> Danny Steiger is a delight to work with.  He has an excellent eye for function, uses the latest 'techie' tools for design, and knows the building trade well.  He listened to our needs and wants and clearly communicated options, solutions and rationale for our kitchen remodel.  That said, I must confess that a 5 week project has taken over 5 months!  Lots of reasons for that, but Danny has been supportive through it all.  And the result is a very efficient kitchen that fits the spirit of the house and us.

**Q: Kitchen cabinet resurfacing** *(in Design Dilemma)*

Hello,
We are looking into resurfacing our kitchen cabinets going from oak to a med/dark maple stain.  We currently have 15yr old solid oak cabinets with raised cathedral door panels on the wall cabinets and raised square panels on bottom.  We'd like to change to a more a transitional design by replacing the wall cabinet doors with matching the bottom raised square panels and then adding updated hardware.  Could you please advise us if we should search for reclaimed/used doors to match our cabinet's aged tones or if buying new ones would  suffice?  Keeping in mind that cabinets would all then be stained to maple.

A: Hi Leigh, 
The odds of finding reclaimed/used doors that fit all the proper size constraints is EXTREMELY small. Even finding new doors that match the exact style of your base cabinets will be a challenge. Your best bet is likely to find a custom cabinetry manufacturer (local custom shop) and show them a door from your current base cabinets. They should be able to tell you if they can build/find a similar enough door style. The next challenge is going to be refinishing the bottom cabinets and getting the new finish on the new wall cabinet doors to match. The custom shop should be able to tell you if they feel they can get those things close enough. 
It seems counter-intuitive, but you may want to consider replacing all of the cabinets (or at least all of the doors/drawers) so that they all match.
