**Q: Corten steel roof??** *(in Photo Questions)*

I wanted to inquire about the steel roof.  Was wondering if you could provide me with the maker/model or supplier.  Is it a natural rust or printed metal??

A: In response to the question about the rusted roof: Its actually a standard non galvanized corrugated steel roof that was chemically treated to rust. Out here in Colorado the dry climate actually impedes rust so we stimulate it with a chemical application. You can then stop the rusting with an applied clear coat finish or just let the panels rust. 30 - 50 years from now they may need a new roof if we just allow it to rust. This would not work in a more humid climate but does work in a more arid climate like Boulder, Co.

Which company made and installed those stairs?

A: Stairs and rails are all custom . Designed by my firm, Roth Sheppard Architects.

**Q: What would the total cost of this project run?** *(in Photo Questions)*

I am living in Los Angeles. An approximate range would be more than sufficient.

A: cost would depend on exiting conditions, whether retaining wall is necessary, type of plantings desired, site conditions etc. This site had the concrete retaining walls in place. We sandblasted them and added everything else you see in the images. Cost was approximately $15,000.

**Q: where did you get the hardware to put up the floating stairs?** *(in Photo Questions)*

Just have two steps going up to an addition, would like to get this look.

A: In response to your question regarding  hardware , it is all custom detailed in house including handrail and tread supports and stringer. Thanks for asking. Jeff Sheppard, AIA

I live in Toronto.  If I purchase the plans from you, do you know of anyone who can make it for me?  If not, what type of firm should I be looking for?

A: Hi Svitlana,
Try searching for concrete countertop vendors in your area and landscape architects.  Also, Google ' outdoor concrete fireplace tables'.  It is best to try to use someone local in your area and select someone who has experience in doing outdoor fireplaces. (note: concrete tends to crack due to the differential temperature between the hot fire and the cold concrete. The installation requires special concrete as well as more joints to allow for expansion).
