So I won't even show the pictures of the sink area b/c (even though the fabricator installed it with a terrible mismatched seam without saying anything after break it) it is being taken out and redone. Where I am struggling is with the rest of the fabrication and especially the 12 foot island. So we knew that a seam would be necessary and purchased 3 slabs, two of which are bookened, to make that happen. I asked numerous times to approve the templates prior to beginning but that was never done. My concerns are; The layout of the island is awkward, especially the mismatched center oval thing. I would not have signed off on this. Also the seams themselves are highly visible and poorly matched. Second, the mitered edges all around the island are chipped with tons of poorly matched epoxy and even what looks like some chips to try to fill it in. There are also so many places where the stone looks like it didn't quite break off but was damaged in the fabrication process. Our GC is saying that isn't the best ever job but is largely blaming the stone and offering to have a different fabricator try to make the edges look better. Side note, our GC is reputable and well regarded in our area meaning that we didn't hire a handyman level contractor and expected a high level of regard to detail and our costs are inline with that expectation, or so I thought. I keep hoping that this will fade away as what I notice when I walk into the kitchen but that has yet to happen and it is what I notice and gives me that sinking stomach feel. What do you all think? Thank you A: I would call them about that large crack and chipping or gouges on the corners. May have happened during installation, unless it’s 2 pieces and they didn’t line it up properly, but there is usually just one slab, so it looks like a crack to me **Q: Can I rip up a carpet now and wait to refinish the wood underneath?** *(in Home Repair)* I just bought my first house last year, it used to be a rental property so the previous owner did not put a lot of care in to maintain the house. The entire house is carpeted, I know there is wood under the carpet on the first floor which is where I'm looking to start. The house was built in the early 1900s and I believe the wood underneath is pine. I will be ripping up the carpet myself to save some money. I'm expecting there to be some damage but my worry is that it will be worse than I thought and therefore more expensive to replace boards and refinish. If I pull up the carpet now and it is worse than I thought, is it okay to wait a couple months to have boards replaced and refinish professionally? I just want to make sure I won't be causing any further problems. (Ideally I would do everything at once but I may have to wait for financial reasons if there's too much damage; just want to know what I'm getting into before I start). Thanks in advance! A: Yes, just be sure to have pliers and flat head screwdriver to get all the staples up sand and tac strips up and a bunch of contractor bags. **Q: Removing ceiling in downstairs to expose upstairs floor joists** *(in Design Dilemma)* We're remodeling a modern home built in the 70's. We would really like to remove the sheet rock ceilings in the living room to expose the floor joists above (which is a bedroom).
