> The most unprofessional person I've had the misfortune of dealing with. Roula Masouras came in yelling to review a bathroom renovation required by the coop - am not exaggerating at all when I say she was yelling. After several minutes of just yelling, I had to ask her to be quiet so I can at least respond to her questions. Anywhere else that kind of tone to a client would get you fired. I had inquired with my coop on how long the review would take & how much it would cost, I was told about 1-1.5 hours. It's a standard Mahattan bathroom (5'x8'). She billed me for 9.5 hours! And of that 3.5 hours for the visit which she spent no more than 10 mins for her 2 visits. Atrocious. DO NOT HIRE THIS UNETHICAL COMPANY that still employs someone like this and follows such practices.

**★★★★★ — Marilyn McCormack, Nov. 2016**

> Ethelind is fantastic. She is a real professional -- knowledgeable about every aspect of getting a job done, and a creative problem-solver. She is also easygoing, collaborative, down-to-earth, and fun to work with. Everyone in her shop is top-flight, including her wonderful interior design team.

**★★★★★ — Lorelle Futterweit, Nov. 2016**

> Excellence. Professionalism. Responsiveness. Attentiveness to Detail. We were fortunate to have been referred to Ethelind Coblin for an apartment combination, and then interior design. Ethelind Coblin herself responded immediately to our initial inquiry, understood exactly what needed to be done, oversaw every detail, resulting in a project that was completed in a timely, seamless manner. Her interior designer, Liz Romano, has extraordinary aesthetic sense and has created beautiful rooms, again paying attention to every detail. I recommend highly this firm and these two masters of their crafts.

**★★★★★ — Rusk Renovations, Nov. 2016**

> With a rare combination of design ability, aesthetic sensibility, and detail mastery, Ethelind and her team produce exceptional residential and commercial projects and also undertake design reviews for many of the city’s most prominent buildings. We feel particularly privileged to have worked with Ethelind on the renovation of a historically significant landmark house in Riverdale. Precise to the point of legend, Ethelind and her team are enthusiastic problem solvers and collaborators.

**Comment from Ethelind Coblin Architect P.C:**

> Thanks, John, Always a pleasure working with you! The professionalism you bring to the project ensures a positive experience throughout construction and a happy client at the end of the process.

> Under the exceptional leadership of Architect Maria Suri, my Manhattan apartment renovation, which included the living room, dining room and kitchen, was nothing short of FIRST-RATE! At every step of the way, from the creative and functional design- to the utmost attention to detail and schedule, Maria and the staff at Ethelind Coblin, never disappointed with results reflecting the highest quality of service and professionalism. No problem was unsolvable, and my small kitchen was designed in such a fashion that every "wish list" item was incorporated without sacrificing a sleek and spacious look!
> Coupled with the attentiveness given to my ideas and needs, the ALWAYS responsive and reliable service provided by Maria Suri and the staff of Ethelind Coblin met EVERY standard for EXCELLENCE! I would strongly recommend Ethelind Coblin, without reservation, to anyone looking for a top-notch architectural/design firm. I am only sorry that I cannot give MORE than 5 stars to this outstanding firm!!

> I engaged Ethelind Coblin firm to design and oversee the complete renovation of my three bedroom, two bath pre-war apartment. I worked with Ethelind and Roula on the architecture/design/construction oversight elements and primarily with Ethelind and Liz on the interior design.
>
> From the start, Ethelind, Roula and Liz spent substantial time with me to get an understanding of the general ideas I had/style I wanted for the apartment and then used that information to put together a design that accomplished everything (and more) than I had been looking for. They made great and unique suggestions on the floor plans, stone, lighting, fixtures, textures, colors and furnishings that fit perfectly with the general ideas I had communicated to them.
>
> During both the architecture/interior design and construction management phases of the project, Ethelind and her team were incredibly detail orientated and dogged in making sure my project was done exactly as envisioned. And, their guidance in picking a contractor (Ari Group, Inc.) and the relationship between Ethelind and her team and the contractor was invaluable. They were extremely professional, friendly and responsive and the attention to detail that they put into every aspect of the project shows in the quality of the final result and the fact that the project was completed with de minimis cost increases to the original construction budget.
>
> Overall, Ethelind, Roula and Liz made the entire design and completion of my project an enjoyable experience. I greatly enjoyed working with them throughout the entire process.
>
> I give Ethelind, Roula and Liz the highest marks for their professionalism, level of service and the quality of their work and strongly recommend them to anyone in need of an architect/interior designer for their renovation project. If I ever have another renovation project I would only work with Ethelind and her team.

> Ethelind and her team planned and supervised a rather extensive renovation of a pre-war upper west side apartment that I purchased in estate condition. They listened to my ideas, and followed through with suggestions that helped me improve my original concepts. They were respectful of my budget and my time, but were always available to communicate and explain. If I had a problem, they kept working on the issue until I was satisfied. Ethelind came up with elegant solutions to practical problems (ductwork, beams, etc. arrgghh.) and sophisticated aesthetic designs (new fireplace surround and mantel). She consulted me as much as I wanted to be consulted, and efficiently used the junior members of her team to keep costs under control. She used knowledgeable and proficient workrooms and contractors. I am gearing up to do some minor refreshing of the project (which is now several years old) and am looking forward to working with Ethelind and her team again.

