**★★★★★ — HU-361436256, May 2024**

> Debbi is amazing, and is so clear and generous with her knowledge, from the initial discussion of your basic idea, through the planning stage, and all the way to project completion. I never felt like I was out of the loop--even though I had to be out of the country for part of the project. I can't recommend Urban Oasis highly enough.

**★★★★★ — Alev Brown, Aug. 2023**

> We worked with Debbie on our landscaping project, in Highland Park. She designed a beautiful native garden plan, involving a multi-level terraced land on a hill and transformed our concrete dominant outdoor space into a lush paradise filled with layers of biodiversity.
>
> She is innovative and creative, thoughtful and budget conscious, and very skilled and knowledgeable. The sophisticated end product included a stunning wood deck, a flagstone pavement, a water feature, an intricate irrigation system, light installation, a rain garden, and an array of native plants.
>
> Working with her was such a joyful experience. We shared what we envisioned with our budget in mind. She studied the space, visiting it multiple times. Then taking our budget into consideration, she proposed three different design options. She communicated the different components of the design plans clearly with us, answered all our questions and concerns during this period. The level of professionalism and the ease of communication at the same time made this entire process flow very smooth.
>
> Once we decided on the design and signed the contract, her team started working on the project within two weeks. They were extremely reliable, professional and skillful. While the team was working on the yard, Debbie was frequently visiting the site to check on the progress. We didn’t need to worry about anything because she literally was on top of everything. Due to the complexity of the land, occasionally a challenge emerged. Debbie and her team discussed the problem each time and found a logical solution very quickly.
>
> We only have wonderful things to say about our experience with Debbie. She was the perfect designer for us and upgraded our land to its highest potential. She has given us the oasis we envisioned all along!

**★★★★★ — Megan S., July 2023**

> When my husband and I began looking for a landscaper, Debbie stood out to us right away. She was extremely knowledgeable, clearly an expert in her craft, and was not trying to sell or oversell us on anything. We also loved her experience with building diverse and native gardens that required low water and maintenance - this was very important to us long term. Throughout the process, she listened to what we wanted and how we hoped to build the space and it clearly showed in design plans and execution. She also worked diligently to find cost-effective alternatives (when needed) without sacrificing the overall vision. In our case, our backyard started as a blank slate (i.e. a bare concrete lot) and Debbie was able to transform it into a native landscape that is functional, visually stunning, and eco-friendly. Working with Debbie was definitely a win for us and we would highly recommend her services.

**★★★★★ — gkpm, June 2023**

> Debbie designed our front and back yards into official natural habitats with native plants. I’ve literally had neighbors walk by and ask me for my landscape designer’s number and also thank me for beautifying the neighborhood! She found an amazing bench and gate and natural stone fountain and made the garden into a healing space. She really understands what thrives in our climate and makes you think about the whole ecosystem of the garden—from the soil and the creatures and organisms living in it to the pollinators and birds visiting also.

**★★★★★ — luft, Feb. 2022**

> Debbie did an amazing job on our yard. We love the final product. Easy to work with and gives a lot of useful advice for long term maintenance. Good communication. Would use her again (if I had another yard to landscape lol).

**★★★★★ — Charlie Gray, Jan. 2022**

> Debbie was such a pleasure to work with, and she provided us so much invaluable guidance and expertise through the entirety of our background renovation project. We came across Debbie and Urban Oasis just through organic online searching and were very impressed with her portfolio of prior work and very positive reviews. We could not have been more impressed and pleased with Debbie and the outcome of our project. Our backyard is totally transformed and was done within our initially discussed budget.

**Comment from Urban Oasis Landscape Design:**

> Thank you Charlie. I so enjoyed bringing the unrealized potential of your garden to fruition! You and Michelle were exceptionally gracious clients to work for.

**★★★★★ — simarosenthal, Dec. 2021**

> Debbie did a phenomenal job designing our front and back yards. She listened carefully to our needs and wants, and produced the most beautiful, sustainable designs. She has a great eye and very creative ideas. She was very involved throughout the installation and came to check on the workers daily (who did a great job as well!). I loved the fact that Debbie kept us informed throughout and made every effort to work within our budget. Overall a great experience and the results speak volumes.

