The Ruhl Walker team capitalized on these unusual circumstances and created a uniquely beautiful finished space with two bedrooms and two baths, including an amazing master bath with oversized tiled shower. In addition to creating a beautiful space, the team also did a tremendous job of interior decorating. All of this was accomplished within our agreed-upon budget and on time. I have to also comment that the team was amply supported by an impressive builder, Paquette & Associates, whose good nature was an unexpected positive experience for this home owner. The project involved redoing all the systems - plumbing, electrical, HVAC, the works - and doing an astounding quantity of general repairs, replastering and painting, and floor refinishing throughout, as well as significantly reconfiguring about 1/3 of the first floor to create a kitchen/great room with a wall of steel windows to the back yard, all while protecting and restoring original detail. (This required foundation work to shore up the footings below some enclosed porches, removal of a back staircase and an unused chimney that went up four stories from the basement, reframing the entire back of the house, and much, much more.) Ruhl Walker also planned further phases of the renovation, to be executed in future years (e.g., redoing the third floor). Despite the overwhelming scale of the project, which took nearly a year, I can say that we do not have a single bad thing to say about Ruhl Walker. We worked primarily with Brad Walker and Keith Case, and both are exceptionally smart, insightful, creative, professional, attentive, responsive, and just plain really good people. When things were difficult - as is inevitable on such a project - Brad and Keith were unfailingly calm and helpful, both making us feel like things would be okay, and finding solutions to make them so. Their design work was everything we could have asked for (and we asked for a lot), and their project stewardship was just indispensable.
