## Selected projects

- [Windermere Family House](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/windermere-family-house-pj-vj~6573817)
  - Location: Not specified

  - Description: We teamed up with Conard Romano Architects and Susan Marinello Interiors to create a new home for a couple and their young children on a Lake Washington waterfront property that had been in the family for decades. The house sits comfortably beneath a canopy of tall trees, at some remove from the waterfront, affording the family a large yard for outdoor activities. The house feels traditional on the outside (if you don’t count the rooftop array of solar panels) and more contemporary on the inside…
- [Field House](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/field-house-pj-vj~5914101)
  - Location: Not specified

  - Description: To construct this new house in the San Juan Islands, one of two houses we built on the same property, a Schultz Miller crew of 16 lived on island for two years. The clients asked architects Margaret Menter and Patrick Byrne for a house that felt at home in the Pacific Northwest while recalling classic beach houses of Cape Cod and Long Island. The resulting design offers both “prospect” and “refuge” (as the architects put it), orienting outward toward the ocean with a sweeping front deck and expa…

  - Description: To construct this new house in the San Juan Islands, one of two houses we built on the same property, a Schultz Miller crew of 16 lived on island for two years. The clients asked architects Margaret Menter and Patrick Byrne for a house with a modern look and feel, but still in keeping with its island setting. The house has the same cedar shingles and standing-seam metal roofing as the more traditional houses on the property, but it has a paired down aesthetic and is composed of simple house form…

  - Description: We collaborated with DeForest Architects and Ore Studios to update a 1930s Tudor, retaining the qualities that give the home its vintage character while reimagining the interior flow and indoor-outdoor connections. To preserve and enhance the character of the original Tudor, we repointed the brickwork and sourced matching brick from a demolished Seattle building for chimney extensions and new garden walls that felt like they were always there. To improve the flow of the interior, we installed st…

  - Description: We worked closely with architect Rick Sundberg and the team at Sundberg Kennedy Ly-Au Young Architects to create a well-crafted, open home with dramatic views of Puget Sound. The house was designed for a couple who enjoys making and displaying crafts and entertaining family and friends. It features a soaring multipurpose space and includes a detached garage/workshop with a studio apartment above it. Natural materials are used throughout, including Port Orford cedar, rift-sawn oak, and Amarosa li…

  - Description: When our clients decided to build themselves a new house on the lot next door to their current house, which we had remodeled years ago, they again chose to work with Prentiss + Balance + Wickline Architects, Holly McKinley Interior Design, and Schultz Miller. As a team, we were comfortable with each other, and, just as importantly, we understood the challenges of the extremely steep hillside site and small buildable area. Simply getting the house up out of the ground required a complex concrete…

