**★★★★★ — HU-995143555, Aug. 2023**

> Tenhulzen did an amazing job on our kitchen/living room remodel. They were quick, clean, and did beautiful work. They raised our ceilings and took out a couple walls, on top of new lighting, paint, and texturing. Highly recommend!

**★★★★★ — Camille, Oct. 2022**

> Tenhulzen painted the interior and exterior of our house this year, including rot repair and gutter replacement. We are very happy with the results. The knock on painters is that they can be flakey. Not so here! Every employee we had contact with was responsive and professional, and their follow-through was consistent. The company used high quality products and up-to-the-minute tools so we could track our projects online, and both crews were friendly and easy to have in and around our home all day. We definitely recommend them and would not hesitate to hire them again.

> McKibben Project Review - Part Two
>
> DETAILS:
> ●The Boss
> Scott was not on site much. He entrusted the daily supervision to a bright and capable Team Leader—Matt Kahler. But I had a lengthy conversation with him during his initial visit and then frequent phone and email contact. He is an impressive man in many regards.
> Scott is very bright and articulate and easily shares his vast knowledge and experience. But what impressed me most was his character. It doesn’t take much contact with Scott to get a clear sense of his values: honesty, integrity, dependability, doing a job well. After observing and
> chatting with the crew that painted and repaired our house it became clear that he expects the same from his employees.
> The Crew
> There was nearly always a painting crew of five. Matt Kahler was the Team Leader. He organized, assigned daily tasks, did a bit of “quality control” supervision, and worked along with the others. Matt is very personable and capable. He did a nice job of coordinating all aspects of the project.
> The other members of the painting crew were: Charlie, Simeon, Bruce, and MacGyver. They were a delightful bunch, often joking and bantering back-and-forth! I visited with them daily over the course of three weeks and enjoyed it immensely. I missed them when they left!
> The construction work was done by Rich and Rodney--both very experienced and proficient. Their interface with the painting crew was seamless. Several times during the prep or painting a structural issue was discovered. Matt would call the construction side and soon thereafter Rich would appear. He would quickly determine what needed to be done. Materials would be purchased and the next day the repair would be completed in perfect coordination with the other work.
> ●Workmanship
> As indicated above, I was a more-or-less constant presence around the outside of the house so I saw first-hand the work that was done. I was impressed! I had no idea that so much preparation was required prior to painting. The attention to detail was stunning. I suspect that many companies do far less and/or do it far less well. It seems somewhat beyond the scope of this review to delineate the specifics of the preparation. Suffice to indicate that it was extensive and all completed with painstaking thoroughness.
> The actual painting was, of course, equally careful and thorough. Perhaps largely as a result of the meticulous prep the process appeared to go quite smoothly. On those few occasions where a specified area was judged unacceptable it was sanded and repainted without hesitation.
> The final result was gorgeous! Better than we anticipated!
> COST / VALUE:
> Tenhulzeen will never come in as the lowest bid. They provide a premium quality product and that will always be relatively expensive. But, in our opinion the value is excellent! The “benefit” is more than worth the expense!

**★★★★★ — Leslie Hanning, Nov. 2020**

> Always professional and on time. Cleaned at the end of each day. The project manager, Robert, was wonderful and offered design suggestions that were very much appreciated. The painter, the dry wallers, and the tile company went above and beyond expectations

**★★★★★ — Roy, Jan. 2020**

> We had a split level home and needed the lower level remodeled. After interacting with 3 construction groups, Tenhulzen was at the top of our list after meeting with Scott, the owner. The project started well, there were a few set-backs but options of change orders were enumerated for homeowners to decide. Ken, the Operations Manager did a great job in overseeing the project timeline, permits and even our feedback on design. Prompt to reply if there will be questions during the progress of our project.
> The project manager, Rodney, worked with us throughout the scope of work - down to the little details and other unexpected surprises. Rodney takes pride of his work, is a master carpenter, knowledgeable about all aspects of construction, and detail-oriented, as is the owner of the company, Scott, and all the other employees and the trade subs. Our German shepherd is always happy to see Rodney because he thinks it's playtime and would take care of his "needs" when we are out. Scott ensures his employees are happy, safe and this shows in thier work.
> For the most, we were able to keep cost in scope and Tenhulzen was also upfront about additional necessary cost and worked with us to do a remodel we could afford, even as we added on more pieces. They are not cheap but you will get an exceptional quality of work. We will certainly use Tenhulzen for further work, and highly recommend them.
> They are truly amazing.

