Would love some design pointers as to what I should do with this great space. Was thinking a nice chair, table lamp, nice piece of wall art. Let me know what you think :) A: Wow, you are talented in carpentry! First, I'd use a good oil based primer, like a kilz, and then remove the air vent, and all the switch plates. Take them outside and lightly sand then prime and paint them same color as your wall. All you would need is the sample size from Lowe's which always comes in a satin finish. 2.95 will change the look completely. After you apply your espresso stain, I'd accessorize with a unique antique mirror or a large round mirror, add a trailing potted plant which also has height, and two more unique trinkets which really speak to you. If it's in your budget, a beautiful wool area rug in a 5 x 6 foot size, and voilà you're done...for now. **Q: Can't seem to pull it all together?** *(in Design Dilemma)* Small B.C. mountain retreat. Any ideas for wall decor, Should i put up shelves? If so what colour? Or Pic's? Going for a modern cottage appeal, I think? Also, What to do above the fireplace? Should I put up more stone like wall left of windows, and if so both walls behind FP or just wall to right? Curtains, What colour?Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated. Finding grey extremely difficult to decorate with. Don't want room to feel cold. A: Hi. Aren't you blessed to have a mountain retreat:-) ! I can't fully get the picture of the entire room, but somehow, I feel you need to work on he furniture layout. There need to be more groupings' or conversation areas. Next, I think you are on a great path with your color scheme of grey and weathered brown. I'd add red and carefully placed black to wear it all together. Red based pillows spread throughout, but not all matching. They need a nubby or chunky or furry texture. A much larger rug with red, browns, greys and blacks to at least secure a conversation grouping. Definitely a great piece of unique art or vintage red skis or sled over sofa or on brick wall. Ceiling to floor curtain panels on a 2 inch diameter wood fluted rod with a wood ball finial. Paint it red, then lightly sand it and go back over it with a walnut stain to mute the red a bit and tie in your wood tones. For the curtains, I'd go with a west elm catalog velvet panel. You could further accentuate the red by purchasing a fringey trim to glue onto the inside edge of the center panels. Trim would be blend of all your colors. **Q: Wall color for bathroom** *(in Design Dilemma)* We just moved into this beautiful house, and this bathroom's colors are not my style. I plan to remove the strip of wood across the wall, as well as the beveled mirror borders at the tops and bottoms of all three mirrors. The window faces north, so I'd like to maximize natural light by painting the walls and door a light neutral color. I have no idea whether to go with a warm or cool, based on the colors of the counter, floor tile, shower tile, and maple cabinet. Maybe I'm making something simple into a difficult task, but I don't know much about painting, and there are so many colors to choose from. I need some advice, please. A: Hello. I know you're going to have so much fun playing with your new house. Another paint color that may go well in here is by valspar at Lowe's... it's called Au Lait Ole'...kind of a coffee/creamer shade. I ave several clients where we've used this in bathrooms with similar palettes as yours. And I echo the other poster's suggestion of fluffy white towels. **Q: Help picking colors** *(in Design Dilemma)* Need help with my kitchen wall colors.It is a vacation home an just want to make it look warm an relaxing.planning on putting in wood lam flooring painting all trim white,lite stained bead board of some kind,leaving cabinets white,was thinking of painting the walls a blue,or a gray.But really need some advise A: Hi there. Fun project ahead. Two paint colors I'd suggest would be : Benj Moore Wedgewood grey...it'sa beautiful blue/grey that would look really fresh in there. Or, Valspar Au Lait Ole'... a warm mid-tone creamy brown that really makes white POP.
