> We're a retired Connecticut couple living in the same lakeside house for over 40 years.  Initially a summer place, it has suffered "improvements" by multiple owners.  Over time we mended what we could with small projects and big ones, depending on finances.  Now, with age catching up with us, another version was needed, this time taking into account our years but retaining the feel of the home we had created, with its collection of art and travel mementos.  We decided to start with the main bathroom, bathrooms being notorious for tripping up the elderly.
> For our general contractor we selected Funk & Little; Chuck Funk and Dave Little have been doing business in our area for a quarter-cedntury, and their reputation was solid.  Chuck was the one who took us on.  He'd done bathrooms before, of course, but nothing quite like what we had in mind.  Fortunately, he's was a good listener, and a good questioner.  In fact, he seemed to relish the challenge, and started with a bang:  gutting our existing bathroom down to its bare bones.
> It was a small bathroom, and we needed -- wanted -- more room.  To achieve that, Chuck jettisoned the bathtub, gaining space and eliminating a safety hazard.  Win-win.  He replaced the original door with a pocket door, thereby permitting access for a wheelchair, if ever needed.  Early on we all agreed to wall-mount the custom-made vanity, toilet and built-in shower bench.  Easier to clean the floor.  A sturdy grand bar runs 3/4s of the way around the room.  The sink extending from the vanity will accommodate a person in a wheelchair.  The mirror, which has a built-in defogger, is flanked by two bring dimmable lights, and the tile floor is slip-proof and heated.
> That's pretty much the safety features, now the symphony.  LED lights in the dropped ceiling slowly change prismatic colors, and a solar tube brings sunlight directly into the shower area.  A gorilla glass panel separates the toilet from the shower area -- which has no enclosure, no curb and doesn't need them.  Niches with shelves border the shower array, and additional LEDs are hidden in the niches so as to reflect against a checkerboard backing.  Shelves display works of art and relics from the sea.  Larger shelves above the heated shower bench hold a giant starfish, live plant, geode and other natural items, plus a somewhat eerie frog which oversees the entire show.
> Was all this easy?  No.  Sequencing was critical, as were the skilled and committed workers Chuck brought in;  his overall attention and leadership were invaluable.  Was it worth it?  Yes.  Our bathroom is now safer, and also unique, functional and friendly, in keeping with our homes easy-going atmosphere.

> We could not have been more pleased with the renovation that Funk & Little did for us. They took our 1950's lakefront ranch and turned it into a beautifully realized contemporary. Their attention to detail, fine workmanship, and desire to please us made this a wonderful experience. It is truly amazing that this house was gutted and refitted with meticulous detail and true artistry in 6 month's time.  When we tell people we loved working with our contractor, we get lots of surprised reactions, since that is not most peoples' experience. There were no hidden costs and at no time did we feel taken advantage of. They were also very good about coming up with options, new ideas, and suggestions. Chuck Funk in particular is a great communicator and all-around great guy. Our renovated home is amazingly gorgeous and we find it hard to leave it! 5 stars, thumbs up, highly recommended!

Chuck Funk of Funk & Little asked us many intelligent questions to get a full understanding of our needs and wants; in turn, his questions and recommendations helped to re-shape our basement theater project into something even better than we originally envisioned. Since that project, Funk & Little has always been our first phone call whenever we embark on a new home improvement.