**Comment from Tenhulzen Construction:**

> Roy and Leilah, Thank you so very much for your kind review. We are grateful for your business and really appreciate you maintaining open communication throughout the process as well. Thank you again and we look forward to working with you both again in the near future.

> We’ve used Tenhulzen for two large paint jobs in our home, and highly recommend them! Our mill work was a 20 year old high gloss finish, which other painters said was only available on new construction and could not be reproduced. This company meticulously prepped all areas, using tenting and spraying to achieve a better-than-new high gloss finish! There were a couple of challenges,, that were met with a positive attitude, and quickly resolved. They have lots of employees who have been with them for many years - which speaks to how well they are treated.

**Comment from Tenhulzen Construction:**

> Kathy,
> You are a Gem and we will be sure to continue to do our best for you and to improve upon all that we are able to provide.
> Thank you again for your continued business.

> From start to finish Tenhulzen's "crew", ( i.e. Roland's assessment of project, those who accomplished the painting/work , to office staff providing accounting support), each step was completed with professionalism and skill and equally important a sensitivity to a clien'ts wishes, questions and needs.

**Comment from Tenhulzen Construction:**

> Karen,
> Thank you so much for your review. We were honored to be able to work on your project. Please know that we are always here for any questions or assistance on your home. Your contagious positivity and kindness left each and everyone of us with a smile on our face and love in our hearts. Adolfo and the crew miss you very much. We are all wishing you happy holidays and an excellent new year!

> Tenhulzen Painting was great to work with and they did an amazing job in painting the outside of my house. They made sure to use the best quality paint and they were meticulous on filling in gaps and making sure the wood was healthy enough for paint. You can tell they strive for excellence in the work they do. They performed everything I asked for (including taking down cables and filling in holes). I will definitely recommend this company to my friends and family.

**Comment from Tenhulzen Construction:**

> Thank you for your review Natalie! We loved working with you on your project. Please know our doors are always open for questions or assistance, we are always here for you to help your design goals come true. Welcome to the Tenhulzen family, and happy holidays!

**★★★★★ — Katie Bracilano, Dec. 2017**

> They did and excellent job and their work helped me to sell my home quickly. I highly recommend Tenhulzen Painting.

**Comment from Tenhulzen Construction:**

> Thank you very much for your review Katie & thank you again for your business.
> Congratulations on the selling of your home!

**★★★★★ — DB F, Nov. 2017**

> The third painting company is the charm. The first one I hired abandoned me for a more lucrative project and never returned my calls and text messages attempting to schedule the completion of the interior painting of my home. The second company was a mom, pop, son and whoever they could conscript bunch who painted semi-gloss paint on ceilings in two bedrooms, ruined the carpet in another, and rammed their van into my garage and gutter. Finally, and luckily, I found Scott Tenhulzen of Tenhulzen Painting. His crew completed the job in three days, protected my floors and furnishings, cleaned up behind themselves, fixed the errors of the other company, and made every effort to assure my satisfaction with their work. Before you go down the rabbit hole (and money pit!) as I did, call Tenhulzen!

**Comment from Tenhulzen Construction:**

> Glad that you found us as well Debbie. Thank you for your review and for trusting us with your home, providing you with our services.
> Thank you again,
> Scott

**★★★★★ — Brooke Hindes, Nov. 2017**

> From their very thorough and fair estimate all the way through project cleanup, Tenhulzen painting did a great job. Their crew took so much time to make sure our house was prepped appropriately and that everything was painted exactly how we wanted it. They even indulged me through paint sample after paint sample after sample until I got the color just right. I'd highly recommend them for any painting project and would definitely use them again.

**Comment from Tenhulzen Construction:**

> Thank you again for your business Brooke & of course for the kind review.
> We look forward to working with you again.
> Scott
>
> P.S. I’m think we should prime & paint the brick a lighter gray tone next season.

