I workerd with \*\*\*\*\*\*\*\* and she did a very perffessonal job. I picked the vanity up from the warehouse and they were helpful and freindly. All was going great until I went to install them ! They went to gether and looked great until I found a \*\*\*\* in one of the doors. I called support back and said I had found this \*\*\*\* in paint and was not sure how it happened (could be my fault or came that way) and what could I do. \*\*\*\*\*\*\*\* said that her management would like pictures of the damage so they could determine what to do (I sent 2 Pics). I soon recieved an email stating they would be giving me a new door but needed exact info on the door which I sent, and a link to pay shipping cost of $25.00 (which I paid). Another day and they said thier shipping department looked the pictures and determined it was my fault and I could pay $1500.00 (half the price of orginal price) for a new door under the warranty or since the door was only $250.00 I could just pay that (very aggrevating think you have a solution and it changes). I again said I never said it was thier fault and could I just use touch up paint (yes was the anwser). The Samanthe said that I could use the shipping cost for the door for the paint ( guess I misunderstood because I just just called back asking where the paint was). I talked to \*\*\*\*\*\*\*\* again and found out that they still needed me to pay $30.00 dollars for the touch up pen. That was enough for me I asked that the shipping payment be refunded and I won't be dealing withthem again ! Even if you buy all ready-to-assemble cabinets, buy the cabinet with the trash drawer pre-assembled. There were zero instructions, the tech support person couldn't help as the hardware had changed and it required fabrication of a couple of pieces to mount the rails. The door also had no markings as to how to mount it to the drawer, yadda yadda yadda. I have a couple of ideas... one more traditional and one that adds a little more of a statement. I mocked up a couple of rough examples of what my husband and I are considering. Would love to get some feedback and tile ideas as we start this process. Our kitchen and my drawings: A: I think you should go with the first option. I love the way blue tiles go with white cabinets. Also, your backsplash will match your kettle. I like the tile options better, but just to throw this out there, You could also get a FULL granite backsplash to match your countertop. **Q: Pot Fillers! Countertop vs wall mounted? Placement over burners?** *(in Plumbing)* Lots of pot filler questions! (please, no comments about how they are an unnecessary expense or that we will have to dump the water out anyway. . .I use my current pot filler regularly, and also use it for things other than making pasta - such as quinoa or rice - where the water isn't dumped out after cooking) 1\) Does anyone have a countertop-mounted pot filler (deck-mounted) instead of a wall-mounted one? Do you find that it is high enough to fill your pots? 2\) Is there any reason why you can't just put a spray nozzle on the countertop next to the stove and just pull it out to fill a pot (similar to a spray nozzle that would sit on the back edge of a sink)? Or are there retractable hose pot fillers that are less conspicuous than ones with the big metal arms? 3\) Are you supposed to put the pot filler over a specific burner - the highest BTU burner, the lowest BTU burner, or it doesn't matter? My current pot filler only reaches the back 2 burners on an 8 burner stove, but I just slide the pot over after I fill it, so I don't find that placement to be an issue. Here is picture showing the layout of the BTUs on my burners. Thanks! A: Carolina Kitchen & Bath, I totally get what you are saying about the cost of the pot filler not being worth the benefit. But think about it this way, there are millions of people who are currently buying little black towers and little black hockey pucks from Amazon just so they can talk to their computer in voice commands that barely make their lives easier than they would be by simply taking 5-8 seconds longer to type the same commands in manually. Many people look at the price for these devices and say: "Why would I pay that much just for that little convenience?" But in the end it's all a matter of priorities. We are a culture that loves convenience. To some people, it's just worth it. I wish that I could have a pot filler. **Q: Small Kitchen Advice** *(in Design Dilemma)* Found a drain leak in kitchen, so we are tearing it out and replacing everything. Using opportunity to make some big changes. It is 14'x10'. My design with IKEA planner before scheduling meeting with IKEA designer. Any advice is appreciated. Current / Original design: Changes planned: \- remove peninsula, replace with kitchen island, approx. 