## Community Q&A

**Q: Should I put a TV over my fireplace mantel?** *(in Design Dilemma)*

No. Here is an example of why you should not do this.



The TV is too high.
The TV is too far away,
You will watch this TV by turning your head to the extreme left or right and up, my neck hurts!
The trumo (overmantle) looks ridiculous. It is out of proportion and out of character to the mantle below.
The lower mantle is elegant with trim delicate features, the trumo is a box.
The molding panel above the TV is awkward but what else can you do?

Try a watercolor or oil painting
A family portrait is a good choice
A black and white photograph

These 3 suggestions share something in common: They can all be admired for as long or short of a duration as the viewer is inclined. TV's demand we never look away.

A: Fireplaces tend to be such beautiful focal points for design all on their own. I feel like so much is taken away from that when you put a tv above them.
