There is a version of beautiful design that requires us to conform: it instructs us to soften our edges, quiet our intuition, and select what is safe. It teaches us that "good taste" means fitting in – the vibrancy of one’s specific life beiged-out into acceptability and the performance of keeping up. But the cost of this kind of beauty is the loss of Self.

Established in 2014, Noz Design believes the spaces we live in should reflect who we are – they should encourage us to be our most expressive, most present, most whole, our most alive. These spaces should honor where + who we come from, the people + beings we love, and the fullest life we want to lead in them. This ambition to create these spaces for our clients is at the center of Noz Design's work.

After breaking free from the security of a corporate career, Noz reclaimed her first love of design to build a studio around a simple but radical idea: that beauty feels best when it creates our own belonging. Guided by deep reverence for individuality and expression, Noz creates homes that celebrate the people who live in them – effervescent spaces that help our clients self-express, not as an indulgence, but as an exercise to root ourselves.

When people are freed to demonstrate who they deeply are, real meaningful connection activates: a home becomes a place where one's people gather openly, where stories are shared vulnerably, where individuality is celebrated. Each Noz Design project is an act of listening, understanding, and interpreting into experiential, aesthetic design: we conceive of spaces in which our clients feel seen, where their quirks are celebrated, and where their own humanity is beautiful. In these spaces, our own communities can flourish.

To us, the best design feels like coming home to yourself.

**★★★★★ — Mike Ellis, March 2024**

> I hired Noz and her team to lead the design for a complete remodel of my 2BD/2BR condo in San Francisco. Before hiring a designer, I had worked up some very rough design ideas, but I wanted a designer to “push the envelope” while also developing a cohesive aesthetic throughout the home. From our initial consultation, Noz worked really hard to understand what I wanted, and used that as a starting point for her own amazingly unique and creative ideas. My home has been transformed in a way quite different from what I originally expected, but very much in the spirit of what I was seeking from a comfort and design perspective. I couldn’t be happier with how the place turned out, thanks to Noz and her team!
>
> From initial contact to the completion of the project, Noz and team were consistently enthusiastic, communicative, prompt and clear. We worked through three design proposals, and with each iteration a concept drawing was incredibly helpful in thinking about what the final space would look like. The process was super valuable for me – Noz definitely had incredible ideas but was also more than open to my feedback and always available to explain and/or balance her design choices in very practical terms. Noz and her team also selected new furniture throughout the home, some of which was initially outside my comfort zone, but ultimately really added the finishing touch to the overall vibe of the final space.
>
> I’ll just add to what others have said here already: For all her obvious design talent and accolades, Noz listens to her clients, is extremely practical, and is super fun to work with. She brings not just amazing design ideas and concepts but also a healthy perspective on the realities of construction. We had to scramble a few times with costs, pandemic delivery timelines, and many of the usual construction-related delays, and she always had good, practical solutions, while keeping the final design in mind. I think it’s a rare combination and I would not hesitate to recommend Noz and her team!

> We couldn't be happier with Noz and her team! Team Noz’s exceptionally creative and playful vision along with her professional approach resulted in a remarkable transformation of our storybook-style home in San Francisco, which now reflects our style, personality, and WOWS everyone who enters. It’s the trifecta! We wholeheartedly recommend and are huge fans of Noz Design!

**Comment from Noz Design:**

> Thank you so much for this very kind feedback, Bonnie! We have loved working with you and feel so lucky that we were the ones you chose to bring your vision of Home to life!!!!!

**★★★★★ — A D Rubin, Oct. 2023**

> Noz listens well, pays attention to detail and strives to create a space that suits the client. We absolutely love our remodel! The kitchen turned out better than we thought possible, the bathrooms are elegant, functional and FUN. Her team is responsive, proactive and highly capable. Her recommendations for our new offices were spot on and have proven to be a joy. But more important, Noz made sure we were comfortable with the designs and appliances chosen. She worked diligently to make sure we stayed in budget and her team (shout out to Kyle) made sure that our appliances, fixtures and hardware all arrived on time. It couldn’t have turned out better. Thank you so much Noz and team!

**Comment from Noz Design:**

> You ROCK. Thank you so much for the opportunity to be part of your amazing project. It means the world to me and the team that you love these spaces so much!!!!

**★★★★★ — Bing Chen, Oct. 2023**

> Noz is hands-down one of the most sophisticated, inventive, detailed, and joyful professionals I've worked with in any industry. She boasts an impeccably rare dexterity between maximal and minimal design instincts, anthropological and cultural intelligence, and a keen knack for overdelivering on budgets to any home. Plus, it's a joy to be able to work with someone whose star continues to skyrocket in the architectural industries! I very proudly tell my friends that my home is "Noz-designed and approved!"