**★★★★★ — Charly Tracy, Oct. 2017**

> What a joy to work with a truly professional organization. We recently had Tenhulzen Painting do a fully exterior repaint of our house and it turned out amazing. Communication with Scott & team was always prompt, they showed up exactly when they said they would, kept the work area clean and did great work. My wife and I continue to be especially amazed at how well our front door came out for what is a 30 year old door. The finish is so smooth and flawless , they had spent quite a bit of time hand sanding it down and the result shows it. The rest of the house looks really great as well.
>
> As a testament to how much we enjoyed working with them, we are having them remodel our kids bathroom.

## Community Q&A

**Q: What is the exterior color of this house?** *(in Photo Questions)*

Is this BM Wild blue yonder exterior color?

A: Stacy,
We did use BM paint but it was a match from SW7607 Santorini Blue
The window trim is a match from SW6230 Rainstorm
The white trim is OC-17 White Dove

**Q: Staining existing concrete** *(in Before & After)*

I have existing concrete around my in ground pool. It’s boring! Can you stain i? Will it last? how does it look?

A: Hello Lisa! Yes you can stain this area. You can choose to use an acid stain, which adds depth and earthy tone to the concrete or a water based stain which comes in a wider variety of hues. When working with an experienced contractor you can mix colors together to achieve the exact shade or color you are looking for. The outcome will depend on the type of surface you are working with (textured, flat, ridged) And all will be sealed with a heavy duty concrete sealant to maintain the finish. Depending on the level of surface preparation and products you use, the stain can last anywhere from 2-8 years with proper maintenance. We recommend hiring a local professional for this project - your project will last longer and look gorgeous! Good luck!

**Q: front door to keep color, what do you think** *(in Home Decorating)*

We have decided to paint our front door Chesapeake blue from that of Chelsea gray because we were getting bored with the gray, now I’m worried our front door is popping too much? The interior of my house is mostly different hues of gray with teal and aqua accents so this isn’t far off. The idea was to make the front door look more modern. What do you guys think? I was hoping to accomplish that by using a brighter more vibrant color. We plan on getting a new front door in the future, this is the only item we have kept of the original house since we renovated ( front door we want is over $5k! ) the cheaper ones are just not as good quality wood as this one. The only problem I have with the door is the style doesn’t fit the rest of our modern farmhouse vibe inside and it isn’t airtight when it’s closed and we can hear whistling if it’s windy out. Any ideas what to do about that?

A: Hey there June!
We love that color! Tying in bright colors is all about adding little nods to your theme throughout your exterior design. Most likely, the biggest pain point here is the style of door and the gold weatherstripping & detailing. When you get your new door we recommend white or black weatherstripping for a cleaner, seamless look. As for the wind whistles - beyond aesthetic purposes your front door should be airtight and watertight. Because it is the original door, the weatherstripping most likely needs to be replaced. If you are planning on replacing the entire door structure this should be a part of your bid, however keep this in mind and make sure! IN THE MEANTIME, try to add some golden and light blue accents around your exterior and interior to tie in the golden detailing. Your current blue, grey, white and brown design will work great with golden accents. However you don't have to go crazy on the gold, a new door, better stripping, and more blue accents outside will solve all of these issues!

**Q: Can I paint these?** *(in Paint)*

I have this metal wall art but the color doesn’t work in my house. There’s some nice detail and some ‘washed out’ areas. Is there a way to paint this to keep that look or would it just become a solid color?

A: There are a couple different options for you, you said you wanted to maintain the detailed areas and rugged portions, we would recommend experimenting with a thinned out patina mixture. You might have to get artistic and deliberate on your applications but it would be a fun task and you might be able to change the hue of the artwork. We aren't sure exactly what you are working with but patinas are also good for opaque metal design as well, if you'd like to completely transform your piece. https://www.industrialmetalsupply.com/products/metal-finishes

Here's an example of a patina finish on metal.

**Q: 1960's Ranch Homes Transforms into a Mountain Home** *(in Before & After)*

Although the owners of this home worked with an architect partner on the exterior concepts, they themselves designed every single space (inside and out) on their own. Their biggest challenge was keeping the existing structure while making it energy efficient, beautiful, and most importantly - livable!
