**Q: Cabinet door designs** *(in Design Dilemma)*

Currently, what are the 2 most popular cabinet door styles.

A: In our neck of the woods, i would have to say 3" Stile and Rails Shaker with recessed solid wood panel for the best seller and the modern high gloss Slab style doors as the number 2.

**Q: Vertical arborite/wilsonart advice!** *(in Design Dilemma)*

Has anyone used arboreta or wilsonart vertically? Was thinking of trying something a little different as a backsplash in the basement suite in both the kitchen and bathroom.

A: Any laminate can be used vertically, it's all about the  substrate and glue selection!
They used that inexpensive backsplash system back in the 70's and 80's in rental suites.

**Q: Painting original trim?** *(in Design Dilemma)*

We recently bought a house that was built in 1918. There is a ton of the original wood trim/doors/windows throughout the down stairs. I've been going back and forth between painting them all or just refinishing. My problem is, if I refinish it, I don't know that it will match my mostly all espresso colored furniture and I don't know what color to paint the walls. Also wondering if we could paint the original center archway between living room and dining room, and if we should paint the dining room built in hutch as well. We are first time homebuyers, and aren't sure which route to take! The only photos I have right now are from the listing, so sorry for the awful quality. Any and all advice, input etc. is greatly appreciated!

A: Leaving the original millwork is a smart "resale value move".
There is products that can help you revive the damage trims in 2 steps, like Howard's "restore a finish" and "feed and wax", without having to go through sanding and stripping.
Other advantage of keeping the wood trims is vacuuming scuffs won't show on baseboards.
Cons of painting existing wood trims;
\- it will not breathe well anymore and will be prone to checking and cracking.
\- it will decrease resale value
-If you want to paint it, do not, remove all the wood trims and resale it as a reclaimed bundle for a premium, someone will buy and repurpose it with respect! Then reinvest that money in putting inexpensive mdf trims!

A: And TV's are overrated!!!
It belongs in a home theatre as a projection screen! Or in the bar.

**Q: Can you please tell me where I can purchase a library later like this?** *(in Photo Questions)*

A: The hardware is available on richelieu.com website as well as a choice of ladders, although the in the picture seems a tad taller than the standards.  You might have to get the ladder custom built by a reputable craftsman!
Hardwood ladders can be built in any shape, size and heights to fit your exact needs.
Try Richelieu first, the height might be perfect for your needs!