**★★★★★ — Shafali Patel, Nov. 2019**

> I love Debbie's process. It's very clear, structured, and I value nurturing a sustainable and healthy garden. Working with her has been a very positive experience. I also love her design aesthetic and options she provides. I highly recommend transforming your space with her help.

**Comment from Urban Oasis Landscape Design:**

> Thanks for giving me the opportunity to create a unique and sustainable garden plan. It was a great project to work on!

**★★★★★ — Ellen Sugerman, Nov. 2019**

> Debbie was great to work with. She created a beautiful plan based on what we wished for and was really attentive throughout the process of conceptualizing and implementing our vision. She knows her stuff and cares deeply about creating a beautiful setting that enhances our home! We highly recommend Debbie for her expertise and talent!

**Comment from Urban Oasis Landscape Design:**

> Thanks Ellen. I really enjoyed working with you both and getting the opportunity to bring nature into your outdoor spaces using sustainable gardening practices. I love that you were open to creating a rain garden and using climate appropriate plant materials.

**★★★★★ — Eryn Brown, Dec. 2018**

> Debbie designed and managed a beautiful backyard reno for us, combining Spanish and modern styles in our hardscape features to make a gracious space for relaxation, and choosing really beautiful plants as well! She has great taste and keeps costs in mind. Our project was a challenging job in many ways: the site had some existing features that required careful planning and workarounds, and we faced some hiccups in the building process as well. Debbie maintained her calm though it all and was a great problem solver.

**Comment from Urban Oasis Landscape Design:**

> Thank you for your kind review Eryn. It was a blast working on your project - challenges and all! I know you and the family will have an amazing space to enjoy for years to come.

**★★★★★ — Rob Beckon, Aug. 2018**

> We found Debbie on Houzz and we are really happy with the results, especially the hardscaping. She, along with the help of her contractor, Ivan of Pajaros Landscaping, really transformed our front and back yard into something beautiful.
>
> We liked Debbie right away when we met with her as she asked us questions and listened to what we wanted. Her biggest strengths are that she has a fantastic sense of design and materials. She also provided fresh ideas like creating the decorative privacy wall for our back porch and pergola. Debbie provided many design options and let us pick and choose, and tweak the final design. She also gave us options to not have to do everything at once. She picked out the basic materials but always gave us many options to choose from. Debbie’s contractor, Ivan and team, do quality work and we feel like they’ve really added value to our home. The front and back yard landscaping makes us feel like we've really have created a sanctuary for us and our guests. We highly recommend them!

**Comment from Urban Oasis Landscape Design:**

> Thank you Rob for your lovely review. I can honestly say that I enjoyed working with you both on your project from start to finish!

**★★★★ — jraff418, Oct. 2017**

> Debbie was very easy to work with, listened to my initial ideas, and translated them into an overall plan for my backyard. She brought in very responsible workmen to complete the project.

**Comment from Urban Oasis Landscape Design:**

> Thank you Joan. Your project was a really fun one and I loved the collaborative process we had and the creativity that resulted.

