A: Hi Lori. It was one of the Marathon mixes; I don't remember which one. **Q: How deep is this pool and how do you filter the sand out?** *(in Photo Questions)* A: I believe the pool is 6' deep, Theresa, but I did not install it and it was done a number of years ago. Other than regular filters the owner uses a mobile suction pool cleaner. There is no loose sand in or around the pool, only a pebble tech coating in the pool and stone around the outside. **Q: Pond** *(in Photo Questions)* Does this pool or pond is natural or manmade? A: It's a swimming pool and it was constructed by the Preston Brothers from Los Angeles. This is just the kind of question a really good, naturalistic pool designer loves to hear! **Q: Slope and steps** *(in Photo Questions)* What is the slope/grade you are working with here? How did you put the slate in the ground for steps? Thanks. A: In all honesty, I don't remember what the grade was in this area but for the most part the whole area was quite steep, some areas we flattened a bit for heavier planting. The stone slabs were set on road base with a layer of sand. They have not shifted much over the years. **Q: How big are the Wagon wheels?** *(in Photo Questions)* I want this look and found wheels that are 31". is that large enough to accomplish the look? A: These were made of wood, sealed, and with a metal band inside to help stabilize the shape of the wood. **Q: trish** *(in Photo Questions)* Just curious how wide are the Wagon wheels? I want that look and found some that are 31" but not sure if that's big enough. A: These wheels were 40" but there are no rules. Any size can be made to work depending on the look you want. Smaller wheels will likely look better spaced a bit closer. For stability, the wheels were cut as half wheels and braced across the base diameter with screwed metal strips. Holes in the flat metal allowed stakes to be driven into the ground deeply. The metal also served to protect the wood from rotting.