- [Island House](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/island-house-pj-vj~3023122)
  - Location: Not specified
  - Photos: 17
  - Description: A fire destroyed a family cottage that had stood on an island in Puget Sound for generations. Thankfully no one was hurt, but the homeowner saw an opportunity to build an updated retreat for herself and her extended family. Architect Steve Hoedemaker and his team configured the house as a series of smaller, connected house sections, so it would feel like a home that grew with additions over time. Schultz Miller worked hard to construct the house so that it would live easy. We installed a standin…
- [Art House](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/art-house-pj-vj~3024443)
  - Location: Not specified
  - Photos: 21
  - Description: From its inception, this was a house designed around art, conceived of as both a home and a gallery for the display of an extensive private collection of paintings, sculpture, and works in glass. Before we began building the house, architects Olson Kundig created virtual models to study and refine the placement of specific pieces throughout the house and grounds. As builders, our charge was not only to construct a complex modern house to exacting standards but to install museum-level lighting te…
- [Broadmoor Remodel](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/broadmoor-remodel-pj-vj~3024743)
  - Location: Not specified
  - Photos: 14
  - Description: The homeowners wanted an unobtrusive house that would keep within the scale and aesthetic of the neighborhood, so they opted for a top-to-bottom remodel rather than tear down the existing home. Architect Tyler Engle gave the house a quiet but thoughtful design in a pared down Hamptons Style. With an exterior that is deliberately understated, small details, like the mitered outside corners of the shingles, take on added importance, as does the quality and finish of the shingles themselves. The in…
- [Elliott Bay View Condo](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/elliott-bay-view-condo-pj-vj~3030768)
  - Location: Not specified
  - Photos: 12
  - Description: Designer Maryika Byskiniewicz conceived of this condo as “an ocean liner in the sky,” with built-in storage that ensures an open interior, affording the owners airy views of downtown Seattle and Puget Sound. To enable the main living spaces to take full advantage of the expansive windows, we relocated the kitchen and master bath toward the interior of the unit. In a condo with fixed drain and vent stacks, this required detailed planning and coordination. We succeeded so well in large part becaus…
- [Lake Washington House](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/lake-washington-house-pj-vj~1770150)
  - Location: Not specified
  - Photos: 22
  - Description: Working with architect Stan Hanson and designer Terry Hunziker, Schultz Miller remodeled a 6,000-sq.-ft. contemporary house on the western shore of Lake Washington and then built a 9,000-sq.-ft. house beside it that serves as a counterpoint to the original home while making its own, bold statement. The new home features soaring walls of board-formed concrete, disappearing sliding glass doors, and a pool that slips inside under a glass overhead door. A geothermal system supplies heating and cooli…
- [Cedar Park House](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/cedar-park-house-pj-vj~591081)
  - Location: Not specified
  - Photos: 23
  - Description: For this new, 6,700-sq.-ft. house, the Schultz Miller team worked with architects Peter Cohan and Tom Maul to construct a building that is wedded to its site. Along with local materials such as cedar and fir, the house features short a series of short staircases that follows the slope of the land. A 98-ft.-long window wall further blurs the distinction between the generous patio and the main living spaces. Many elements are fastened with concealed fasteners, which makes details appear simple and…
- [Waterfront House](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/waterfront-house-pj-vj~589689)
  - Location: Not specified
  - Photos: 20
  - Description: Architect Jack Smith of Sun Valley and Stillwell Hanson Architects of Seattle worked with the Schultz Miller team to craft this timber framed house on a commanding waterfront site. The plan interposes a central core of double height spaces between inner and outer courtyards framed by flanking wings. Columns and beams were made from grain matched Douglas fir glulams, giving the house the beauty of live timber with the stability of engineered wood. Custom glazing and flashing systems were designed…
- [Clyde Hill House](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/clyde-hill-house-pj-vj~1770907)
  - Location: Not specified
  - Photos: 11
  - Description: This new home in Clyde Hill, designed by architects Anne Adams and Stuart Silk, with an interior design by Patricia Schlapp, is based on the 19th-Century Classical Revival style reflecting the homeowners’ desire for a house that would look like it had been in the family for generations. Robust columns and pilasters, beadboard walls, and substantial trim details inside and out lend the house an air of timeless quality. Durable cedar roof shingles and cedar siding ensure the house will last well i…
- [Harbor House](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/harbor-house-pj-vj~1770448)
  - Location: Not specified
  - Photos: 24
  - Description: Seattle architect Tom Lawrence designed this contemporary home in response to the challenges and unique potentials of a site on the city’s Magnolia shoreline. Extensive piling and foundation work provide sturdy anchorage for a three level residence which overlooks shipping lanes and brings the spirit of the sea indoors. Douglas fir timbers and cedar siding were finished to weather naturally in the marine air. Interior designer Nancy Ralston chose muted colors and textures to complement the Puget…
- [Lake Forest Park Remodel](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/lake-forest-park-remodel-pj-vj~1767909)
  - Location: Not specified
  - Photos: 18
  - Description: With this thorough interior and exterior remodel, a dated 1960s ranch house in Lake Forest Park has been reborn as a luminous pavilion in tune with its woodland site. Schultz Miller worked closely with architect Nils Finne to create a Northwest home with a quiet yet powerful presence in the landscape. The exterior of the house was re-clad with narrow strips of clear cedar, and light monitors were added to the roof, supplying much-needed natural light. Inside, the house features clear fir and hem…
- [Belltown Loft](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/belltown-loft-pj-vj~5492527)
  - Location: Not specified
  - Photos: 12
  - Description: The owners desired a blend of modern elements and rustic features to emphasize the “loft” feel. They accomplished this with metal-clad barn doors and acid-washed walnut plank floors with an oil finish. Unique pendant lighting provides a modern touch and warm illumination after the sun sets. A glass tile backsplash and Ceasarstone counters complete the look and provide a low maintenance workspace in the kitchen. A monochromatic color scheme highlights and emphasizes the clients' vibrant art colle…

  - Location: Not specified

  - Description: The homeowners weren’t parking cars in their garage, and their children wanted a fun indoor space for artwork and exercising, especially the daughter who loves gymnastics. So was born the Garage Gym, a playful space designed by architect Margaret Menter. The open space has and plenty of room for tumbling and letting off steam. Steel beams easily support the weight of rings, ropes, and swinging kids. There’s a sink for cleaning up after art projects, and a half bath tucked behind a sliding chalkb…
