## Community Q&A

**Q: Painted brick update** *(in Before & After)*

I'd like to add a third color around the windows and I can't decide between a light blue/green or red. What do you think? Thanks!

A: jeez, people. tone down the negative comments. people don't post things asking to be blasted by strangers.

**Q: Before & After: Gun Lake Residence Remodel** *(in Before & After)*

Excited to share the results of this updated Gun Lake Residence.

A: colors are great. getting rid of that low ceiling helped open up the room a lot! very nice

**Q: POLL: Waterbeds - Yay or No Way?** *(in Polls)*

How do you feel about water beds? I don't see many (if any) anymore, but I have a feeling there may be some die-hard fans out there.

VOTE and tell us about it in the comments! (photos encouraged)

A: My ex-husband and I had a waterbed many years ago. For the first few months of my pregnancy, I had to sleep in a normal bed or get sick. For the last few months I had to roll and slosh around until i could get up enough momentum to get out of the bed.

**Q: Need help with decisions !** *(in Design Dilemma)*

Would love to lighten up the kitchen, without painting the cabinets. Wanting/willing to change the countertops, backsplash, wall color, pendants, and cabinet pulls. Island is a Boos Block top with gray stained base. Also can change the base color of the island. Would live to downplay the orange ness of the cabinets also. Included a pic of the floor tile also. HELP!!

A: Definitely use a color consultant or trial paints. If you paint the walls a cool color or stark white, it will make the contrast with the cabinets even worse so I would get an off-white with just a bit of warmth to it. Believe it or not, that can reduce the appearance of the "orangeness" of the cabinets. I know it sounds counterintuitive. However if this was my kitchen, the cabinets would be the first thing to be painted. If you can find a good painter who can paint cabinetry (that needs to be one of their specialties) I would do that first. I would replace the pendants with another style that provides more light. I like the clear glass ones in one of your inspiration photos. If something looks "off" as you go most likely it is the color combo. You need to work with colors that are not opposites on the colors wheel, you need adjacent colors. otherwise it is just jarring. Countertops, cabinets, backsplash, flooring, paint, and lighting are all very important and have to work together.

**Q: POLL: How would you perk up the bathroom?** *(in Polls)*

What quick changes would you do to perk up your bathroom?

Vote for your choice below! To win a pair of Houzz slippers, post a comment telling us what you love most about your bathroom (photos welcomed too) and you will automatically be entered into the drawing.

\*One entry per person, per drawing. Entries must be posted before 12:00am Pacific Time 3/16/2014. One winner will be drawn at random.

A: to the people suggesting chandeliers over the tub, it must meet code. unless something has changed, it needs to hang 80" from the top of the tub.

**Q: Door handles. Which do you prefer?** *(in Polls)*

Do you prefer the doorknob or the door handle?

Vote for your choice and share photos of the types of door handles you have in your home!

A: handles for sure, especially on doors. My hands are such a mess that it is painful to try to open a sticky door that doesn't have a lever.