- [Going Native in Bel Air](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/going-native-in-bel-air-pj-vj~6920310)
  - Location: Los Angeles, CA
  - Photos: 43
  - Description: Nestled in the hills of Bel Air under the gaze of the Getty Museum, this avant-garde house was lacking in functional outdoor spaces. The stylish renovation had added angles and peaked roof lines. We wanted the landscape design to reflect these aesthetic choices. At the entrance, you’re greeted by an eye-catching street address sign that we constructed from Ipe wood. It’s a beacon that welcomes visitors and – more importantly - signals to fire fighters to come help here! The level area of the bac…
- [Chic Urban Farm with Waterfall](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/chic-urban-farm-with-waterfall-pj-vj~833941)
  - Location: Los Angeles, CA
  - Photos: 34
  - Description: Although my client was an avid gardener, his backyard was neglected and unused. The top layer still sported a black top from his children’s basketball days and the concrete block retaining walls were forlorn. I wanted to take advantage of the existing topography to create a dining “room” destination at the back of the yard. An attractive wood pergola and fence and gorgeous stone walls make you feel like you are in the south of France. Five enormous CorTen vegetable beds house a cornucopia of veg…
- [Mid Century Modern Gem](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/mid-century-modern-gem-pj-vj~6908491)
  - Location: Los Angeles, CA
  - Photos: 23
  - Description: This vintage Palmer & Krisel home cried out to be restored it to its vintage charm. In addition to the landscaping, we were asked to work on the exterior aesthetics of the house. We began by removing the patchwork of “updates” that left a confusing pastiche. At the front of the house, we removed a late addition window and veneer stonework. Starting over now with a clean slate, we chose a color palette of rich charcoal and warm coral-orange. Over the new smooth stucco finish, we built two custom…
- [Creating Space in Glassell Park](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/creating-space-in-glassell-park-pj-vj~6965576)
  - Location: Los Angeles, CA
  - Photos: 25
  - Description: This newly built house had incredible views, but the developer hadn’t provided any outdoor spaces from which to enjoy them. A couple of narrow and uneven strips of grass were the only usable garden areas on this hillside home We started by levelling the top area into two terraced lawns of low water Kurapia and more than doubling the space on the lower level with retaining walls. The CorTen retaining wall is a beautiful foil to the rustic stairs and wood and cable rail. We built a striking new pe…

  - Location: Santa Monica, CA
  - Photos: 15
  - Description: The classic Spanish architecture of the house needed a memorable courtyard to welcome visitors and an extra dose of curb appeal. We designed an exquisite wrought iron front gate as the first point of entry with a Moorish star fountain just beyond that beckons you to enter. A creamy white sandstone creates an ethereal floor with a subtle but striking border detail around the fountain. Original Malibu-style tile was designed specifically for the fountain and custom colors complete this elegant and…
- [Topanga Canyon Hideaway](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/topanga-canyon-hideaway-pj-vj~5708314)
  - Location: Los Angeles, CA
  - Photos: 23
  - Description: My clients wanted a beautiful and chic outdoor space where they could relax and play and take advantage of their beautiful canyon views. We needed to address the tired and outdated landscape and renovate the pool and impractical jacuzzi. They also had drainage issues that left parts of their yard soggy all year round. We paved the pool deck with stylish Stepstone pavers and delineated the fire bowl with a sweeping curve of color. Sitting at the fire bowl provides a birds’ eye view of the amazing…