**Comment from Noz Design:**

> WOW thank you so much for this v generous wonderful feedback!!! It is a TOTAL JOY to get to work with you and help bring to life a home that sustains + supports you! You are THE BEST.

**★★★★★ — HU-273414683, Feb. 2023**

> Noz and her team designed our restaurant space. Her design is fresh, innovative, playful and thoughtful. Her team is professional, responsive, punctual and quick on their feet.
> We will only use Noz Design. Can’t wait for our next project together!

**★★★★★ — Ariel Schuster, Oct. 2022**

> I have been dreaming of working with Noz for years, and as luck would have it she was working on the perfect project that would allow us to collaborate - a custom mosaic tile entryway for a fabulous vintage jewelry shop! As always Nozs' creative vision was stellar, but from a trade perspective I was so impressed and pleased by how concise, communicative, and collaborative she and her team were on all fronts! The final product was gorgeous, timeless, and effortlessly chic - I have my fingers crossed we have the chance to collaborate again in the future!

**★★★★★ — Zara Mathew, May 2022**

> Choosing Noz as our designer for our new home is one of the best decisions we've made and I could not recommend her more highly.
>
> When we first went searching for interior designers we were struck by how so many people produce very similar-looking work. Noz is distinctly not this type of designer. She oozes creativity and original thought in a way that is refreshing and inspiring. She is always creating spaces that are new and truly unique for her clients - rooms that meet their needs, echo their aesthetic spirit, and elevate the atmosphere of a home to heights that seem unimaginable. Noz did all of this for us and more. She took careful note of all our family's wants and needs, was patient with doing revisions to make everything perfect for us, and produced gorgeous results.
>
> Noz was wonderful to work with in every way possible - she is kind and so genuinely likable. She won over and befriended my children immediately. She takes pride in her work but also balances a sense of humility, being willing to consider other viewpoints and incorporate them into her work when needed. She works hard and is reliable when it comes to timelines (something that is SO hard to find in this world!). She is militant in adhering to a budget and keeps track of orders, costs and all correspondence with impressive meticulousness. She reliably responds to all emails promptly. All of the people in Noz's orbit who she sent to our home to paint, to woodwork, to hang pictures, install furniture, etc. are like her--kind, talented and hardworking--we always know that anyone she vouches for will do great work for us. Noz cares deeply about everything she does but even more importantly genuinely cares about the people and the greater world around her - she is always looking for ways to do good and to use her talents and her platform to help others.
>
> We are truly lucky to know Noz and to be able to work with her and now consider her a friend. Anyone who gets to work with Noz will certainly not regret the opportunity.

**★★★★★ — Tia C, May 2022**

> It has been an absolute pleasure working with Noz Design and her fantastic team! She was able to merge ideas from my husband and I who have totally different styles (I'm more muted, contemporary and he's more bold and modern) to make our home feel like the ultimate masterpiece. We began our interior design journey by providing rounds of feedback on Noz's design proposals. She created three iterations to help us visualize the potential of each space with different furniture options within our budget. She was super open to feedback and took detailed notes on our likes and dislikes until we reached a final agreement. She thankfully pushed me out of my comfort zone and we were able to include items with mix of textures, patterns and colors which integrates perfectly within each space.
>
> Her team handled the ordering and tracking of everything from: wallpaper, to complex furniture deliveries from Italy, to lighting shipments in accordance to our HOA guidelines. One of the unique features of our home is the subtly textured living rooms walls featuring plastered crocodile print with gold outlines. The wonderful staff at Caroline Lizarraga Decorative Painting completed the project in three weeks and were very meticulous in painting our unit.
>
> Due to the pandemic, some of our furniture was delayed but Noz and her team kept us informed on timing and we were able to coordinate keeping our older furniture in the meantime. Noz's vendor, George Elwell Trucking, provided superb white glove delivery service and made sure all of our items were inventoried, delivered and setup with no issues. They did this in conjunction with Kyle from Noz Design who inspected each piece of furniture on arrival for flaws so we never saw any issue. Sarah from Seams Perfect Wallcovering Installations did a fabulous job installing and crafting our custom Calico wallpaper to perfection!
>
> So to sum this all up, Noz and her design team completely transformed our space for the better. We are super grateful for using the services of someone with such a keen design eye who is thoughtful and equally talented. I never felt like a number and working with her was an absolute dream. Thank you for providing an unbelievable experience!

**Comment from Noz Design:**

> Thank you so so much Tia! It has been such a privilege and absolute JOY working with you both, and I am so grateful for your thoughtful and thorough feedback that I hope helps other folks see behind the scenes on some of our process. So very proud of what we designed for your home, but more importantly, so happy that you love it. THANK YOU.

