> I hired him through my the contractor ( Zito remodeling) for a remodeling project of my house. Showed quite a bit of interest and once he took the advance was very poor in response. Finally six months later, the plan was submitted to the city which was totally incomplete. When it was brought to his attention, there was no activity from his side. After spending moths again, few of his ex partners ( who were not even paid by him and they had to split for whatever reasons) were able to complete the job and I have to pay almost double and end up wasting tons of time with him.

> We are currently gut renovating a single family home. It has been a fairly ambitious remodel.  Structurally, we've moved a load bearing staircase, reconfigured the entire back elevation, added a bedroom and powder room, and removed a balcony from the back elevation. We've also completely remodeled the kitchen and all bathrooms.

He's very knowledgeable and thinks creatively to solve difficult problems.  Brett quickly responds to phone calls and emails. Brett is an active listener and you walk away from each conversation feeling like your wishes were heard and will be executed.  He gave me realistic timeframes, even though I may not have liked the answer.  He was honest and transparent throughout the entire project. I may have gone completely insane without his help. > I wanted to build a small art studio behind my house in the Tower District and when I inquired at city hall how to go about getting started, they looked at my lot to see if I had enough open space, then said hire a designer, get some plans drawn up, then come down to talk to us. Because I'm in a historic neighborhood, I wanted to (and was required to) have the addition match the house and detached garage as much as possible. After using a home design program and coming up with the general outline of what we wanted, I had Brett Taylor design the building. He was great at working with the elements we wanted (same roof line, vertical windows, etc.) while keeping the project within code and within budget. Brett then shepherded the project through the permitting process which was well worth the additional cost. As a first time owner-builder, I had no idea how critical the prints Brett drew up would be to the overall success of the project, but all the details were included in the drawings and the inspector referenced them on every visit. Brett was very professional and easy to work with, and I would highly recommend him for this type of work. My one regret on the project was I didn't get framing plans drawn up, and decided to do my own. That was a lot more work than I anticipated, and having someone who knows what they're doing draw them up would have saved me time in the building part--but that was my fault and not Brett's. Overall working with Taylor Design was a great experience and I highly recommend him.
