GriD Architects is an architectural design firm focused on custom residential projects. Our award-winning team believes in creation through collaboration, making buildings and spaces specific to the people and place for which they are intended.

Through our extensive network of professionals, ranging from architects to engineers, artists to builders, we deliver projects that inspire and embrace sustainable practices through our hands-on approach.

Our costs to design and complete construction documents are typically calculated as a percentage of the overall construction costs. They can range from 12-16% depending on the size and complexity of the project. > Professional and practical approach to architectural design makes GriD architects a pleasure to work with. I have worked with both Alick and Brian on traditional and modern designs. Their attention to detail, awareness of space and functionality made it a delight to work with them on their window and door arrangements.

**Comment from GriD architects:**

> Thanks David, we enjoy working with you as well. Look forward to more opportunities to collaborate.

**★★★★★ — stjaden, Aug. 2016**

> Both Alick and Brian are very passionate Architects that helped us to think outside the box during our initial design meeting for our Veterans Memorial Garden project in 2015. The quality of design and creativity coupled with their attention to detail is one of the many reasons we chose to have them bid on this project. (The project is on hold for now) Working with Brian on previous projects has allowed me to see his true dedication and spirit to the project in front of him, while also being open and truthful during the design process. Really great guys to work with, and I would highly recommend!

**Comment from GriD architects:**

> Thanks so much for taking the time to provide a review for us. Can't wait to get started on your project!

**★★★★★ — IDS Metals / Ar2 Design Studios Inc., Aug. 2016**

> Great designs, and great work ethics. Very easy to work with, and great communication. The project we worked on is a very modern space and we were contracted to do one of our frame-less tempered glass railings. The stairs design was great, and the glass railing complimented the design without covering the design details. They get it.

> Looking to work with them again.

**Comment from GriD architects:**

> We look forward to collaborating on more projects. Thanks for your kind words!

**★★★★★ — EJ Rumpke, Jan. 2016**

> Brian and Alick were great to work with. They put together an amazing plan to renovate an older row house in Baltimore. Hands on team. Highly recommend.

**★★★★★ — Taz, Jan. 2016**

> Brian Grieb of Grid Architects, not only expresses his knowledge of Architecture but also the details necessary to implement the design. His professionalism and experience is a breath of fresh air in this industry as he focuses on the project's needs with listening and welcoming input from the client. If you're considering hiring an architect, it is my opinion that GriD Architects is an excellent firm to work with for your upcoming project!

**★★★★★ — Doug D, Dec. 2015**

> After many years of enjoying our rudimentary cabin, it was time for a major change. Discussions with Brian and Alick led to a decision to conduct a significant renovation rather than a replacement. Retaining the original cabin footprint, but dramatically opening up the spaces with new roof lines, amazing window shapes, clerestories and a loft, a design emerged in drawings, models and plans that we really liked. We engaged a local builder who embraced the ideas of utilizing as much of the old timbers, siding and flooring as possible as well as GriD’s use of new materials and structures, and the build process unfolded smoothly. The collaborative process with the owners, the builder and the architects all participating led to opportunities to make enhancements and resolve issues along the way, with Brian and/or Alick regularly appearing on site to meet with the builder and us – as just one example, the master bedroom roof design was modified to use exposed beams of local wood which became available during the build.
>
> We could not be more pleased with the outcome. And every visitor expresses delight and praise. One marvelous result which reveals the value of using this skilled architectural team and which we did not even understand would occur, was the result of their careful selection of window sizes and positioning. Each section of windows in the house now reveals the varied and unique views of the terrain outside our house, bringing these views directly into the interior space. Each of these views are framed like works of art by the different sized and shaped windows in the rooms. From the kitchen table we see the pond below the house and the farm fields across our local lane. From the couch and easy chairs we see the field of Christmas trees up the mountain above the house. And from the kitchen sink, a dramatic hill side of rock and pines fills the view. The architects had studied these site lines and designed the glazing to produce these views.

> We asked Alick to work on a master suite and utility room as an addition to our home. Because we knew of his professionalism from another big job, and liked the industrial/minimalist aspect of it, we wanted Alick to take a look at our ideas. We were presented with several models and drawings after our first couple of discussions We were excited to get a dimensional scale replica to actually see what it was going to look like. Instead of a typical straight off the back footprint, Alick introduced the idea of designing a "knuckle" connecting the original home and the addition, creating a beautiful gallery and a private, Spanish style courtyard we have enjoyed immensely! Although this was all preparatory work prior to actual blueprints, there was no doubt Alick was working for us then. As busy as he was, Alick made sure to come prepared to meetings, was always available to discuss the project changes, ideas, and was frequently on site during construction meeting with the contractor. From start to finish, Alick made sure the work was being done as designed. We have loved the results of our new home ever since.

**★★★★ — depaulweller, Nov. 2014**

> After a house fire that destroyed a cabin previously on the site we commissioned GriD architects to design a new house for us. The design process was very exciting, and GriD incorporated our wishes to create a modern structure that best incorporated the view from the ridge to the Potomac River. Initial discussions followed by a site visit then led to drawings, models, and eventually the architectural plans. Working with our builder, who enjoyed the process while working with Brian on site, completed the GriD plans as we had envisioned. The selection of materials, fixtures, etc., also followed the same efficient process as the plan. Visitors to the house cannot praise its design and beauty enough.

**Comment from GriD architects:**

> Thanks Dennis and Jan! We thoroughly enjoyed working with you on this amazing project.

  - Description: Nestled between Frederick Law Olmstead's Patterson Park and Baltimore’s historic waterfront, Taphouse emerges as a typical, unassuming, sixteen foot wide corner rowhouse common to the urban fabric. Not unlike many corner rowhouses in Baltimore, this unassuming building has anchored the intersection for over a century, serving generations as a small neighborhood market. Yet, despite the typological similarities, Taphouse shares with the countless other mixed-use corners of Baltimore the project i…

  - Description: Along the banks of the Potomac River near historic Harpers Ferry, West Virginia, a small cottage sat which had been expanded idiosyncratically by a previous owner over the course of twenty years. The resulting form and layout was convoluted and failed to capitalize on the dramatic views of the river. The renovation strategy strips away seemingly ad hoc elements which disrupted the overall continuity, paralyzing the plan, while adding back elements which complete recognizable geometries and clari…

  - Description: On a remote mountain farm in West Virginia, a series of rudimentary saunas had been constructed since the late 1970s. Each iteration advanced the relative permanence of the structure. Unfortunately, the last iteration burned down a quarter-century after the first. For another 15 years, the site - at the edge of a spring-fed pond - lay dormant, setting the stage for another generation to reimagine the sauna. This time around, the project emerged as a research-driven design/build. Blending student…