**★★★★★ — Liza Hausman, June 2021**

> Not only is Noz a brilliant, creative designer and big thinker who is fun to work with, she also always has your best interests in mind and at heart. She knows where investment makes sense in beautiful things and to support local artisans but also how to do amazing things on a budget - and how to balance the two to make you feel great about the outcome both aesthetically and financially. Noz is a great choice for anyone (or family) that wants their home to absolutely delight them, to reflect who they are and to never be boring. Highly recommend.

**Comment from Noz Design:**

> Thank you SO MUCH for this review Liza!! It's been such fun to work with you and I'm honored to hear your thoughts on the budget-consciousness and artistic side of what we do :)

**★★★★★ — Jeff, May 2021**

> The thing about Noz, is that while she has a wild, crazy... MAXIMALIST streak, she appreciates classic architectural elements and aesthetic. So if find yourself lucky enough to live in a Victorian or Edwardian or Spanish Colonial home, but hope to update it, you'd be hard-pressed to find a designer who will help you celebrate it better—and f it up more—than Noz. That might sound crass, but I don't mean it to be. She has the utmost reverence for California, New York and the other cities in which she's worked. She's free of classism, as well. In conversation, she's equally excited about her studio apartment commissions, her multi-million-dollar homes and her commercial endeavors. It's just that Noz doesn't feel the need to play by the rules. I love that, so for me, she is a constantly-inspiring and fun human with whom to work.

**Comment from Noz Design:**

> Omg thank you so much Jeff for this review -- hahahahah it is both hilarious and means so much. It's been so so fun to collab with you on all of it, from space planning big picture scheming to rugs. You are the best!

**★★★★★ — Camila Fernandez, Oct. 2020**

> We found Noz on Houzz a couple of years ago because we needed some help designing the remodel of our kitchen and two bathrooms. We were drawn to her unique and vibrant style and positive reviews. Our experience with Noz far exceeded our expectations. Not only is she a wonderfully warm and positive person to work with, she has amazing ability to understand our aesthetic and come up with exciting designs. Our experience with past designers was a times frustrating, either because they would ignore our budget concerns or weren't open to critiques. Noz respected all our budget concerns and is easy to have an open dialogue with and the results are amazing. In fact, we had such a positive experience with our home remodel, we ended up hiring her to design our new restaurant and we are now using her to design our home outdoor space. We will continue to use her for any design projects.

**Comment from Noz Design:**

> Omg somehow I missed this review, but THANK YOU so much for this Camila!!!! It means so much that we've found each other and I remain so grateful that we've gotten to work together on both your home and your restaurant(s)! I love how open you are to ideas, come with your own rad vision + artistic sense, and how we bring that together in real life :)

**★★★★★ — Honeydew Concierge, Oct. 2020**

> I am a personal concierge, and I met Noz three years ago because we had a mutual client. I came into the fold midway through the design and remodel. I was quickly impressed with how she was able to blend my (opinionated!) client's eclectic taste with the unique features of a historic home, and still elevate the home's interiors with her own remarkable aesthetic.
>
> Not surprisingly this client's kitchen and living room landed in the pages of Sunset Magazine!
>
> Given the small world nature of client referrals, Noz and I have since shared clients and overlapped on projects. I've now witnessed her work from concept stage to completion. Her interiors are as accessible as they are sophisticated, and the level of imagination she brings to her interiors cross boundaries in the most stunning of ways.
>
> As an aside, she is also a joy to work with, whether it's the mundane (coordinating furniture receiving) or the trickier stuff (contractor management).
>
> I doubt I have the proper words to describe her style, but bar none comes to mind.

- [Haight Love House](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/haight-love-house-pj-vj~7891641)
  - Location: San Francisco, CA
  - Photos: 23
  - Description: This gorgeous young San Francisco family found their dream house to settle into, and we were the lucky ones chosen to turn each space and floor into their colorful, pattern-rich, sweet nostalgic home. While this well-kept Victorian did not need much renovation, it was lacking in storage and warmth on the main level; so we created custom built-ins for the dining room, foyer, and family room, and we replaced the previous commercial stainless steel counters and backsplash in the kitchen with stone…
- [Japanese Victorian](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/japanese-victorian-pj-vj~7891645)
  - Location: San Francisco, CA
  - Photos: 16
  - Description: This circa-1900 Victorian condo in Hayes Valley was fully gut-renovated and furnished in a materially rich, Japanese minimalist design. Our client, a fellow Japanese American, had lived for over 12 years in this home before it was time for a transformation that would bring a peaceful, effortlessly inviting energy to each space. It was a very rewarding effort to marry the remaining original architecture with the client’s own style and functional needs. Without a formal foyer, we created built-in…

  - Location: San Francisco, CA
  - Photos: 44
  - Description: This property, a classic San Francisco Rousseau “Storybook” house from the 1930s, had outstanding bones but required a complete gut renovation to make it the perfect home for our clients, a young active family whose first home we were lucky enough to design as well. The original house featured a few Tudor arches, which we thoughtfully resized and incorporated throughout the main living spaces, from repeating arches in the entry and dining space to the silhouettes in the kitchen cabinets; downsta…