**★★★★★ — ethankaufman, Feb. 2014**

> Ethelind and her team were outstanding architects on our home renovation, which posed numerous technical challenges owing the the building's age (1906) and landmark status. She was patient and thoughtful in creating designs that met our needs while understanding our desire to be minimally destructive of the orignal layout and retain all pre-war details and ceiling heights, while also keeping to a restricted budget. The end result could not be better from our persepctive. She and her team were attentive throughout the process including the follow through to monitor the GC implementation and address a few unforeseeable construction challenges that arose along the way. Even after the fact I have contacted Etheline's office on issues unrelated to the project and they have been responsive and helpful.

**★★★★★ — Meg, Feb. 2014**

> Combined two apartments into one. Ethelind and Roula did an excellent job creating hidden storage space and making the apartment appear spacious and light, with clean lines. They found beautiful stones, woods, and tiles, and they worked well with the contractor to ensure that their vision was realized. I would definitely hire them again!

  - Description: In purchasing an adjacent apartment, our clients had the good fortune that the living rooms backed up with shared fireplaces. This allowed for the creation of an open and flowing living area centered around a fireplace on one side and the family’s entertainment center on the other. The project was phased to allow the family to live in designated areas of the apartment during construction. When at the very end the demising wall finally came down, the spaciousness and lightness of this newly combi…

  - Description: This pre-war on the Upper West Side was in need of an upgrade. It was caked with off-white paint and unimpressive. Although the Kitchen had been renovated not too long ago, the room was enclosed and felt small. We opened up the apartment and imbued it with the sparkle and flair it was so needing. The Kitchen opens up to the Family/Dining Room and the Family/Dining opens up to the Living Room which were closed off previously so the space flows and is comfortable, a real home. - Description: This bathroom located in an 1880’s Victorian Coop was very complex, involving extensive plumbing reconfiguration, waterproofing, soundproofing, firestopping and fire proofing and substantial structural repair. You don’t see any of this work in these photos, but it lies just behind the carefully selected finishes. There is drama in the stone which is book matched, yet, there is a great serenity in the resolution of the juxtaposition of finishes. Even though the functions of the stall shower, the…

  - Description: Our goal for the comprehensive renovation of this apartment was to maintain the vocabulary of this majestic pre-war structure. We enlarged openings and added transoms above to allow the infiltration of daylight into the Foyer. We created a Library in a deep saturated mahogany and completely replaced the Kitchen and Pantry, which were vintage 1960’s. Several years later, our client asked to have her home office relocated to the Living Room. We modified the layout, locating the office along the no…

  - Description: This is our fourth project for this client who purchased a four-bedroom unit in this grand old turn of the century Landmark that had been neglected through the years. Our goal was to restore its former grandeur while providing for our client’s lifestyle. Designed in the classic Victorian style, we removed layers of paint uncovering mahogany doors, oak wainscoting and tile fireplaces. We restored and created new profiles to bring back the richness of detail and bathed the rooms in golden tones to b…

  - Description: Located in The Century, Manhattan’s premiere Art Deco structure, our design approach looked to re-interpret the deco style, incorporating a more modern vocabulary, as we worked closely with our clients to assure that every detail enhanced the overall concept. The diamond detailing on the millwork is in tribute to Ruhlman, our color palate of dark millwork, cream colored walls, nickel and black scalloped detailing is deco at heart but sleekly minimal. The subdued palate is consistent throughout w…

  - Description: The existing Georgian mansion, located in this Landmarked district, had remained largely untouched since the early 1960s. The gut renovation included an enlargement and modernization of the kitchen and family room, a new children’s play area and reconfigured service stair. The main stair was restored and second-floor landing was enlarged and opened to provide daylight to the center of the house. Here, a welcoming sitting area leads to a reconfigured master bedroom and dressing suite, a study, be…

  - Description: This Kitchen on the Second Floor of a gorgeous pre-war on Central Park West was dark and dated. Our design challenge was to re-create the elegance of 285 and provide light and sparkle. The Kitchen functions as the hub of the house; it provides dining for this family of four, serves as a study as well as an entertainment zone.

  - Description: We combined a series of poorly conceived closets to create a larger Master Bath and connected Walk-in-Closet. As this is an internal space, we brought in natural light through a truncated skylight that extends through the attic to the roof, which enlivens the space and provides a freshness to the quality of light. - Description: This 1930’s Deco building was converted from a hospital to a condominium in the 1980’s. The lobby which was renovated at the same time was ponderous and dark, incorporating heavy horizontal detailing and cheap glitzy brass banding. Our goal was to re-establish the grandeur of the Main Lobby. We created a domed space, which houses a bold, breathtaking pendant fixture. The scalloped plaster molding, mirror treatment and floor design reaffirm the Deco style. The color palate of silver, bronze, lime…

Originally the river side shared equal importance as brokers travelled by boat to Wall Street.
