> We contracted Davis Kitchen and Tile to remodel two bathrooms in February of 2026. At the beginning they were very responsive, conducting professional meetings, presentations and agreements to perform the work we were seeking. We provided them with our desired timeline of completion by father's day weekend in June (4 months) to which they agreed was more than reasonsable. We put down a deposit for the work and that's when problems began. Despite several requests via email and voice mails requesting a projected start date, we were ingnored and our messages went without response. It wasn't until I requested to terminate the contract and get a refund that a representative from DKT contacted me, apologized for the problems, identifying unexpected personnel turnover as the reason for our problems but that work will be beginning on June 14 and will most likely be completed within three weeks. DKT did show up on the morning of June 14 and began demolition of one of the bathrooms, removing the shower, toilet and sink/vanity, a solid day's work. However, that's where work has stopped for the last 3 weeks. Now we have a semi-demolished bathroom, with material sitting on our walkway and are again experiencing unanswered messages regarding our projects. The chronic inconsistency, poor communication and lack of progress, as well as what seems to be habitual over-promising and under-delivering has made this entire process and experience one you should avoid.

**Q: How much space is there from the island to the refrigerator?** *(in Photo Questions)*

Beautiful work, but it doesn’t look like you can open the freezer far, especially if you are not on one side.

A: Thanks for your question.  The space between the island and the freezer is quit adequate.  From this angle, the camera is creating an optical illusion that the space is minimal.

**Q: What is the countertop material, please?** *(in Photo Questions)*

A: Sorry I do not have the information on the lights as we did not provide them for the client.

**Q: What is the paint color on the cabinets?** *(in Photo Questions)*

A: It's a finish option from Mouser on their maple cabinets called Driftwood.  It's not a painted cabinet but a stain and finish process to achieve this color.

**Q: What is the name of the flooring?** *(in Photo Questions)*

A: This company is Happy Floors and the name of the tile is Hickory, in the color Fog.

**Q: Creative ideas for bonus space** *(in Design Dilemma)*

We have a bonus room connected to our master closet. It's such a unique space but we can't figure out what to use it for. Right now it is just storage (clearly!). Would love some creative ideas!!

A: The best idea for these types of spaces are multi-functional.  Some of the questions we might ask to figure out just what type of things you like to do and your family make-up.  do you have small children.  Or maybe older children that like to do art or need a good homework space.  Maybe a space for the kids to hang out.  Or if this isn't the case.  Perhaps turning it into a partial library, and storage.  Here's an idea.

**Q: Backsplash Ideas Needed (20-something design novice, pics in comments)** *(in Design Dilemma)*

Hello design experts!
I recently finished painting my Washington DC condo in a calm, neutral gray (Morning Fog by Sherwin Williams). The kitchen has never had a backsplash and I am looking for designs but am overwhelmed! The kitchen is galley style with cherry cabinets and black granite counters- relatively dark so I'm hoping something lighter to lighten it up! Will also install under cabinet lights beforehand FYI. My original thought was white/gray mosaic tile or marble tile with dark grout, but welcome any thoughts or expertise!!

A: What a great question.  First, I might suggest installing the cabinet lights after the back splash so the aren't in the way when installing the tile. Secondly you might want to go with something alittle more flashy than the grey.  And add in some of the dark elements to bring it all together.  The under cabinet lights, as shown in this photo, will make your space a little brighter with its reflection.
