★★★★ — kitchenmum, Aug. 2016**

> Jessica was just the person we needed to fulfil our permaculture-landscaping aspirations! She listened attentively to our ideas, drew up a number of landscape designs and worked closely with us to develop the best plan. She was conscious of our budget and worked within it. She continues to be involved in our lives as the garden matures, giving advice and support. Photos are available on the webpage.

**Comment from Wild Craft Permaculture:**

> It's always a pleasure stopping by to see how the garden is developing and catch up on your vegetable growing and recipe experiments!

**★★★★★ — Piper Badgley, July 2016**

> Jessica is a very good listener. She distills a ton of feedback to create a plan, and then executes it while providing clear direction and motivating others to give their all as well. We worked along side Jessie and her team for a week stripping out old landscape, digging new beds, learning the philosophy behind the plant choices and ways of planting… it was the best week of vacation that we had! Jessie is professorial – she is incredibly bright and shares her wisdom enthusiastically & passionately – a hip young professor not a stodgy older one – one who has a great sense of humour!

**Comment from Wild Craft Permaculture:**

> Thank you Piper. That was definitely a fun filled week!

**★★★★★ — HU-634764, July 2016**

> Jessica is a rare person of high integrity. When she says she will do something, she does it. If something comes in her way of fulfilling her commitment she is in communication right away to make arrangements to complete the task at a time that works for both parties. She is deep down devoted to nurturing community through her vision for local food security. She is constantly improving her knowledge of permaculture and her network of colleagues who are aligned with her vision.

  - Description: This garden not only provides food throughout the season, it produces cut flowers for home arrangements, and is a showcase for the clients' art collection and found objects. A dry river bed bisects the backyard and serves as a swale to water the adjacent beds automatically from the downspouts of the house. This river is bordered by Keyhole garden beds that have space reserved for annual vegetables such as tomatoes, peppers and beans. The keyhole shape means easy access for harvesting without hav…
- [Small Edible Front Yard - London ON](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/small-edible-front-yard-london-on-pj-vj~1851153)
  - Location: London, ON

  - Description: Hazelnut trees in the background create privacy and shade for the house. Space for a seating area was left in front of these with a raised 'hugelkultur' bed along the street to screen the seating area and provide an area for low-water food production. The hugelkultur is anchored at either end by shrub cherries, with a mix of other perennial foods, pollinator attractors, and nitrogen fixers.

  - Description: This ranch house has a substantial front yard that they just weren't using. All it was was a big chore to have to mow all the time. We converted it to a productive foodscape full of perennial foods and native plants, with some tricks hidden in there to make it less work to maintain. The downspout of the house feeds into a swale that self-waters a good portion of the garden every time it rains. Two long hugelkultur beds provide some relief and privacy to the space while absorbing large amounts of…
- [Full Backyard Makeover - London ON](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/full-backyard-makeover-london-on-pj-vj~1862985)
  - Location: London, ON
  - Photos: 15
  - Description: This small backyard was transformed from standard grass and a large vegetable garden into an edible paradise with a number of fruit trees (apples, plum, apricot, high bush cranberry, elderberry, haskap, currants), smaller edible plants, entertaining and relaxation space, as well as dedicated space for annual vegetables. The raised hugelkultur mounds are a great low maintenance growing space and allow the gardener to work on them without bending over and aggravating a chronic back injury.

## Community Q&A

**Q: What are those verticle pipes and do they withstand the wind?** *(in Photo Questions)*

looking at the picture

A: Good question Catherine! This client has an extensive indoor and outdoor art collection. Those vertical columns are a sculptural piece. They do withstand the elements. While they could be positioned to create a microclimate with extra heat and wind protection they have not been used as such here.
