We had bought a newly constructed townhouse with a completely unfinished yard. Actually, unfinished would have been better. It was troubled with an outsized retaining wall built of concrete pavers and planted only with two struggling, sad shrubs. It had just two things going for it: the beautiful willow tree overhanging from next door and the potential for it to be reimagined a a very private space, tucked behind our townhouse in the rear of a lot of infill development in urban Seattle.
