> Mica McOmber and his employees did a down -to-the studs remodel on our 1930’s home, including a new kitchen, bed, bath, dining and living rooms. Walls were torn down and beams and arches put up, all in the original style of the house. One of the best compliments we get, frequently, is that except for the top of the line materials, finishes and appliances,  if you hadn’t seen it before, you wouldn’t know it had been remodeled- it all looks original. His employees work hard and are the perfect combination of "get-er-done" and meticulous attention to detail. Mica was on top of coordinating his sub contractors;  they were respectful and did what they said they would, in a timely and competent manner. After the job was complete, the couple of tiny things we found that needed fixing or adjustment, we called Mica and the sub contractor was at our house within an hour or two, problem fixed! As far as financial matters go, Mica took extra time to explain costs to us. I always felt he was honest, open to our concerns and strove to find fair solutions if anything popped up. We feel very lucky to have had Mica and his team working on our home and hope to have him in the future, on other projects. We now live in a house that works wonderfully, and is more beautiful than even our dreams.

> This was approx. 200 sq ft. bedroom/bath addition to existing home.  Mica was always calm, courteous and respectful to all, clients and co-workers. We were impressed with the likability of his chosen subs and the timeliness of the work.  He was normally available by cell phone and physically responsive when we needed him onsite promptly for evaluations or decisions. **Q: Beautiful cabinets. What is the source of the pulls? thanks** *(in Photo Questions)*

Source for Pulls?

A: Thanks.  These are custom made black walnut pulls with a clear finish that were made locally by my cabinet guy.  The drawers and pulls were integrated, so that the drawer is notched and the pull fits into the notch.  Drawers are rift cut white oak with a clear finish.

**Q: Sikkens finish on vertical cedar?** *(in Photo Questions)*

Is the Sikkens finish a clear oil-based finish, one of their translucent finishes that impart color or a semi-transparent stain? Thank you!

A: The Sikkens color and product we used on this project was the "Sikkens Cetol 1+2, 3" with the "Natural Oak" color.  You might consider the "Sikkens Log and Siding" in the same Natural Oak color which we have started using more recently.  Both are great products.
This project we did use clear cedar on the vertical siding.

**Q: Front door stain?** *(in Photo Questions)*

Love this look! what is the type of wood and the stain used?

A: Sorry for the slow response.  These must have went to my junk mail folder.
The front door was an interesting story.  The owners ordered a Douglas Fir door from Simpson, and the did not like the glass panel sizes.  We ended up having a local door guy make this door out of Larch, which is very similar to Douglas fir.  
The stain on the vertical Cedar siding (and I believe the entry door as well) was Sikkens Cetol 1+2x3 in Natural Oak Color.

**Q: Fireplace wall** *(in Photo Questions)*

Hello I love this look but could you tell me how you did the fireplace wall? Is that cement board all the way up? Did you use a special paint that does not discolour with the heat? Thanks!

A: Thank you.  The fireplace wall is plaster.  The cement board is only required for about a foot above the fireplace.  The rest of the wall is the (blue board) regular plaster board.  A finished L-metal trims out the fireplace.  I do not recall if the painter used a high temp paint on this project, but we did not have any issues with paint.  Be sure to follow the fireplace manufacturer clearances, as every fireplace has different requirements.

**Q: Can you share about these cabinets? Wood species? Very nice!** *(in Photo Questions)*

A: Thank you!  The Drawer and Door fronts on the cabinets are made from a locally salvaged "Elm" tree that was milled after severe storm damage.  The raised bar is also from the same tree with "Mirror Coat" bar top finish.  The cabinet boxes are solid plywood with a dark slate grey laminate finish on the perimeter, and white laminate on the the island.
