Also im putting one over sink too. A: Just to hopefully help you visualize, I ran your space through an ai and added some pendants over the island. I hope this helps. You might want to ignore the wood ceiling. Ai thought that would look nice. LOL. Obviously ignore the chairs/stools. It was confused by the child stool. **Q: Should I pay to have the fireplace raised?** *(in Design Dilemma)* Hello, I have a dilemma! My contractor framed this area to put the fireplace. After the fireplace was installed, I realized he should have put it on at least a 6" platform. I measured from the top of the glass to the lowest part where the Mantle will be, and it measures at least 19". It will be a big hassle to take out and shut gas lines off and reframe it on a raised platform and put it back in. I realize it's hard to tell by my photo but if you can just visualize the fireplace mantle 19" above the top of the glass. The black will not be showing it will be covered with stone. This is a semi linear fireplace so its lower than most. 24" from floor to top of glass. The mantle will start at the lower horizonal piece of wood. and the ceilings are 8'. Would you pay to raise it or leave it? It is the Bellingham Kozy heat fireplace 44" wide glass only. and 24" High to the top of the glass. We are going to dry wall the beam. Thanks in advance!! Everything I read says aesthetically the mantle should be between 12 to 14 " above the top of the glass. My contractor says he does not install fireplaces so I have to find someone else. Is it worth all the trouble and expense? A: I think if it bothers you now it will bother you more later. I did some photoshop to see what you think and the ran that through an ai to clean it up a bit. Ignore the items that ai changed in the room to the right. I hope this gives you some kind of visual to see if it will be worth the move. **Q: Can I have different brands for a glass end panel to the shower?** *(in Design Dilemma)* I've brought an Aqualux sliding door but the end panel (sold separately) is the wrong size and the correct size is no longer available. Can I use a different brand if the sizes are correct? A: its probably all one system, but sorry not sure.... **Q: Kitchen Island Chandelier Lighting** *(in Lighting)* I have a barrel ceiling in my kitchen. There is 118” between my countertop and the ceiling. What is the maximum amount of space I can have between my countertop and the bottom of the chandelier? A: That vault looks very nice. I would recommend to mount the fixture roughly 7' above finish floor. so the bottom of fixture would be at 84" from floor, 48" above counter. This would allow it to project down from the vault enough to be exposed but not too low in the space. **Q: Help with upper cabinet design/soffit** *(in Design Dilemma)* Hello, We are working to finalize our cabinety design. We originally did not include a mid-height cabinet on either side of the hood because my hushand wanted more wall space there and to not feel enclosed while chopping veggies. We have a 9” soffit that after a ton of thought cannot be minimized much or removed. I am not liking the high cabinets on either side of the range, I find them distracting. I cannot find examples of the exposed soffit next to the hood online. Should we remove the high cabinets and live with that part of the soffit connecting to the next mid height cabinets being exposed, and maybe add some open shelving there, or should we add mid height caninets to that area? My husband is at peace with that, however I like how the backsplash around the hood as it is now is highlighting the hood and corbels. I am also wondering if we make the counter height cabinets double cabinets so they are more substantial (they are glass), make the mid height cabs glass, and the ones next to the hood solid. i really like the attached pic showing the solid cabs next to the hood being one cabinet and not 2 door, however we want to keep the uppers balanced with the lowers. A: Hello. I believe it might be worth exploring making the lower base cabinets have a deeper countertop. I have created some kitchens that were short on countertop space have a 30" deep counter. You can still use the standard 24" deep base cabinets but have the counter run over the back. you will have a void in the back not visible to anyone. this will allow you to bring down the side cabinets on either side of the range and still give your husband the extra space so he does not feel they are in his face and he has room to work. just an option. **Q: picking a shingle color** *(in Home Repair)* I am replacing my roof and using the Owen’s Corning shingles. I think I have narrowed it down to estate grey and Williamsburg grey. I know the estate grey is lighter and the Williamsburg grey is a darker grey and has earthy browns in it. What are your thoughts. I have done the picture of my house on their website. That is where I marked out peppercorn. I think it’s too many colors not matching the brick.
