He gave ways HE would improve upon my plan, how costs could be lowered, and many other suggestions! then prior to starting the project i met with Michael, the job supervisor and craftsmen--notice I said "craftsmen" rather than "workers" or "carpenters". Jeremy Inscho is a perfectionistic "craftsman" and his son Angel is learning to walk in his footsteps! > Jeremy & angl were onfronted with quite a challenge caused my the sinking PLUS working around the very poor previous construction joining my 2 decks--but he and Angel accomplished the task--they are masters!! > They installed a gorgeous screened in porch replacing the 30-year-old first built deck. Jeremy suggested staining the new ceiling to match the new privacy fencing-it is gorgeous and tied the project together! A couple of years ago I requested Screeneze to develop a double sliding screen door since I am planning to live here during "old age" (I'm already there-ha!). so, Screeneze listened - mine was the first to be installed. Of course, Jeremy improved on their instructions and made it slide perfectly. > I only wish I had found Heartland Home Improvements long time ago--could have saved alot of money and had great craftmanship!! This was done in 2022. And 3: install an ADA compliant wheel chair ramp up to an existing deck, which was done in one week in November 2023. > > I have found that Heartland does excellent work, the guys show on time and get right to work, there is little or no wasted effort and all workers were very pleasant indeed to work with. Everybody knew what they were about and things cooked right along nicely. We did have to call them back on the deck project due to some ground heave that caused the step railing to disconnect. They responded quickly and got it taken care of and it still is okay one year later. The shower door kit also leaked in a couple places, but this was a complicated door kit and since I have installed it on a prior project, I realized what was amiss and just recaulked it myself. I am quite sure that they would have come back to do that too, but I didn't think it worth the drive out to Burns, KS which is where we live. > > I have found these people to be very honest and a real pleasure to work with. We did take an additional bid on the shower replacement (which was our first project with Heartland) and these other folks quoted a cost over 2.5 times as high. My wife had a sudden need for the wheel chair ramp and Heartland was able to work with their next client who agreed to set their project back by a week and they were out here within about two weeks after the initial contact. Note that the ramp wasn't quite the simple installation as the existing steps had to be trimmed away and some existing deck railing removed. The cost was more than we expected at first, but they worked with us to see where we could "compromise" and ended up with a budget we both agreed upon. At the end of the project, the cost was exactly what they said it would be. I have worked with many contractors where you get the bill a month after the project is finished, and it's 150/200% higher than the number you thought. > > Other than financials, the craftsmanship was excellent. I'm very happy with the work and the quality. > > Last, they have an in-house drafter/designer (Nathan) that will show you what your project will look like (to-scale) at no cost to you. Nathan was the starting point and we loved working with him. I had interviewed architects/designers before calling Heartland and they wanted $3,000-$5,000 just for a drawing. The ceiling appears to be a standard white and the walls appear to be a neural tan. Lighting makes a big difference in how a wall or ceiling color looks. The best thing to do is to get a tester color and apply a little to the wall in the area you are thinking of painting. Let it dry completely and see how you like it.