  - Location: Santa Monica, CA
  - Photos: 17
  - Description: My clients landscaping just wasn’t working for them when they came to me for help. We created a joyous garden filled with ‘wabi sabi’ charm and filled with one-of-a-kind pieces. We removed the grass and existing nonfunctional path and deck and replaced them with permeable stone paving with enough space to create a large seating area in the front yard. Bulky stone columns were pared down to simplify the look of the facade. A stucco pony wall with a quartzite cap and hand-hewn gate around the yard…
- [Sophisticated Mid-City Residence](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/sophisticated-mid-city-residence-pj-vj~4261090)
  - Location: Los Angeles, CA
  - Photos: 19
  - Description: My clients had recently purchased their newly refurbished home in a quaint Mid-City neighborhood and wanted to make their outdoor spaces reflect their stylish interiors while, at the same time, lowering their carbon footprint. I chose a crisp and sophisticated black, white, and gray color palette with a formal symmetrical design for the front to compliment the classic house. The slope was flattened, and a low stucco retaining wall built to create a level pathway to the front door. A new, dramati…
- [Hilltop Modern](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/hilltop-modern-pj-vj~523500)
  - Location: Los Angeles, CA
  - Photos: 53
  - Description: This gorgeous garden was once the poster child for deferred maintenance. A wooden fence was falling apart and blocking the extraordinary views. The paving was cracked and dated. I designed a fence that would showcase the scenery as well as provide safety and security. The sleek bluestone paving and poured in place coping are sleek and contemporary and visually extend the space to maximize square footage. The design took it's cue from the house which had big picture windows and modern lines. The…
- [Natural Stone Garden](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/natural-stone-garden-pj-vj~103848)
  - Location: Los Angeles, CA
  - Photos: 31
  - Description: We've created a practical and beautiful place with a variety of options for people to enjoy and utilize the space - a place to entertain, relax and de-stress. The original pool was the dominating feature in the yard and was installed at an awkward 45% angle. The existing concrete paving was pervasive and the raised planter beds followed the angular lines of the pool. We replaced the sad, worn out pavement with luxurious, rich red flagstone that added color and warmth to the garden. A drab pool i…
- [Waterwise Mediterranean](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/waterwise-mediterranean-pj-vj~130220)
  - Location: Los Angeles, CA
  - Photos: 19
  - Description: The clients wanted to get rid of their thirsty and not-so attractive lawn. The finished garden is a delight to behold. Flagstone paths meander from the sidewalk and driveway and lead to a small patio with a beautiful aqua fountain urn. The backyard was dominated by a pool and jacuzzi that they no longer used. Now a fountain burbles next to a circular patio. The plant beds are filled with decorative plants mixed in with edible fruit and vegetables. The garden has been transformed into a peaceful…
- [Staycation Hangout](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/staycation-hangout-pj-vj~5782938)
  - Location: Los Angeles, CA
  - Photos: 24
  - Description: Two adjoining lots created the ultimate party yard while preserving their legal status. The original lot had a large, Spanish style house while the new lot had a small mid-century bungalow. The design challenge was to meld the styles while keeping true to each house. The original pool was in sorry shape and hemmed in by an unusable and dilapidated garage. My solution was to replace the garage with a legal carport that could be utilized as a pool cabana. The new capacious outdoor room has plenty…
- [Vibrant Mediterranean Front Yard](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/vibrant-mediterranean-front-yard-pj-vj~567162)
  - Location: Culver City, CA
  - Photos: 27
  - Description: The front yard of this classic Spanish Colonial Home badly needed an update. Taking my cue from the architecture of their house, I endeavored to create the feel of a classic Mediterranean courtyard. I used a diminutive classic Moorish/Mediterranean quatrefoil planter as the anchor to the space with a grid of of pre-cast concrete pavers radiating outward. Dymondia margaretae fills the spaces between the pavers. I put a very informal low hedge of Teucrium chamaedrys at the outer edges and anchored…
- [Entertainers' Paradise](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/entertainers-paradise-pj-vj~2858574)
  - Location: Manhattan Beach, CA
  - Photos: 38
  - Description: The owners of this property in swanky Manhattan Beach had outgrown the old pool in their backyard. Their children were grown and the pool ate up most of their back yard leaving them with a space that didn’t function well for their needs. What they really wanted was somewhere to host their large circle of family and friends. I created a space with multiple “rooms” for relaxing and entertaining. The central pergola is a place to dine and keep warm. A heater over the dining table keeps diners toast…
- [Spectacular Canyon View Terrace](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/spectacular-canyon-view-terrace-pj-vj~4122631)
  - Location: Los Angeles, CA
  - Photos: 28
  - Description: Although the view was spectacular, the forlorn concrete patio didn't do it justice. The clients, a busy doctor and nurse, needed a place to relax, entertain and wash away the day’s stress. We created 2 levels of patios, an upper paved patio off the house and a lower deck below in the canyon. The capacious deck features a Jacuzzi with a custom-built pergola, a dining area, and a custom bench and fire pit. Breaking up the expanse of Bluestone paving are raised planter beds which create intimate ar…

  - Location: Los Angeles, CA
  - Photos: 12
  - Description: This charming Spanish Colonial Revival home located in an Historic Overlay Zone was a gem but its garden was neglected and forlorn. The front entrance was off to the side and, lacking a path to it, unwelcoming. We moved the entrance to face the front and constructed a curving brick path to it surrounded by a sea of coral roses. The depressing side yard was turned into a verdant tropical oasis and the back a delightful spot to relax replete with the gentle burbling of a fountain. Even the unused…