40"x66" \- 36" farmhouse sink - currently a 30" under mount on a 36" base cabinet \- 36" range with hood - currently 30" with microhood \- pantry 30" instead of 36". Room is 95" H, 80", will put in 90" H pantry with more usable drawers, currently fixed 3 top/3 bottom shelves. \- counter between range and fridge from 18" to 15" \- microwave in island, cabinet nearest range/sink \- built in trash in cabinet at end near dishwasher. \- we currently have a 7" lowered ceiling/covered space above cabinets to make it flush. But since we are changing layout, assuming I can remove and put in 40" H cabinets instead of current 36" H, also IKEA is 15" D instead of current 12" D. Hoping we aren't too ambitious with sink and range widths. Thanks in advance A: @PTown Irvine, There are a lot of ways to get those inches that you need. Some are better than others. It really just depends on what your priorities are. First of all, Yes you can certainly put a pull-out trash cabinet on your island. I do not think it will feel like it is “too far away.” Personally, I wouldn’t go with this plan because it involves you having to turn around every time you use it whether you are facing the range or the sink. Also, If you have the cabinet face the sink and pull out towards the sink it will really complicate your island design. While if you have it face the range then you might occasionally get annoyed by the pull-out trash and oven door taking up the walkway. Many people are not really bothered by these ^ issues, but I feel like there are better options. When our installers are putting in cabinets they say that the minimum filler that they use is 1 inch. There are a number of factors that will determine how much filler you need. (knobs, handles, door and hinge design, etc.) The last thing I want is to complicate this further, but you will probably need an extra inch next to the fridge for a refrigerator panel. To be safe, let us assume that you need 3 more inches to make this work. If it were my kitchen, my priority would be to have a 36-inch range, 36-inch fridge, the 30-inch pantry, and the 18-inch double trash cabinet. (I fill up those little 15 inch ones way too fast.) So I would just take 3 more inches from the cabinet between the range and the fridge. I have lived in a house with a terrible kitchen where the fridge and range were literally touching, side by side. I hated it. But as long as you have a little bit of counter space to work with, it makes all the difference in the world. One of the most popular options that people ask us for when designing a new kitchen is the pull-out spice racks right next to your range. A 9-inch spice rack base cabinet would fit there with 9 inches of countertop to use for spoons or what have you. And if you don’t like the pull-out spice rack you can always use a narrow 9-inch cabinet. I see a lot of people using these types of cabinets next to their range to store cooking sheets and cutting boards. (excellent for organizing flat stuff) Going with this plan will only sacrifice 3 to 6 inches of storage space from one wall cabinet and one base cabinet and you will gain a great corner cabinet. It looks like your design is going to have a lot of great storage already with your 30-inch pantry and island cabinets; so I doubt you will miss the sacrificed storage space. If you are not too keen on that plan, there are other ways to get the necessary 3 inches. **Q: Too paint the trim in the living room, or not?** *(in Design Dilemma)* Our living room has dark wood trim and doors. I just painted the woodwork in our kitchen "dove white" by Ben Moore. Should I also paint the living room trim and doors the same white. We are putting in hardwood flooring and didn't want it to get any darker in there with beige walls and dark beige ceiling. A: Hmmm Definitely paint the trim then, I think it'll look great! **Q: Replacing vertical blinds** *(in Design Dilemma)* Just go with a grommet drapery? Keep them open 90% of the time. A: I'm not too sure what you could do about the weather but I think grommet drapes would look great! **Q: Building new house on slab, opinions on polished concrete!** *(in Polls)* I am building a new house on a slab. We are running water tubing in concrete for heated floors. my thought was to finish it with a polished concrete. seems to be pretty easy to do, and, while reading how many people end up covering it years later, I don't see the harm in trying it for a new build. Opinions greatly appreciated! Thanks A: Polished concrete is one of my favorite options for kitchen floors. It is one of the cheapest options as all you'd have to pay for is the sealer / epoxy.