  - Description: BOTANICAL COW HOUSE The beautiful family who moved into this San Francisco historic landmark, the Ortman-Shumate house, had a vision of a home that embodied their effortless mix of styles and tastes. With Italian and Indian family ancestry and a love of a broad diversity of antiques eras, silhouettes, colors, and patterns, it was an absolute joy for our team to create each room, which layered up to an overall energy throughout the house that feels like easy breathing – as if these spaces were co…

  - Description: This cabin is the Designer and her husband’s beloved home in Kings Beach, North Lake Tahoe. The couple found the property in 2017, falling in love with its bones and soul, and also being delighted that the house had not been renovated since it was built in 1972 (an interior designer’s guilt-free remodeling dream). Over the next 6 years (but if you ask Noz, the project perhaps is never-ending!), they gut-renovated and decorated every room in the house, imbuing these spaces with their take on nost…

  - Description: This bright + joyful house in Prospect Lefferts Garden is Noz Design’s first completed project in New York. Our clients, a wonderfully creative couple, moved in, commissioned a mural of a mermaid and orca by artist Eelco Vandenberg, and then found us. Completed over a few years, we began our design work remotely during the pandemic, and continued as the family welcomed their first! This project has been a true collaboration of the most rewarding kind – from our clients to their artist friends, t…

  - Location: San Francisco, CA
  - Photos: 19
  - Description: If ever there were a family who was meant to live inside a technicolor fantasia, it would be our vibrant clients – a San Francisco family of four who’ve declared this Edwardian house their dream home! We were absolutely thrilled to have the opportunity to design their main hosting floor and central staircase, transforming via tiles and color and contemporary swooping lines, an otherwise stately and formal (and very off-white!) developer-restored manse. The design brief was, simply, “Rainbow.” An…

  - Description: Our wonderful clients, a vibrant family who made the migration from San Francisco to Mill Valley, chose a breathtaking, singular property on which, in place of 1 single home, five separate houses and small cottages (each with their own architectural style!) dot the landscape. This setup posed an incredibly unique opportunity for us to define distinct ways of living and hosting in each structure, allowing each building to be its own experience, while developing a consistent aesthetic language whi…

They asked our team to create a cohesive vision for their common spaces that would “bridge” their distinct ideas, while manifesting his + hers office spaces that could be full representations of their own unique tastes. - Location: San Francisco, CA

  - Description: What started as a kitchen + two-bathroom renovation expanded into a full gut renovation of this modern family house with spectacular views of San Francisco. Our clients, who have connections to Japan, chose our team to interpret traditional Japanese home design in ways that celebrated California-local materials and complemented the western modernity of the house’s architecture (while being very practical for an active family: the serenity of these spaces belies all the storage we added!). A modern ranch house all on one level, we created a versatile aesthetic language in which the lofty indoor + outdoor hosting spaces take on a monochromatic sculptural style – while the private bedroom and office spaces on the perimeter of the house each have their own dramatic, eclectic signature. - Location: San Francisco, CA
  - Photos: 15
  - Description: In 2016, a thoroughly San Francisco family of 5 brought me on to create fun, flexible hosting spaces in their front formal living room and dining room. Their vision was to create a home where the family could host versatile gatherings, from grown-up dinner parties, to kid-friendly game nights. A walnut ping pong dining table set the tone for their dining room, and we transformed the formal living room from an impromptu storage area into a luxe, versatile space for entertaining. - Description: Our creative, delightful clients – a human couple and their 2 cats – chose us to renovate the kitchen and bathroom of their Edwardian flat in the Inner Sunset neighborhood of San Francisco. Lucky for us, they also decided to add their beautiful dining room to the design scope as well! The dining room’s original dark wood paneling + moulding were so beautiful that, even though the clients gave us free reign to paint, we designed with the intention of preserving the architectural details (you migh…

  - Description: Originally the Potrero Hill firehouse for the San Francisco Fire Department, this building retired to become a Mission-style home for a young family of 4. Its hosting spaces were architecturally beautiful and only needed furnishings, finishes, and lighting; but the functional spaces – the kitchen, family room, and master bathroom – needed major renovation to make them practical. We removed the wall separating the kitchen from the family room, to create a flexible, casual everyday open concept sp…

  - Description: House Beautiful invited Noz Design to design and bring to life a room in their 2020 Whole Home Concept House, in Franktown, Colorado. The new-construction 5,400 square foot house featured 11 interior design teams’ concepts; ours was the front half of the large downstairs bonus room. Inspired by the effortless coziness of 1970’s home design and the literal coziness of Japanese heated kotatsu tables (the origins of which date back to 15th-century Japan), we created two lounge + cuddle zones in our…
